I came to try this place out since I heard they had good fried chicken. This place is an absolute dive. But I don't mind if the food is good. You order at the counter and either take it with you, or eat in their nautical-themed dark dining room that looks like it hasn't been touched since 1981. I had my dog in the car, so I got my order to go. The chicken really is good. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The fries are excellent. The coleslaw was fine. Obviously a purchased item ... they certainly didn't make it. Reminded me of KFC's coleslaw. I got a 2 piece combo (one breast & one leg for about $9.60) The service was great. The ladies at the counter were very friendly. I also got a chocolate chip cookie. It was nothing special... but it was only 75 cents so ... I'd definitely try this place again. read more

We placed our order to go, but then got there and decided to eat in. I had a fish sandwich and okra. My goodness gracious! Let me start with the seasoning. Whatever that is, bottle it up and sell it. I will order online monthly. Everything was seasoned to perfection. I didn't think I was going to eat my entire sandwich, but to my surprise, it was gone in 5 minutes. Then someone ordered a chicken platter ams had to get out of there before I ordered one. The young man that was bringing food out on 11/22/25 was mannerable and was focused on the job at hand. I just ordered the Captain's Dinner with added coleslaw & a drink at your Cherry Rd. location for dine in at 12:40 . At 1:15 after still awaiting my food, I asked for it to go which took 8 more min. Food was the worst seafood I've eaten anywhere. The fish was soggy, scallops were all batter, fries were soggy & coleslaw had an off-flavor, deviled crab was breaded & deepfried? Best Friend Chicken. Crispy, yet so juicy, moist yet crunchy. IDK what the sauce was, green, but amazing. The Hushpuppies also great. The people were very friendly and nice. The vibes were great, just felt like a lowley, yet so alive, decore was a lil old but it just felt right. read more

Well Well Well Shrimp Boat, what a way to welcome a girl to Rock Hill, SC. I had the pleasure of having take-out from this place tonight. My husband and I traveled to Rock Hill for the holiday weekend to visit his best friend and his wife. As our host they recommended we try this place. I was down as I am always down to try something that is not at home. I will say it was just okay. This is a busy place on Friday's and the weekends so our host pre-warned us. The chicken was well seasoned but one of my two pieces was a big soggy due to the precipitation from the bag. The fries were soggy as well. The hush puppies were bomb and reminded me of one of my favorite fish spots, Arthur Treacher's. I am not a coleslaw person but tried it anyway and I was like yea I'm good lol. Overall I would try it again but I would probably go in and eat if possible or if I have to do to go again, go get it myself so I can eat it hot and fresh. read more

Absolute best fried chicken in the Rock Hill area! There's a very good reason why you'll hear locals use the restaurant's slogan of, "Ain't no chicken like Shrimp Boat chicken!" You place your order before you are seated. When leaving a tip, the cashier will give you your tip in cash for you to leave as the actual tip on the table! Now for the food.. The calabash shrimp was pretty tasty, seasoned well and you get a LOT of it, especially for your money! Each dinner combo comes with fries and hush puppies (a little on the greasy side). You can pay $1 for slaw if you'd like. I wouldn't recommend the fish and fantail shrimp combo. You literally get 1 piece of fish (which was a little tough) and 4 shrimp for the same price of an entire boat of calabash shrimp. Just my opinion though. Oh, and they have the best tartar sauce!! Ordered Half chicken carry out and added chicken livers. The chicken livers were so overcooked and dry you could crumble them in your hand like a cracker. I live outside of Rockhill and called them to perhaps get a good order of livers the next time. The guy at Shrimp Boat said he would replace them if I came back within a week. Not sure I understood such a short timeline especially when I'm not in Rockhill every week. I missed my deadline and got stuck with not getting a good order of livers. One star and probably won't be back. read more

