I decided to fully rely on fellow yelpers for a cab in Charleston this past weekend. Deciding on Signature Ride based on the great reviews, we called Ms. Lorraine to see if she could pick up 7 girls within a few short hours. She agreed and arrived in the monsoon like weather. She picked us up on Daniel Island and headed for Market Street. She kept up the conversation and had everyone laughing from the moment we got in the car. She even gave us an impromptu tour around the battery and told us some of the best stories we've ever heard about the great town of Charleston. I was hoping that she would mention this recipe book that I read about in other reviews and she did not disappoint. Almost on cue, she handed each of us her famous recipes. And when we started to get a little rowdy she even offered to get a "switch" after us. Anyone from the south knows how serious it is to be warned with switch. Ms. Lorraine was great! Thanks to yelp, we stumbled upon a sweetheart taxi driver named Lorraine. She's a one-woman show and a great business woman at that. If you could picture an older southern mom driving a cab (she calls it a limousine because of her exclusive license), feeding me metaphorical biscuits, that accurately described Lorraine. I was visiting my buddy in Goose Creek, and we called Lorraine to go downtown. Not only did she show up in 15 minutes, but also greeted us with genuine southern hospitality and a great ride downtown. Like I mentioned she runs her own company and is the only driver so there is no bullshit. When she picked us up again at the end of the night she shared all her favorite recipes with me, and gave me a printout of her personal bests. Wow. With my normal taxi service booked, I called Lorraine with 4 hours notice and she agreed to take me from JI to the airport. Very pleasant individual. It's always a pleasure to meet people in life that truly have a passion for what they do. Very professional - she called me and let me know she would be ten minutes early in my drive, and not to feel rushed. As for payment, she's able to take credit card. I would say her fare to the airport is reasonable, not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. She uses a late model Dodge minivan that's adequate for several individuals and their luggage. Exceptional service! I called at the last minute around 10 pm for a cab to the airport at 5:15. She arrived on time and even called me to say she was around the corner. I am new to the Charleston area (originally from Chicago) so it was nice to have a driver that wasn't on their phone or blasting music! I would recommend anyone in need of a cab to call, especially if your need of a ride to or from CHS. She is the only employee and the only driver so calling ahead (day before) might be the best idea, but regardless the service is great! read more

Lorraine with Signature Ride was a real life saver for me. I was stranded in Charleston, SC and very shaken up. I was at a location that was difficult for her to find, because I wasn't very clear. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I wasn't happy with the service last week. I had reached out via text where I specifically requested to have lowest fare, especially if I could share with other riders. She texted back and asked how many riders and quoted me 35.00 since I was one rider. While I thought that was high, I said OK. Once I landed, she mentioned that others were waiting for me, she called me 3 times from when my plane landed so I felt rushed. When I arrived there were 5 or so other riders and no room for my luggage, so I had to put my roller bag squished between driver and myself in the front seat. This is all fine by me, BTW but once I was driven to my location (about 5 minutes past the hotel where the group was dropped off), she still charged me 35.00 and said "your ride has nothing to do with the other people in the car." Not cool. They all paid 10.00 each. Gladly took uber back at 25.00 flat fee, by myself. read more
