Welcoming staff as soon as we came in. Loved the wood tables & chairs. Cheerful summer decor inside & the patio looked nice as well. Lots of locals seemed to come in as we were there. Friendly & helpful with our kids - always helps! Good fries & chicken strips for the kids. Husband had prime rib - he LOVED it. I had the blackened salmon which was amazing. I live down the street and am a regular customer.i also travel regularly and visit a wide array of restaurants across the west coast. this restaurant takes all aspects above and beyond. service is exceptional, food is amazing. the selection of food is satisfying and delectable. 5/5 in all categories. we should also remember this is a restaurant in the middle of nowhere with an extensive offering. they even offer take out and a full service bar with outdoor dining that has a Michelin star view. please support local passions and dine here you will not be disappointed. My Wife and l ate at Sierra Vista Restaurant on March 1st 2025 after driving by for months, it was terrible. The halibut was freezer burnt and overcooked my shrimp scampi was soaking in l don't know what and had no flavor the steak was ok but super thin and my Long Island ice tea was so bad l could not finish it. The halibut was a small piece of steak ( 1in by 3in) that looked nothing like there advertised filet in the picture . My wife said to let it go but after reading other reviews l got irritated either the reviews are lies or they just gave us terrible food. The waitress was good but stressed so l left a good tip. I had a destination wedding near Sierra Vista on 4/20/24. The September prior, we went to see the location and we had tried a ceviche place nearby and were pretty set on going with them. We were nearly about to leave the area and thought "well, maybe we should just stop by this other restaurant since we are here" and boy, oh, boy are we glad that we did. We met Joy, who we now call "the bell of the ball". She was literally the BEST part of the wedding- well, that and the love my husband and I share. Joy and her team handled all of the food, the details, the creativity, even some decor! She is the resourceful type and also has a goal of saving her clients money. She gave suggestions on what to go bigger on and what to scale back on. She would say, "oh we have that. I will bring it" and allowed us to save both money and space on the ride out there. The ceviche became the pre-ceremony food and Joy became the main meal and we even added a brunch by the river that she put together and it was FANTASTIC!!! The food was tasty, perfect quantity, amazing homemade feel and fed our entire large guest list. She was not overwhelmed EVER even when the venue owner gave us some issues. She was professional, kind, flexible and just the best. Her team was helpful, creative, sweet and professional. I wish I had photos but I was just enjoying the moments so much- mostly due to her team having everything under control. I cannot say enough about this catering team. In September, we were able to visit Sierra Vista. Her restaurant was great with wonderful ambiance, and her off site skills were just incredible. We will be back to celebrate our anniversary with Joy. read more

The top sirloin steak was absolutely amazing. It was huge, tender, and delicious. My husband got the petite prime rib special which was actually enough to feed two people. I have eaten there 2 times and sad to say the Ribeye steaks were not good both times. The first time the steak was the worst I had eaten to date. It was so tough I could hardly chew it enough to swallow it. Good flavor but the toughest steak I have ever had. I know tough meat because I eat Venison on a regular basis. The second time was last night at a birthday party. The special was a Ribeye with shrimp. Everyone at the table that ordered the special as I did received their steaks looked fine. Mine was nothing like theirs sad to say it was 1/4 inch thick, the thickness of a pencil. I ordered it medium rare which is impossible on a steak 1/4 inch thick and hard to say that it was 10oz either. It was a steak you would use for a sandwich not for a dinner at $35.00. The waiting staff was amazing and received a good tip for their hard work. What should the kitchen have done if they ran out of the good steaks? A good restaurant would send the staff out to the customer and explain the situation and ask if you wanted something else. Not put anything they on a plate and send it out to the customer. I did not have a chance to speak to the staff about it due to how busy they were. read more

I have celiac disease and Sierra Vista is excellent to clientele with food allergies. I have never been glutened here, or cross contaminated. They always make me feel welcome and have never made me feel I should just "cook my own food" or like "it's a pain to deal with." I had an amazing bacon wrapped fillet mignon, rare, 2+ inches thick; it cut like butter, melted in my mouth like butter, amazingly delicious, OMG to die for, in addition to salad with Italian, and green beans. No gluten, no dairy is what my celiac is, and their food is so delicious it doesn't taste gluten or dairy free. A very nice and amazing family owned and operated restaurant. It is clean, beautiful inside and out, with amazing service, oh, and a bar. I highly recommend Sierra Vista on. We held a high school reunion on the patio, with over 50 guests. The ENTIRE staff of the restaurant were absolutely amazing and helpful! From the very start to the end, Joy was so helpful and fun to work with! We had a delicious buffet with brisket, chicken, salad, potatoes and bread - so delicious! This was the second time my wife and I ate at Sierra Vista and we had great experiences both times. The first time my wife had a special and I had the ribeye. No, it wasn't the best ribeye I've ever had, but it was a very good piece of meat and it was cooked perfectly medium rare - and it was reasonably priced (far better than the more expensive ribeye in a restaurant with a view in Kernville). This time we both got the prime rib. Again, it was perfectly prepared and as succulent a slab of prime rib as I have ever had. The salads and baked potatoes were also just right. There was a wonderful breeze blowing through the outside dining area and compelling views. I'm a bit of a wine snob, so it would be great to get such well prepared proteins with something more interesting than Josh, but the wine was perfectly serviceable, plentiful and well-priced. We are looking forward to bringing friends here. read more

