We're staying at a cabin near Kern River, about a 20-minute drive from this restaurant we found by Lake Isabella. The waitress was friendly and attentive, despite how busy it was. This is clearly a popular local spot, as seen by the regular customers greeting one another, but it also offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere for tourists. There were no issues with ordering or the food. Portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable to fair, especially considering its remote location. Service was prompt, with no major delays. The bathroom is for one customer at a time, but it was surprisingly clean. I would definitely come here again and recommend it to anyone visiting the area or passing through. This restaurant in Lake Isabella servers up large portions, I had went here with my friend Lucas and his wife met us over here. We each ordered the chicken fried steak with the eggs over easy and the country potatoes and the country gravy and biscuits, Let me tell you I was stuffed after eating all that food, the food tasted so good that I just could not stop eating and since I do not live in the area I did not want to just waste the food. They have a counter if you do not want to sit at a booth. There is also a bowling alley located just behind this restaurant, so you could always work up an appetite and then come to the Red Rooster for some really great food. This place has a large selection of items to order. I highly recommend this place. read more

The service was bad , guess if your not a local your not greeted properly. Our waitress took our order and we never saw her again. I asked for coffee from another waitress. A couple came in after us , there food was served first. The food was diner food nothing special. They should not serve eggs Benedict as I we got hard boiled eggs. Not a lot of food options on this side of the lake so I wasn't expecting much. read more

We are up in lake Isabella to visit family in the hospital, and find this little gem to have brunch at. Step back in time to a diner that has great food and service! Carrie, our server, was sweet and attentive. Coffee was great and served in a nice big mug and she kept refills coming. They have flavored creamers and half and half. Hubby chose the taco omelet which was full of ground beef, potatoes, tomatoes, jalapeños and more. He enjoyed it and was stuffed after! I had the Rueben, which was everything you would expect in a classic sandwich. Onion rings were crunchy and also great. We will come back when here next time! Best breakfast food and great hot dogs. I am always greeted and can sit wherever. The waitresses are so friendly and they're always so friendly and welcoming. I highly encourage you to try it but they do close at 2pm, so I suggest that you get out there early. read more

This is your typical diner with your typical diner food, and that's not a bad thing. We stopped by on our second day in the area, and I will admit that we stopped by because they were one of the few places open early in the morning. We arrived early enough so there only a handful of customers, so service was very quick. The coffee was good, and so was my omelet, but the country potatoes were under seasoned. The best thing about breakfast was the biscuits and gravy, hands down. Sure, it looks like a heaping mess of oozing gray sludge, but damn was it good. The country gravy had a little bit of a kick to it, and the biscuits underneath were really buttery. I would come back for this alone. If you're in town, check this place out. read more

Oh my goodness... talk about homemade country cooking and the hospitality to go along with it. The cook is very talented beyond words. Candice our waitress blew us out of the water. The place was packed and she was able to clear a booth for us 7 people quickly. She also was the fastest waitress we have ever come across and sweet as pie. Oh, and she had extensive knowledge of the menu, which was vast. We are out of towner's but wish this place was by us. This place has some of the best and hugest breakfasts, and burgers! I absolutely love their Screaming Rooster burger, OMG it has cheese, jalapeños, onion rings, and huge pieces of thick cut bacon, and all the rest of the fixings you'd put on a burger and it is delicious and one of my definite go to choices. They have an Ortega green chili burger, and it is also fantastic and I haven't seen Ortega green chili's on a burger outside of Arizona or New Mexico. They also have some of the HUGEST breakfasts I've seen in a while.... their chicken fried steak is so huge it comes on a plate by itself, and OMGEEEE it is as delicious as it is huge... their biscuits and gravy are amazing, there appetizers are fantastic... they have such a great selection of foods it's hard to not wanna try to order and eat everything on their menu... Only drawback, they close around 2-230pm so if you're crazy great diner food, get up and go in before they close! I've recommended this place to Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives because they deserve the recognition! read more

We came to the lake for Memorial Day weekend and decided to stop and eat breakfast at Red Rooster Cafe. The staff, especially our server were kind, professional, and personable. She took the extra time to help make sure the 3 toddlers in our party were occupied with coloring books and happy. The service was quick and food came out quickly. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the country scramble and chicken fried steak. It felt like I was home at grandmas eating a delicious home cooked meal. We will return for the top notch service and food. read more

Red Rooster - Finally! We had been wanting to check this joint out for quite a while but the parking-lot was always a bit to full for my tastes... And now I see why! First lets hit the highlights: Service = Top notch. Cost = Reasonable. Taste = Outstanding. Quantity = Huge. Red Rooster is a smallish within spittin' distance of the lake. In fact many of the table had a view of the lake across the road and down the slope. Not the highlights: First off, the facility itself is a bit dated and greatly resembles an older cafe or coffee shop, which it is. I am not sure that i would want the dining area updated or not as it might ruin a but of the nostalgia but at the same time it is... not new. The second item is in regards to availability: They are open from about 6:00 am until about 2:30 in the afternoon, so dinner is out of the question. Another aspect of the availability is the fact that the dining area is kind of small, so plan for a wait regardless of when you go... Overall I was very pleased with this joint and happily dole out 5 stars in the same sense that they doled out a wonderful, life-giving bacon cheeseburger to me. I would recommend this joint to friends and family and I will be back. read more
