This company is wonderful. We moved into a house that somehow passed inspection. A few short months later, we put the house on the market. The inspector for the buyer found a nightmare. The attic had very poor ventilation, and worst of all, it had black mold throughout. The previous owner painted over it with black paint. We found your company in The Shepherd's Guide. Your team did a wonderful job of replacing the entire roof in only 2-3 days. I've used them on three different homes, and always do a stellar job. Fast, professional, and have yet to find a shingle or screw in the yard afterwards. They were very helpful in educating me on different options and anytime I have called in they've been responsive. I sold my first townhouse a years after using them to replace the entire roof and 5 skylights. The inspector and parents of the buyers asked for their information because they were so impressed with the totality of their work. I never felt like I was getting a hard sell or getting sold something I didn't need as with some other companies that I had worked with in the past. The men that replaced my roof were efficient, did an excellent job and cleaned the area well when they were finished. Schumaker is a long-time, highly experienced roofing company that, through the years has consistently done high quality, customer friendly work. They recently replaced my 20+ year old roof and did a wonderful job. Tarps were every where and not a speck of old shingles, nails or other debris remained on our property. The company's president, Bob Schisler , explained everything aspect of the job, what to anticipate, and the itemized cost. The 1 day installation crew was a finely tuned operation. I'd give zero stars if possible. I called to get a quote and the man on the phone was so rude! He said we don't do quotes. Someone will call you tomorrow morning to make an appointment. I asked a couple more questions about the appointment. He then said, "I don't think we'll be a good fit. Good luck with what you need." I was shocked so I said, "Excuse me?" BUYER BEWARE! BUYER BEWARE!! This company and it's owner are a fraud! I hired them in good faith to come to my home to investigate a leak I was having from my dormer on a second floor to a first floor bedroom ceiling in November 2017. They worked a couple of hours and charged me $595.00 which I gladly paid to have the leak repaired. The very next moderate rain we experienced the dormer leaked into the bedroom ceiling again. Mind you it takes a moderate rain for the leak to show up. A very light rain does not trigger the leak. After finally reaching their office (it takes weeks to get someone to call you back) they returned and told me the first $595.00 leak fix didn't work and it needed more work so they charged me an additional $940.00 and told me this would do the job. Unfortunately it did not. The very next moderate rain we experienced it leaked again. And once again after a couple of weeks trying to get them on the phone they returned. The technician climbed on the roof with his caulk gun for a couple of minutes and told us that should do the trick and off he went. This happened time and time again. At this point we are more than a full year and $1,535.00 into a supposed repair that was never repaired and we are afraid to leave the house because when it rains our bedroom will be flooded and ruin the new hardwood flooring. That's a full year with empty buckets, trash cans and plastic all over the floor of our bedroom. More visits from Shumaker Roofing yielded the same results. More long and frustrating waiting for a call back and more short visits with a caulk gun and more leaking into the bedroom and a sagging and stained drywall ceiling. At this point we are more than 2 years into the repair project!! Finally I had enough and I hired another reputable roofing contractor to repair the leak. They did a wonderful job and removed all of the work Shumaker Roofing had wrongly installed and completed the job correctly and efficiently. It took them three hours to repair and at a very reasonable cost ($350.00). We have had quite a few hard rains recently with absolutely no leaks and the bedroom is once again dry. My wife called Bob the owner of Shumaker and asked for a full refund for the faulty work they had performed. We were returned $500.00 of the $1,535 and told by Bob the owner they had performed work on our other dormers which is an absolute lie. Shame on you Bob for putting us through this mess. They only worked on one dormer. The other dormers on my home were not, and are not leaking. Hire this shoddy company and its lying owner at your own risk. You cannot get someone to answer the phone other than an answering service and you can expect no call back, or at least weeks of waiting. I feel like we were taken advantage of and ripped off by the owner Bob and Shumaker Roofing. I will post again as soon and let everyone know how the litigation turns out with the MD. State Attorney's Office and the Frederick County Department of Consumer Affairs. Additionally I am filing with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission and if I get the additional $1,035.00 of the full refund I will post that as well read more

I take exception to the review posted for Shumaker. While the person answering the phone can be brusque, please remember these are construction people. Perhaps the usual receptionist was out? Maybe Jane N. should check her sensitivities at the door? I called, had a call back to schedule an appointment scheduled for an estimate. Bob Shumaker came for the estimate and could not have been nicer or more knowledgeable. BTW, the company was recommended to me by someone in the trades. We are currently awaiting the estimate for our work. I can't give a 5 yet, because I don't have 1st-hand experience with their work. I will say we are awaiting THIS estimate while in receipt of 4 others, and believe Shumaker will be our choice. read more

We had our roof and skylights replaced, and a solar tube installed three or four years ago by Shumaker. I can't say enough about this company and its employees. I initially called to have some shingles replaced as a result of storm damage and also have them provide me with an estimate to replace the poor quality shingles the home builder initially installed. They responded immediately and didn't charge me anything for the repair until I made a decision on replacement. Should I go with Shumaker, the repair was free. Scott was upfront and thoroughly explained everything. He worked with us on the shingle type, skylight selection, and solar tube installation requirements. He gave us all the information we needed and plenty of time to make a decision. No pressure at all! A welcome change from many contractors. We had one issue with a piece of rubber flashing 2 years after the installation. I was going to fix it myself but just happened to mention it to Scott at the Frederick Home Show and the very next day they were out and replaced it, no questions asked. This is what I look for in a contractor. The job was done when promised and to my complete satisfaction. They also thoroughly cleaned up at completion. During the last storm, there was a leak in my roof, so I called this company because they offer 24 hour emergency roof repair. They couldn't respond during the storm due to icy conditions, but helped me manage the leak in the meantime through suggestions. The man said that as long as the weather improved, they should be able to send someone the next morning to fix the leak. Two workers from their company arrived the next morning and fixed the leak. They explained the work they did, and the price was very reasonable. I thought I would have to pay much more for emergency service, so I was delightfully surprised! read more
