Had an emissions recall on my Golf back in January 2025 done by this dealership. Car with 100k and no issues. Then drove the car to Minnesota and back with 22mpg (usually 38) - with strong fuel smell. Pulled the rear seat, found the fuel tank cover cracked and the fuel return hose to the fuel pump was not reattached. The service manager denied all responsibility and wanted me to tow my car to the dealership at my expense. If you love your VW and want it taken care of by responsible people, go somewhere else. read more

Bought a 2025 VW Jetta SEL. Our salesman, Dan, was very knowledgeable about the Jetta. Not only that, he was genuinely nice. We got what we thought was a fair price for my wife's FIAT 500, plus an unsuspected discount on the Jetta. She originally wanted a Honda Civic, but XM Radio isn't available. Anyway, the car is loaded for less than $ 30 K. The shopping experience was a pleasure, not the beating you get at a suburban dealer. I wish I could give less than 1 star! I didn't buy my 2017 Tiguan at Sierra, but after I retired, it was closer than the dealer I did buy from. I had positive experiences with other Bill Walsh dealerships. This Summer, Sierra VW did $4000 worth of repair work. About a week ago, the check engine light came on and my wife made an appointment to have it checked. When she drove there, the light went off. She was told that since it went off, not to worry about it! (I'm sure it was because she was a woman with limited mechanical knowledge) This week, the check engine light came on again. I called the service manager, Matt McAlpine, and asked why the car wasn't checked or at least a code looked for in the computer? He told me that because the light went out, there would be no code. I explained that my understanding of the engine management system was that a code could be retrieved until it was cleared. He denied this and told me VW's were different! ( A LIE! ) He claimed it would take an hour of running a diagnostic program to get any code or cause. ( A ploy to rack up labor costs) Meanwhile, I told my wife to drive to an auto parts store and ask them for a code. Most auto parts stores do this for free! The code was P219E (P for pending, Matt! ) Primary DTC cylinder #3 air/fuel imbalance. Probably a misfire in that cylinder. It could be a variety of problems, all worth checking. Beware of any service department where the manager is IDIOT enough to lie about something so easily checked! Other warning signs: No loaners for big ticket repairs, no prompt call backs and conflicting stories from service writers and the service manager. It also took much longer than they told us for the $4000 repair... my wife had to rent a car for a week! AVOID this dealership! read more

