Let me tell yall... I love a straight razor shave, and Sidney was fire!! Attention to detail was so refined. He took his time and ensured my shave was perfect. This being Sidney's first review, I didn't have much to go on other than the photos that had been posted for him. Since my hair has been been plenty abused around town, I figured I didn't have much to lose. I'm happy to report the photos are true to life and, even more important, Sidney is the real deal. The exterior could use some more color and signage, but don't let that deter you. The studio interior is impeccably clean and orderly, with thoughtful decor and a very comfortable waiting area. When my turn came up, Sidney was very polite and friendly as he asked some questions about how I wanted my hair cut. For once, I actually remembered to bring in a photo of what I would like, and then Sidney got to business. He stayed focused throughout, engaging in polite conversation from time to time, but not allowing idle chat to distract the task at hand. I took particular notice of how he carefully double-checked the lengths and textures without having to be prompted -- the sign of a craftsperson on top of his game, not just someone providing a service for a fee. He provided a mirror for me to check the progress about halfway through, and then again when finished. Neither occasion gave me cause to request that rough spots or uneven lines be cleaned up. However, I'm sure he would have handled them with ease and charm. I would never hold it against a barber for missing a spot along the way--so long as it was fixed before I left the chair--but the lack of any such oversights did signal to me the high level of Sidney's skill and concentration. When all was said and done, I had a great new head of hair and I happily turned over my $20 for a job expertly executed. If you are looking for someone who has great pride in his work -- and reason to be proud -- Sidney is your man. He provides hair cutting service for both women and men. read more

I love this place. My wife and I just moved to the area and I was in need of a new barber. Based on other yelp reviews, I decided to try Sidney's and I'm glad I did. For starters, he was very inviting. I was the first one to show up for the day and he was ready to get to work. Sidney took his time, unlike places like Great Clips, to make sure he did a satisfactory job. He was very focused and you could tell he cared about his work. He was also wasn't over talkative. I'm a talker myself, but some barbers take so long because they just talk your ear off instead of cut your hair off. I've been to lots of barber shops, but Sidney finishes the haircut not only with a straight razor clean up, but a hot cloth massage. It was amazing. The aftershave was even a nice organic oil that moisturizer and didn't burn. The haircut was worth all of the 29 dollars. For those wondering, haircuts and shaves are $29, beard trims are $15, and eyebrow clean up is $15. read more

I have lived in North Charleston since 2002 and have tried many different barbers until I found Sidney's Professional Barber Studio. Needless to say, I left some feeling disappointed and upset after the experience. This was not the case when I first visited SPBS. I think anyone's a little cautious when you are trying a new location and changing barbers for the 1st time, but rest assured; Sidney atmosphere is top-notched. My first experience was just like my last. Professional! Sidney barbering studio is clean, spacious and welcoming. You won't find the distractor(s); i.e. loud music, inadequate sitting, etc. Sidney greets each and every client and no matter when you arrived; Sidney will never give you the rush treatment or 'fast cut'. I was really proud to learn that Sidney is a very active in the community and frequently does a lot of volunteering projects outside his studio to assist the community. Lastly, I'm content with Sidney as my barber and would recommend his services and studio to anyone that is looking for a first class atmosphere. read more

Sydney was very professional. I've been in the area for 1 1/2 months now and found Sydney's shop via Yelp. The reviews were positive so I thought I would give him a try. I am so happy I did. He has great conversation and worked the whole time. The shop is very clean and you can tell he cares about his business and his clients. He gives suggestions for his new customers and asks questions to make sure the cut he provides is to your satisfaction. Sidney is THE barber in town. $29 provided me with an excellent hair cut and a straight razor shave. Be prepared to wait if there is a line. He takes about 20-45 minutes per person depending on what's requested. The attention to detail and perfection is well worth the wait in my opinion. Will be future customer. read more

I've been working here in North Charleston for a few months and tried different barbers. This one, is different! Sidney pays attention to what you want and always gives you and idea of what he'll do before he continues to make sure that's what you want or like. I went into Sydney's with the leavings of a bad haircut from another barber and, up front, he listened attentively and asked questions that made it very clear that he cared about what was important to me (which isn't as common as it should be) and that he knew how to work with my very thick, very straight hair. Not only did he do an excellent job, but we also had a genuine, pleasant conversation. Very thorough and very nice man to work with. I have been looking for a place to go to get my haircut in Charleston for a while and have gotten messed up plenty of times. However I always drove by Sidney's Professional Studio and yesterday I decided to try him out. What a pleasant surprise this was exactly the place I was looking for! I always hated meeting new barbers but he made me feel right at home. He was totally professional. He keeps the place perfectly clean and I like to see that in a barber shop. The hair cut. Man did I feel good walking out with that hair cut! The guy has good eyes and good hands. The hair cut was exactly what I wanted. Before the cut we went over some ideas and he imputed too what would look good. You know some times you don't know what to say? We'll he will tell you straight up if it will look good on you or not and give you some ideas. The hair cut was pure precision he took his time and I enjoyed it. If you want to go get a good hair cut please go try out this place you will not be disappointed. Like a lot of places in North Charleston don't judge a book by their cover.
