The Children's Assessment Center is a nonprofit that works with therapists and law enforcement to…read moresupport child victims of sexual abuse. It is a safe space that allows these children to just be kids without fear for once. I was the coordinator for a service group that worked with the CAC this school year. We were not able to visit the CAC during the week as you have to be at least 18 and go through rigorous training to volunteer with the children. Instead, we sorted donations, made activity books, ran a donation drive, cleaned the playroom, etc. The CAC also came to our school to talk about awareness of sexual abuse and Internet safety. The counselors are available for talks with children, adults, and for professional development with other social workers and counselors. Obviously this is wonderful organization that helps Houstonians and gives children a voice, but I was emotionally drained working with the CAC. As a mother, I would get nauseous or furious when learning more about some of the things the counselors had to deal with and the lies and manipulation abusers use. I couldn't help but place my own children in the shoes of these innocents that just want to be kids. Just scrubbing down a highchair in the kitchen would make my stomach turn and my mind rage, "a baby? really? some people are so sick!" It was very emotionally challenging for me to volunteer here and I didn't even interact with the kids. If you know you are or know someone who is a victim of sexual abuse, speak up for yourself and those that will come after you! Volunteer, donate, or support the CAC until we have enough education and awareness to put it out of business.

I'm a little late writing this review but I feel as a parent this is my responsibility to share my…read moreexperience with other new parents that have to make the decision to place their child in daycare. My review and experience is based on the infant room only. I had multiple bad experiences in the infant room with two of the caregivers in particular. I gave instructions on how to feed my 4 month old baby at that time that was not followed. Also on one occasion my baby had a blow out and her soiled clothes was placed in her bottle cooler without being placed in a separate plastic bag. I still gave the daycare a chance because I realize no daycare is perfect. The last straw is when I was picking up my baby and she was isolated from the other infants and caregivers on the opposite side of the room. I was extremely upset. I asked the caregivers how come she was isolated and I was told because her bouncer was there, which makes no sense considering the bouncer was not nailed to the ground. I spoke to the owner the next morning and she appeared to be very attentive and receptive to my concerns. The caregivers had already spoke to her prior to the next morning, which is most likely because they knew I was going to report them. They told the owner the reason my daughter was in the corner away from everyone is because they didn't want the other babies (that are the same age as her) to hurt her and I get mad. This was absurd because I never said anything about my baby being hurt by other babies in the "infant" room. This was very unacceptable and was a form of child neglect. The supervisor said she would talk to the caregivers. That same week there was no change in their behavior, they never spoke when I picked up my baby, they would just hand me my baby and say nothing for the most. They wouldn't verbally tell me how my daughters day was even after the discussion I had with the owner. Never once did the owner try to rectify the situation by giving me a update or a corrective action plan, which let me know she didn't really care as well. I sent the owner a email explaining why I was removing my daughter from the daycare and I never received a response.I removed my baby from Happy Times within a week of this occurrence. My baby now goes to Principrin and she is so loved and taken care of, and I don't have worry in the world when I drop her off. This was my experience with Happy Times Academy, it was a horrible experience. No parent wants to feel an uneasy feeling when they trust caregivers to care for their children. And I realize that perhaps every caregiver may not care personally for a parent but a professional demeanor should always be maintained, especially when taking care of children.

My daughter has been attending HTA since 08/2018. She started when she was 6 months old. Overall,…read moreour experience has been a pleasant one. However, after there was a change in ownership, HTA has improved so much! From the remodeling of the rooms and cleanliness to the live updates on the app and improved monthly newsletters. I love all of the improvements that have been made. Before the new management, I did not like the unpleasant smell that the daycare sometimes had. Now, the daycare always smells and feels very clean. Although I never had a problem with the previous owner/management, I can see that the new management is more caring about the children and about parents concerns. The teachers have all been awesome. My daughter is happy to go to daycare everyday and that gives me a sense of security and tranquility. She is 20 months now and she has been knowing most children lullabies/songs, how to count to 6 in Spanish and English (she gets a little mixed up from 6-10), can sing the ABC's, says please & thank you, just to name a few things. We practice most of these things at home but being that she's at daycare most of the day, I have to thank her teachers for that. This month will be the first month that there will be holiday events/festivals since the previous ownership and we are super excited to see what everything is going to be like.

She very brashly stated "we don't have any appointments left." I asked what do I need to do to get an appointment. She huffed, and said brashly again, "we're first come first serve." I said ok, and asked when should I call back to be early and get an appointment. She told me to call Monday morning at 9am. I asked her if there where any other resources I could access due to my situation. She told me she was not sure and to to call "211." I explained that I had done so and was referred to WCC. She told me again to call back next week. Fast forward to to yesterday Monday 8/7. I called at 8:45am and left a message explaining my situation. I felt like something wasn't right so I continued to call back to try and set an appointment. No answer. Tried to set an appointment online, not possible. So I left another message just after 9am. At about 1:30 that afternoon I received a call back from the same woman I had spoke to earlier. Same response and demeanor. "We don't have any appointments left." I asked why I was not called or did not receive an appointment? She stated agin rudely "it's a first come first serve sir." I told her I left two messages. One even before they had opened. She then changed her story and told me that "the phones open to receive appointments at 8am." I told her that is not what she told me last week. She began to argue with me so I told her that she was being extremely rude and disrespectful to me and I didn't appreciate it. I obviously then asked to speak to a manager and that maybe she could help me in my dire straits situation. She didn't offer me any information or other ways to make sure I am applying in a timely manner. She simply told me I would be transferred. Of course, the manager did not answer her phone. I left a detailed message explaining my situation. It is now Tuesday at 5:30 pm and I still have not received a call back. I'm starting to believe this place if corrupt. I've done youth outreach services with my local church, fed the homeless, and annually visit retirement communities all in hopes of helping people without them having to ask. It's very humbling to have to do so. I've recently dealt with Innerfaith Caring Ministries and St. Clair and they treated me with the upmost respect and went above and beyond to help me. They both ultimately helped me out after genuinely asking me about me situation so they could refer me to more assistance. The one time in my life I ask for help, they treat me like this? Absolutely disgraceful. I'm willing to bet I never get a call back or response to this at all. Really terrible.