This dealership service department is HORRIBLE!! Took my VW Golf diesel in for fuel issues. Under warranty mind you. No loaner and they had the car a MONTH!! No communication unless we called. They cannot even diagnose the issue. They just keep replacing parts. We did pay for a new water pump and serpentine belt and were quoted a price ....went to pick up the car and the total was more than 50% higher with again. O communication of the increase. They then couldn't even wash it. The car was covered in bird shit. I received an email from the general manager asking me to call him regarding my review of their service department...I replied that they have my number and to call when they are ready to discuss a partial refund of the over charge. Communication is awful. The worst. Don't bother leaving a message in their service department. They will NEVER call you back. My car was there over a month and I had ONE phone call from them even though I called several times for updates. Do your best to go elsewhere. Here's what's crazy - my family bought THREE vehicles from them in the past 18 months. THREE. Total cost around 115k. When things needed attention we naturally went to them for assistance. OMG. Buyer beware! We are life long Volkswagen customers. My wife and I flew from South Carolina to purchase a new 2022 Volkswagen mk8 GTI from Sierra Volkswagen. We paid over MSRP for this new car in March of 2022. Fast forward to January of 2023 we decided trade it in for a VW Golf R. During this process we were shocked to find out the new GTI had an accident on the carfax report dating back to December of 2021! This rear damage accident with another vehicle reported on the Carfax caused us to lose thousands of dollars on our trade. This accident was not disclosed to us. AVOID at all costs! They stole almost $1,000 from me, and sold me a car with a gas tank that leaks if you fill it up. I'd give them zero stars if I could. They over-collected on my purchase and have been very shady with excuses as to why they have not reimbursed me. I bought a used CX5 from them in July. I'm from Iowa, but have purchased cars out of state with no problems before. They collected the sales tax and licensing/registration fees which should have been sent to my local DMV. It took months to get the title, even though I bought the car outright. (lots of COVID-delay excuses, and then they said the original lender still had the title tied up for some reason). I was patient at that time, but when the title finally showed up, they hadn't sent the money they collected for the sales tax, license, and registration fees. Almost $1,000. And the amounts on the paperwork they sent me did not match the paperwork I signed on the day of the sale. My local DMV called them several times and got no response. I ended up paying for it all myself since my temp plate had been expired for over a month. At this point, I had been handed off to several different contacts at the dealership, but finally got a hold of a George Honiotes, who sounded nice and when I explained what was going on, he looked into it and said, "oh yeah, looks like we need to cut you a check for the difference". MONTHS have gone by since then, and I've contacted him 2 or 3 other times, once he said he needed the manager to ok it, but they were out for two weeks with COVID. Ever since that reply, I've had no response from them. I'm filing a report with the Better Business Bureau, and if that doesn't do it, I guess I'll have to get more aggressive. I was also trying to get them to look at the leaking gas tank, but I'm guessing since they can't even get me the money they wrongly took, I'll never get them to fix the car. First things first. I would never have expected a good sized dealership like this to be so shady. Not when it's a clear cut case of them taking my money and not using it for what it was intended. Years ago we had taken our car here for some minor maintenance. Unfortunately this got us into their database. Fast forward to last week. I was beginning the process of finding a Jeep Wrangler. On October 24th I filled out the online request for more information on several dealers' websites, including theirs. I did not enter a phone number, and entered just my name and info. The next day (Oct 25th) I received an email from them with some info and questions, which I responded to within a few minutes. In that reply I specifically asked them to use email only (even though I hadn't even given a phone number) to contact me. You see, ever since she was a little girl my wife had dreamed of having a red Jeep Wrangler. She's not a car person, but when she was small her uncle had a Jeep Wrangler that she thought was the coolest thing ever. So she dreamed of some day having one. It was never practical. However, due to our current circumstances, including her short commute, I got the idea of surprising her with a red Jeep Wrangler for our 20th wedding anniversary! I figured I'd do a ton of research the deal, then just come how with it one day as a surprise. You've all seen the commercials with the big red bow on top of the car, right? So, instead of that happening, and instead of emailing me back with information on the Jeep I was looking for, they somehow pulled up our info from the service department, figured out that my wife had the same address I'd entered in my sales request, and found her cell phone number. Then they started spamming her cell phone with calls and messages! You can imagine my surprise and disappointment when my wife asked me why I was requesting information on a Jeep! When I complained via email, the response I got was basically "we didn't know you wanted to be emailed" even though I'd left my phone number off my sales request (but put my email), and even though I'd responded to their email asking them to use email only! When I asked them not to bother anymore, they emailed me prices on a Jeep without the options I was looking for, and at a significantly higher price than I had gotten offered by a nearby dealer (for a vehicle that had a window sticker ~$1k less, they wanted almost $4k more for than the first offer from another dealer, the other dealer also offered me a vehicle that actually met my "required options" request). Now, on Oct 30th, they are still spamming my wife's cell phone....she literally sent me a text while I was typing this that she was just going to block their phone number. Meanwhile, our new Jeep is being delivered by tomorrow morning to a nearby dealership. They worked the entire deal via email, and haven't called me one time... read more

Had an 11 am appt to get warranty issue done on my VW. They said it would take 2 hrs. Dropped it off and returned at 1:20pm to pick up car. No work had been done... car hadn't moved from where I left it. Service said they had no idea why it hadn't been looked at yet. We don't live in Ottawa and they did they could get it in now... at 1:20 if we want to wait for it... another 2 hours.... Terrible service. read more

