Solid Food - lovely interior…read more This is a nice - recently renovated - place when you are in Einsiedeln. It's located just across the famous Abbey and is a good choice to grab some coffee or food. Especially now in winter when you need a warm place. The restaurant has two levels, downstairs a bit less formal, more like a coffee shop. And also a bakery. The menu has some interesting items and also a daily menu. It was pretty cold the day we visited and were happy to get a nice table right in front (a couch!). Great to watch the world go by. Service was friendly and helpful. Food-wise it was solid. Nothing outstanding, but not bad at all. We ordered a "Gersten"-soup (with sausage) and the roast with mash and veggies. Soup was hot and pretty filling. Roast was fine, mash pretty good. But the veggies pretty boring and bland. The bakery had some interesting items. Good stuff to take out and enjoy later at home. So, food-wise an average place. But with the lovely interior and nice seats / couches / tables it deserves the four stars.

Didn't think I could finish that much chicken, but polished it off cleanly and even used the bread to sop up the remaining sauce. Delicious! The service was outstanding! Very accommodating, and they even brought out their housemade grappa to finish off our meal. I will definitely go here again the next time I'm in Einsiedeln.

Any place that can keep up with the crowds during a Fasnacht parade is OK by me…read more The Lahmacun had clearly been frozen, and the meat was fairly tasteless, but the veggies were fresh and sauce generous. There's actually a fair amount of seating, and windows --- not a bad place to sit and relax for a while.
