We didn't realize we could enter the restaurant from Schipfe Street so we wound our way toward it through the narrow riverside docks. This circutions route turned out to be totally unnecessary, but we felt like triumphant adventurers when we finally arrived and were seated at a table :-) Once seated we were delighted by the attentive, helpful servers and we very much enjoyed some splendid refreshments as we sat at our table overlooked the water, which lapped just a few feet below us. The people walking by on the opposite shore added to the idlyic restaurant scene, which was optimized by the exceptional food and welcoming ambiance. Highly recommended!

There's a larger outside dining area if the weather is warmer. The service was very friendly- the waiter did speak English, but not fluently. It wasn't a problem, just took some rephrasing to get the info we were asking about. They do have English language menus, so ordering was easy for us (I did have one semester of German, but that was more than 40 years ago so it did us no good). The menu consists of 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, and a few desserts. There's also a healthy wine & beer list. While the choices are somewhat limited, everything we tried was perfectly cooked & seasoned. I started with the Vegetarian ravioli; wonderful cream sauce! I had a local Amboss blonde lager, and my wife had a glass of Pinot Noir Rosé, also local (I didn't get the vintner) and both were excellent. I had the beer-battered Perch, and my wife had the Thai red curry. Both were magnificent - the Thai curry was full of flavor but not at all "hot" like in USA. For dessert, I had a light-as-air coffee mousse, served on vanilla ice cream with pitted cherries. Delicious! My wife had the Vegan chocolate ice cream, which is packaged- but excellent. The coffee and espresso with dessert topped off the meal wonderfully. Cost is moderate; even with wine, beer, appetizer, and dessert only about CHF 120 (about USD 144 right now). I've paid far more for much worse food and service. Schipfe 16 is a gem; well worth a visit.

When I arrived, the staff was really friendly and accommodating to my English-only speech skills and even gave me an English menu. They had a special daily menu that included a veal roast... with a guy wheeling a cart around that served up the veal roast with mushroom sauce, carrots, and polenta. The decor was really nice and the food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. I ordered the veggie salad, thinking it was a garden salad, but it was actually a yummy antipasto of cooked veggies, including pumpkin, artichokes, and slices of Parmesan cheese. To try something new, I got the pumpkin strudel as my main dish. It came in a lovely flaky pastry filled with ricotta cheese, and you could really taste the amaretto in the sauce. My friend got the meatballs with rosemary gravy and leek mashed potatoes. I tried one of the meatballs, and it was tender and juicy. Prices are typical for Zürich. Dinner for two, including starters, main dishes, shared bottle of water, and 4 glasses of red wine (French Syrah Cuvée 2008, Château Haut-Blanville, Côteaux du Languedoc) came out to CHF 125.

One of the most amazing Vegetarian (let alone Vegan) meals I've ever had. Did the "gourmet"…read more(tasting) menu which consisted of an amuse bouche, three savory and one sweet dish. The amuse bouche I'm not exactly sure what it was... it involved some red quinoa and a semi-sweet sauce, along with possibly some diced root veggies. Next followed the lambs lettuce salad with chestnuts, orange fillets and some sort of crustini. From there it was a celery soup poured over diced saffron apples. The combination of flavors was amazing and the soup was deliciously thick. Following the soup was a pumpkin "quiche" which was thankfully on the smaller side but quite rich, creamy and enclosed in such a wonderful pastry. A sprig of oregano stood out of it and complimented the autumn dish. The last savory dish was a house made spinach "root" ravioli. It was three giant ones - the pasta simply perfect and some microgreens to go along. There was optional white truffle which of course I had them put on. Happened in front of my eyes, done to taste, with a scale gauging how excessively you were going :) The dessert, a chocolate cream with some (I think) poached fruit on top was fantastic. My only regret is that I was too full to put much of a dent in it! I did the tasting with the wine pairings which worked out perfectly. Each perfectly tied to and complimenting the dish. The wine is good and they really give advice. Friendly staff but they could do an effort with people who don't understand CH-german. We ate crispy pork belly, sashimi, spinach ravioli, rosemary potatoes, steamed broccoli--a plethora of dishes that I can't even remember. We were surprised by the youthful, relaxed service we received. There is only one menu on offer. Seven (it's actually more like thirteen!) courses cost you CHF 220.-. All courses were very modern, showing incredible precision and perfect preparation of all ingredients. The desserts were very good. You've got to ask for more desserts, since their menu only has one dessert. If you ask, then the menu suddenly has three desserts. Chef de cuisine Marcus Lindner isn't just a culinary artists, but a lover of good desserts. He bombards you with friandises after the meal, including home-made macarons (filled with a Felchlin Grand Cru ganache, yummy!), marshmallows, chestnut gugelhopf, vanilla caramels and much more. Service It was pretty early when we stepped in, so they informed us how much time we had to eat before reservations set in, which was great and efficient, and also no problem at all. The staff was very friendly and checked up often on our meals. Food We ordered the pumpkin soup and smoked duck breast with deer liver salad to start. The whole meal was bursting with flavor complexities that i couldn't really place or imagine. The pumpkin soup was creamy, savory, spiced perfectly and not overly salty. The smoked duck was also not overly salty, and you could taste the smokiness of the duck, while the skin of the breast wasn't chewy. The deer liver was seared, leaving the insides relatively raw. I had never had this, so i had to try it. If you like liver, you'll love this meal. The salad and portwine cranberries really balanced out the meat, mellowing out the overall meal. I had the boar, which was seared and very slightly overcooked for my personal taste, but it didn't stop me from clearing out the whole plate. I would have licked it, if it were considered acceptable. Mine came with brussel sprouts puree, and spätzli. The textures and flavors were so balanced and delicious, i wish there was a restaurant similar to this back home. My friend ordered the deer filet medallions with red cabbage and i felt that the meat was perfectly cooked - not dry and tough (not saying the boar was dry or tough at all, it was just slightly cooked more than my usual preferences). The veggies on both meals were wonderful. The brussel sprouts melted in your mouth and didn't taste hard or crunchy. The red cabbage was soft, with lots of crunch and texture in the middle. I'm honestly not sure what the red fruit was on the side, but it might have been the gin plums from the menu from other meals, but man were they boozy and fantastic. I would have eaten all of both meals if i wasn't on vacation and i knew i was going straight home to stew in my food coma. Lastly, i ordered two cheeses, which the server (maybe owner? I wish i had clarified) asked if i had space in my body for it and I'll be damned if i didn't try all the cheeses available. He asked if i liked cow, sheep, or goat, in which i said surprise me and he gave me a cow and sheep one. The cow I've reminded me of triple cream cheeses -soft in the middle and a little creamier on the outside. The flavor and textures were both apparent, but not overwhelming. I wish i had asked for the names of the cheeses i tried, but i wouldn't have been able to "hear them" without writing them down. The other was a sheep cheese, which was very pungent and very creamy and i loved. This was all paired with grapes, pear, and dried figs - a perfect blend of all flavors. Overall, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this restaurant and if you want to try flavorful foods and a wonderful atmosphere with excellent service, try this restaurant. It's really delightful.