Service department is money hungry. I took my 3 year old car in to get the Bluetooth radio looked at because it would intermittently make a high pitched piercing sound. I specifically asked that they look at it, & talk to me before doing anything. I asked that they see if the fix would be covered under my warranty, & if not to please let me know with an estimate for the fix. The man in the service department assured me they would. He also said it would take about an hour. Almost 3 hours later he came out, said it was done, & handed me a bill. When I called him out, & said you were supposed to talk to me before doing anything he completely dismissed me, & said "well you signed the paper" & walked away. The women at check out heard the whole thing, & did not address the situation either she just said "what form of payment will you be using?" I will never do any form of business with them or any of the other Bill Walsh locations. read more

Went in to look at a 2010 Audi A5. They had the car I called and asked about the car. Was given that it was a well maintained car. When I went it to test drive car was very clean and nothing was out of the ordinary. Than went in to talk price for trade in and price of the car itself. Was offered 16k for my jeep. Previous dealership offered me 18,500 trade in. Figured they were low balling. Talked to them and they would not budge and kept sayin it's not worth more than 16k. So I went to go see if we could Negotiation the price of the Audi. Here's where I get blown away on the lack of knowledge of the vehicle the sales associate is trying to sell me. In the carfax he's is showing me it says it's had the turbo and engine replaced. I ask about it and he said he knew nothing about it! I was blown away how that detail is left out when talking about a car with a price of 17,500 asking Price. I than showed the sales associate a price of a the car same model less miles had the bigger v6 motor fully loaded as well and they wanted 2 grand less. I didn't expect them to drop price by 2 grand but they dropped 200 dollars and said that's all they can do. I left and said I would be in touch if anything changes. Looked online 2 weeks later they dropped the price 1500 dollars. What a joke read more

Beware of their service department. Went in for an oil change on my two year old vehicle. My vehicle went in without a flaw. Came out with a cracked windshield. 5" crack right where the oil change sticker was at. They denied any responsibility. Told me it was probably from the weather. From going from the cold outside into the warm shop. Its funny how the car is warmed up everyday to 70 degrees and from colder temperatures outside then it was that day and nothing happens. I since talked to the service manager with no help. I also emailed the owner and got no response. Good luck on rolling the dice if they damage your car while its in there. Because they will deny it and tell you you're liable. read more

My husband and I had been looking for our new jeep for quite some time. In face, he was tired of looking at them and had said so when we were on our way to Sierra Motor Mall. I had seen a Jeep I was interested in online and sent in an email to see if it was still available. We spent one day in the Northern Burbs and had a car sold out from under us and another dealer bottomed out their jeep trying to drive it over a curb and down a hill. Decided to check out the Southern burbs and see what we could find. After we stopped in Oak Lawn, then Crete, then New Lenox, and now were on our way to Ottawa, we get a call from Mark! We were only 5 minutes away :) When we got there we were happy to finally have someone show us a great vehicle without trying to scam us. Mark was very friendly and knowledgeable about the vehicle we were looking at and really made us feel like he was doing everything he could to give us a pleasant experience...which he did! Don't waste your time on some of the other auto dealers out there, go here FIRST and see Mark. I think you'll be happy you did! read more

I had always held Bill Walsh Automotive Group in high regard, which directly influenced our decision to purchase our new vehicle locally. Unfortunately, my last visit to the Bill Walsh Sierra Motor Mall service department for routine, scheduled maintenance and inspection (7,000 miles) including, but not limited to, an oil change was very disappointing. Arrived home following service to find a 100-foot trail of oil on my new concrete driveway and approximately 1/2 qt. puddle of fresh oil on garage pavement. Fortunately, the driveway was brand-new and protected by fresh coat of sealer, so clean up was fairly effective. I realize that mistakes can be made, but clearly in this case there was a lack of follow-up by service department that could have resulted in substantial engine damage beyond the resulting inconvenience of several hours labor to clean driveway and garage pavement. read more
