I accidently saw this restaurant almost as soon as I left where I was staying in the Centro Historic of Guadalajara, where I am spending a few days after 3 weeks in the Pacific Mexico resort mecca of Puerto Vallarta. I immediately recognized the sign, in Thai stylized English, from a previots search of inexpensive but 5 star rated spots on Yelp. Although totally full, the young man who greeted me told me to wait a couple of minutes as a table was about to open up. Before I could even decide what I would do w those few minutes, he was showing me to my table. The menu all written in Spanish, but most of the items had names that were easily recognized from my many years of enjoying Thai food both at home and in Thailand. Thats probably why I ended up ordering my usual Thai comfort foods rather than one of the specialties this restaurant is known for. Tom Kha soup was, as the menu clearly indicated, moy picante, but not overly hot. I was just about to tuck into the huge bowel of steaming shrimp and pan sauteed fresh vegetables in a fragrant broth when my waiter, Allan, set my main course of Pad Thai with shrimp down as well. This is the only reason I am goving Siam a 4 rather than a 5 star rating. Along with the ice cold Heinekin and a bottle of my favorite domestic sparkling water, and I set about trying to enjoy as much this sudden abundance before either dish got cold or the restaurant closed. And Im glad I did as everthing about this restaurant justified taking a walk on the wild side and have a surprise authentic Thai meal in a place where I have been enjoying the local cuisines for the past 4 weeks. And the price- everything plus tip was about $17 (and would have been even cheaper if Trump's outrageous comments as he was leaving Washington and then upon arrival in Davos hadnt made the value of the dollar here and around the world drop by about 10% overnight! read more
