Well you know what they say about a vacation. If everything is going perfect, brace yourself for the fail. In this case it was my experience with Siena Tartufi.
I'm not going to make this a long drawn out review. I could sincerely bash this experience with great detail. I choose not to. I'm going to focus on one thing. Something I believe is the core of customer service. That's get what you were promised. Don't mislead. Underpromise and over deliver.
First, we were promised a 2 hour truffle hunt. We got up early in Florence and went to Siena only to find that the gentleman taking us on the hunt said we were misunderstood on the start time. Well not the fact. We had a reservation from our tour company that confirmed and I even looked online and his truffle hunts are a 2 hour experience. So our 2 hours turned into 1 hour. Not good. Second, and what really pissed me off was the truffles themselves. After finding the truffles, a miracle in a drought situation in itself, the tour guide took the truffles and never gave them to us. Odd, sense in my reservation it explains clearly that the you will retain the spoils of your hunt. Keep the truffles. So when we asked him where are the truffles we found, he said he forgot them at his house when we returned to his Little truffle store in Siena. Then once we complained to the booking agency, he said that we gave them back and didn't want them. Then additionally he said another fib about having to prepare them. So as the issue escalated, he ended up having them dropped off at the restaurant we dined at that evening. It was all hocus pocus. And if I would not have been so pissed off I would have let him get away with his little scam.
Listen, I don't wish ill will on anyone. Especially hard working business owners. What I won't except is being cheated.
Steer clear from this tour. Unless you like a good scram. read more
