On Monday, the auto shop that worked on German cars in South Lake told me they couldn't get to my car until Friday. My Uber driver in South Lake on Monday warned me the annual celebrity golf tournament was coming up this week and most rental agencies run out of cars. So I reserved a car for Wednesday, with a return date of Monday. When I picked up my car, there were no other cars available - thank you, Uber driver! I explained to the woman at Enterprise that I wasn't sure when I needed to return the car, and she said there was no problem returning it early. Since Uber, I've rarely rented cars, and it's usually a very negative experience. This was great, though. No waiting, the woman I worked with was very efficient and polite, and no hard upsell on extras. It turns out I was able to return the car early and got the bulk of my payment refunded. Overall, a great experience for renting a car.

Combined Avis & Budget office located in the Lake Tahoe Resort hotel near the parking structure…read more This is great because if you're flying into San Francisco, Reno, or Sacramento, you can rent a car and then drop it off in Tahoe. You'll pay a little more for the privilege but at least you have an option. I picked up a rental from San Francisco and drove into Tahoe so I could attend Yelp's Tahoe Getaway (http://www.yelp.com/biz/yelps-tahoe-getaway-south-lake-tahoe). I "needed" to be in Tahoe by 6pm that night and renting a one-way car was cheaper than flying into Reno. Parking: The hotel valets instructed me to pull up in the red zone near the parking structure and then go inside. I'm sure there are actual spots but I'm not really sure where. And if you're coming in the off season, it's probably not an issue on where you leave the car. The venue: Super small office, basically a desk, computer, file cabinet, and printer locked behind a glass window. There was only one employee working. I don't recall if two people can fit in that tiny office. So you'll want to plan ahead if you're short on time. I had a little bit of a wait (about 15 minutes) because someone was picking up as I was dropping off. I had time to spare so it wasn't an issue. The lady working there was super nice and helpful. I dropped the rental car off a day early but the system was trying to charge me for the full rental. So she had to manually change it and did so without complaint. They're only open until 3pm on the weekend. I'd definitely rent (or drop off) here again.