Because really though, there ain't no chicken like Shrimp Boat chicken! The space is small and a bit worn-down but clean and has enough room for plenty of dine-in customers while many more seem to get their food to go. You order at the counter up front and either the waitress brings it to your table or you wait to get it to take away. While the restaurant is called "Shrimp Boat" and has a nautical theme and they do have ample fried fish options, the real star of the show is their fried chicken, even down to the point they have the motto "there ain't no chicken like Shrimp Boat chicken" on the sleeves of the staff's uniform shirts. For real. And it's no lie, it's possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had and the hush puppies are certainly the best I've ever had, anywhere. However, the salt and pepper catfish was only ok, and their mac n cheese I found pretty poor. I don't know how Shrimp Boat came to be renowned for fried chicken, but that's the big draw here. Still, they offer two kinds of fried shrimp, several fish options, and more. This is the type of Southern soul food place where literally everything in the kitchen except the coleslaw and the cook himself goes into the fryer, so be ready for fried, fried, fried here. And enjoy it, as they say even if you order seafood, do get an additional side piece of at least a chicken leg or wing to just try that chicken because, there ain't no chicken like Shrimp Boat chicken! read more

Last night shrimp Boat saved my life! I had this craving for fried chicken and didn't want typical fast food. I decided to get 1/2 chicken dinner which came with a thigh, breast, leg, wing, fries, and coleslaw. Everything was delicious! Juicy crispy crunchy chicken perfectly cooked fries and that good sweet coleslaw! Everything was fresh and I enjoyed everything bite. Came up to 9.37 after tax I thought that was high but after eating it I don't even care how much it was. Parking lot was spacious and restaurant was spacious. My order, made through door dash, didn't arrive til about an hour and a half after it was made. It said it should take 30-40, understandable. An hour and a half, not so much. Whether that was shrimp boat or door dash, don't know, neither were responsive when I called. Everyone's food, not just mine, was cold. I had a seafood platter, missing some of the items. An absent side as well. But that didn't matter, because my friends pork sandwich bun, was COVERED IN MOLD!!!! No way anyone was eating after seeing that. She called with little offered but a new sandwich, and sent to doordash, if we wanted a refund. Understandable. It wasn't til a post on rock hill eats management got ahold of her, and asked to make it right. I don't trust the quality of cleanliness or staff, to not serve moldy food. This was a favorite spot in college, and we recently stopped on our way home from Charlotte, NC so my husband could experience Shrimp Boat chicken! I got the seafood platter, which consisted of flounder, deviled crab, shrimp, scallops, hush puppies, and French fried. There were only like four scallops, but a TON of food for the price ($13.50). My husband got a two piece meal, and the chicken did not disappoint. Another unusual menu item I've always enjoyed is their chuck wagon sandwich. Staff is super friendly, and yes food is mostly fried and super heavy but also fresh and delicious. Definitely recommend for a quick bite if you're in the area! read more

Fun little family place that serves a mean dinner. Had the fish and shrimp and all of it was tasty. Fish was very flaky and plenty meat. The shrimp were small but good. Had a order of onion rings on the side. They were cooked golden brown and very good. The staff is southern friendly and very helpful. Came in with a group of 18 people and they had no problem serving us. All orders prepared well and no mistakes. Great job. read more