Been a patron for years. I love the interior with rustic wood chairs and decor. You won't see dusty fixtures - everything is very clean. There's also seating on an outside patio surrounded by trees. A nice atmosphere. They carry several beers, wine and alcohol. Their ice tea is also nice. Restroom is outside. The waitstaff is great and knows the menu very well. This summer they serve fried fish and chips on Friday evenings. Each order has been great...crunchy fish and seasoned or battered fries. Expect 2 tablespoons of coleslaw that doesn't fill up the cup. If you order this, a dessert is included but not rolls. Salad is not included since the coleslaw is considered salad. I keep trying different items on the menu trying to hit that great meal and find it all lacking, depending on the cook. For last Friday's meal I ordered penne alfredo with shrimp and was very disappointed. Pasta was not penne and the pasta was swimming in sauce. The butterflied shrimp was good but way too much sauce. Either the salad or dessert is included...can't remember which one. I ordered both and was surprised to see a charge for one of them. Over the years I tried the different steaks. There is no filet. The ribeye is a large end cut and not very tender. Seems like a poor cut and I was disappointed. The baked potatoes are good as are the tater condiments. I can't remember any recent prime rib meal and will not comment. Kabobs. I'd steer away from these if you expect 'grilled' kabobs. I had a beef kabob which tasted steamed along with steamed vegetables. Very unappetizing. I believe the cook we had that evening cooks them in foil on 'a grill.' Not what I want. Greens choices. I don't care for field greens and that's what they serve. No romaine. Salad includes various vegetables and isn't bad. Rice Pilaf. May not be what you expect. It's rather odd. Want a martini? Expect to pay $9. I like eating at local restaurants but feel like I'm overpaying for what I get at Sierra Vista nowadays. I try to be generous in reviews and hope you will stop in and make your own decision. I also think while all diners should be treated well, your locals are your bread and butter. We are the ones who want to keep coming back. Pass through diners may write a review but you'll never see them again. Locals like to be friendly and want to chitchat with the staff a bit and feel valued. (And I apologize for any locals who overstay their time and take up table space. I try to be respectful of my dining time.) I also read reviews of early closing. Yep. It happens if the restaurant is empty too long. If going later, call first and not be disappointed. read more

we drove all the way to Kernville, to have dinner at a place, when we got there the wait was too long. Other places were closed so we came back and tried this place for the 1st time. it looks very fancy from the outside, but the prices are great! True Gem! She was the Only waitress for the entire restaurant, the entire evening. The prime rib special was only offered to the first table (6), as it was small. We were the 2nd table in the restaurant and we got the ribeye as the special . And it went downhill from there. The French onion soup was cold, not even warm enough to melt the sliced cheese (fresh out of the plastic wrap). My steak was cooked well, when I ordered medium rare. The potato was okay. The "hot fudge" sundae was a tiny scoop of ice cream with a tiny drizzle of chocolate sauce and whipped cream that was flat, but was charged almost $5.00. We have tried and retried this restaurant, and we won't be back. read more

Only consistent complaint is with their deserts, which tend to be tiny and overpriced. Otherwise, our groups have eaten here many times with rarely a disappointment. They maintain separate lunch and dinner hours from Wednesday through Sunday. They are located on Highway 178 in Weldon. The teriyaki chicken and shrimp scampi was another story...The chicken was dry and tough and the shrimp was overcooked. The dinner salads were large and good m the steamed broccoli with carrots was perfect. The prices are a little high but the attentive service is worth it. Stopped here on my way home from the lake. The service was excellent, beer was ice cold, and the food was delicious! The waitresses were very nice and made me feel comfortable like I was a regular. What a pleasant surprise. My wife and were camping at the Kern River KOA in Weldon and noticed the Sierra Vista Restaurant as we were driving in. After we set up our site we decided it was time for dinner so we chose the near by Sierra Vista. Upon entering, we immediately liked the country chic décor and friendly service. After seeing an abundance of cows in the surrounding area, my wife decided on the beef. I chose the chicken shish kabobs. Fortunately for me my wife shared her steak, and it was excellent. I wished I would have ordered the beef :) We look forward to visiting the KOA, but more to return to Sierra Vista. this place is a hidden gem. great food. friendly staff. good atmosphere. my buddies and I (6 of us) are staying at KOA a few doors down and walked over. food came out in a timely matter, and was delicious.
