I recently read a review on Silicon Solutions and realized I had been doing business with Bill Carter and Silicon Solutions for more than a Decade and had failed to write a review. I'm going to fix this now! Bill Carter and his staff are tops. You will not find a more reliable group of Computer Techs in Columbia. Bill is as honest as they come. Some of my Silicon Experiences: 1. I was in the shop some time ago and the staff was relaying to the computer owner that they had been able to recover her data and her laptop was good as new. I thought the woman was going to cry. 2. I called Bill looking for a larger Hard Drive. Not only did he stock the drive I needed, he gave me a better price than the big box store. 3. I'm a Mac guy but my wife need a PC Laptop for her Real Estate business. (2008 ish) Bill gave us a great deal on a used Laptop loaded with OS and Office. It was still running 4 years later when we donated it to Goodwill. 4. I had a piece of Memory go bad in my laptop. Bill identified what I needed. Again, he had it in stock and at a great price. 5. I was doing a Trade Show at the local VA. One of the reps there downloaded a fairly nasty virus. I sent her down to Bill's to see what could be done. Great computer shop/store. Took my desktop computer here after the lighting storm last week. Lighting strike took out our HDTV and our blueray, and I thought it took out our desktop computer! Silicon Solutions looked at it over the weekend and called back saying it's working great. They easily could have charged me for replacing the motherboard, or worse, a used or new computer (and sold mine to someone else). The technician that called said to write the check for $29, which is thier base charge to look at it. When I picked it up today, they only charged me $20 total, and they obviously had cleaned it. When I went to pay they pulled it apart and cleaned it again! They are obviously honest and that's very appreciated today. I brought a notebook computer in for replacement of a defective DC jack. They returned it with the internal speakers disconnected, the battery life cut from 8 to less than 1-1/2 hours, the screen covered with greasy fingerprints, and the casing scratched and soiled. This, after they'd had my machine for 11 days! I've never seen such careless, disorganized service (they don't even have a work order control system), or rude employees. They also had the audacity to refuse to reconnect the speakers, claiming they had already done so before they returned the computer. Oh? Then how come headphones, the jack for which plugs directly into the motherboard, work just fine? This place is the IT equivalent of an automotive chop shop. I don't know how they stay in business, except perhaps because they're very good liars! read more
