We dropped into Side Door Ceramic Gallery on a drizzly Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, during a long walk up and down Alberta. It was small and lovely, a shop as well as a studio, run, as far as I could tell, by the ceramic artists. There was woman spinning a potter's wheel when we walked in, with a sweet little dog, recently rescued, napping at her feet. She was friendly and welcoming, and we chatted with her while we browsed.
The ceramics were gorgeous--rich colors, pleasing shapes. I liked every piece in the shop. The prices were reasonable, and I was tempted to buy more than I could realistically carry back home to L.A. After a lot of hemming and hawing, and reminding myself that I never use mugs, I bought two deep blue cups that I plan to use as succulent pots.
If you're looking for some beautiful handmade ceramics, check out Side Door. It's worth a visit even if you don't buy anything. The goods are nice to look at, and there's a cute dog who might appreciate a few gentle pets. read more
