Nannini, a Rick Steves recommendation, is a pretty café with pretty pastries. I asked for a vegetarian sandwich and I got the best I had in Italy: Two cheeses and zucchini warmed on what I believe it was focaccia bread. We were there in the morning and the sandwiches weren't out yet, but the staff went back and got it for me. Thank you!

Before producing a formula 1 pilot (Alessandro) and a rockstar (Gianna), the Nannini family were already famous for their bakery dishing out traditional Tuscan biscuits and cakes. Try out their cantuccini, ricciarelli, panpepato and panforte. They're said to be among the best in Siena.

GREAT for large groups as the bar is long and lots of places to stand and enjoy your pastries and coffee. Price is very reasonable for coffee and variety of pastries to choose from for €1.

There are so many pasticcerias in Siena but in the 4 days I've been here, Nannini surpassed them all, not only in deliciousness but also for or the sheer number of pastry and dessert options. This review is for pastries only so can't speak for their other food items or drinks. Only drawback was a grumpy employee behind the counter, but no matter... the cashier was as sweet as pie. And holy cow! Most pastries were only 1 euro! Crazy. I'm so sad this pasticceria can only be found in Siena!

On our vacation to Italy, this pastry store was a highlight because the panforte was so very tasty - all flavors. Excellent!

An hour or so before Palio, I stopped by La Vecchia Latteria for a snack. Ambiance (2/5): This gelateria is pretty small, so given the timing, ordering was a bit of a mess. There's a small indoor area and the line was out of the door. Definitely a grab and go type spot instead of other ice cream shops that have plenty of seating and are bigger. No seating here. Service (3/5): Given the demand, they were trying to do the best they could by taking orders as quickly as possible. More of a controlled line would have been nice but they were working hard which is always appreciated. Drinks (N/A): Like most gelaterias, they have various soft drinks and water. I didn't order anything. Food (3.5/5): As usual, I went with the medium which allows you to select two flavors. I tend to go with a fruity flavor and a creamy flavor. The selection here is nice and consistent with the hundreds and hundreds of gelaterias that are spread out throughout Italy. Overall: Located in the heart of Siena, La Vecchia Latteria is one of the best and one of the oldest gelaterias in town. It makes for a good spot for a refreshing dessert on-the-go.

I ordered a slice of tiramisu which was a perfect end to dinner. The texture was perfect and the espresso was just right. I would give it a perfect score but it was just a tad too sweet for my liking. Overall 8.5/10 piece of tiramisu for me.

My favorite dish by far was the ricotta gnocchi with hazelnut pesto, topped with a dried tomato paste. The gnocchi dumplings were unlike any other gnocchi I've had before--they were cut into a rectangular (rather than round) shape, and the pieces of dough were so soft, pillowy, and tender. But the best part was definitely the creamy, earthy hazelnut pesto, which was balanced out by the acidity of the dried tomato paste on top! Next, we had the Tonno del Chianti, which means "tuna of Chianti," but the dish was actually made of pulled pork in a marinade of sage oil and rosemary, and served at room temperature. Interestingly, the slightly chewy, fatty strips of pork looked a lot like pieces of canned tuna--hence the name of the dish! Finally, we had the beef meatballs served with an oregano-flavored mayonnaise. The deep-fried meatballs had a crispy texture and meaty flavor, and paired nicely with the unctuous, herbaceous mayo that was artistically smeared onto the plate. Overall, this was a fantastic restaurant with fine dining-level presentation, but I simply could not believe the amazingly low prices for all the different dishes!