SALTSALTSAAAAAAAALT. HELP. I NEED WATER. Too harsh? Sorry faithful patrons, but it's not. At least for my first experience here. Yep. My first time and The Saltman ran amuck! Deviled crab was good but the stuffing had salt in it and it was then salted on top to the point of seeing it on white patches. The onion rings, fried chicken, hush puppies, you could see the salt-not crystals-POWDER. Did the grind salt into powder? First for me. What I had to laugh at was that the FFs were UNDER salted. Everything is coated with the same batter and deep fried. Deep fried and salted on top. EVERYTHING. Don't get me wrong. The food was good. It really was. Most of it. The fish. YUCK. It was tough and not a good flavor. Skin left on one side. Not sure what kind of fish they use. I don't recommend it at all. And the pork chops were a HUGE disappointment. They had an off flavor. Like on the verge of going bad. Ok. Break it down. Good: Fried mushrooms with ranch dressing dip. YUM! Best thing we got. When I crave these I'm come back just for these. Was told when ordered by phone that would be able to pickup within 10 minutes still waiting 50 minutes later and have yet to be told why I am still waiting. Have to say place is not the same guess under. New management and they apparently don't care about customers they would rather socialize than offer good customer service. We decided to try out this dive as we were told that they had the best chicken wings and apple turnovers - and we are glad we did. Although, we were over dressed (we went after work), had to wait a while and noticed that a family who came in after us got their meals before us, everyone was friendly and we were satisfied. We ordered a fish and shrimp plate, a chicken plate, fried pickles, and fried mushrooms. Everything was hot, and seasoned well & we took most of the food home. The consensus was we wouldn't order the fish and shrimp plate again but everything else was a solid selection. To go we ordered apple turnovers and fried corn and regretted the fried corn (not what we expected). However, we wished we would have ordered more apple turnovers. 5 stars for the friendly service and crushed ice. 4 stars for all the options. 3 stars for the chicken as it's just okay. Nothing to write home about but at least they offer text deals; yelp deals (per other reviewers but nothing when I checked in) and Lunch offers; 2 stars for that fried corn on the cob and dark broken pieces on my chicken wings. Yep you read right. FRIED corn on the cob. It's battered then deep fried but not greasy. No flavor. The crushed easy to chew ice is only behind the counter. At the fountain the ice is a huge square. Its like a trip back in time......The last time I was here was back in the 80's. Still the same feel and definitely the taste I remember. This place has a wonderful take out business and is usually very busy. The staff was very friendly, the food was good and the price is very reasonable. Very good chicken! The more ($1 more) expensive shrimp was the tiny kind, not for me. Will have to try the fantail next time. Server who brings the meal was fantastic! Great service. Fries were really good too. Says takeout on the side of building but there is quite a big seated room so absolutely can eat in. read more

In fairness, I have not eaten anything on the menu except the fried chicken. I have traveled throughout the south (Carolinas especially) and can say with authority - they have kick ass fried chicken! If you aren't a fan of fried chicken, then you might not appreciate how consistently awesome it is. Either way, I don't care. If you like it crispy (not crunchy/bready) on the outside, and dripping (yes oil) juicy in the inside - then look no further. Yes, its a dive. The outside looks pretty dumpy, and the inside isn't much better, BUT...you gotta get the fried chicken!! Enjoy read more

The best fried chicken anywhere in the world. I live in Florida, and make a point to go to Shrimpboat at least twice a year. I take friends with me, and they get hooked on the chicken. What has happened to The Shrimp Boat The slaw was the best in Rock Hill. The slaw has changed. It was made in house and was great. Now it taste like generic food supplier slaw. Not good. Please go back to your great slaw. I hate to say this my chicken was very over cooked and was not a great grade of chicken. Please bring back our great Shrimp Boat. The only reason I'm giving one star over five is because of what occurred towards the end of my meal. A lone cockroach (about 1.5 inches long) crawled on the floor under our table. Not sure if the is an indicator of a larger infestation or not. I'm glad I was the only person who saw it or it could have ruined the entire meal. I have to say the food was wonderful, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat. The chicken was wonderfully crispy but not greasy, the fried pickles and onion rings were a success, the rolls buttery, and even the ice in the soda was great. The cole slaw was rather lackluster, though. Everyone greeted us with a smile and was incredibly sweet. read more

We ordered 15 medium boneless wings and sweet potato fries. The food came out fast so we didn't have to wait long at all. The wings were hot and really tasty. No complaints there. The sweet potato fries were not great. They were cooked inconsistently so some of them were really good and some were barely cooked so next time we will skip those and just do wings. We will try Wing King again because the wings were really good.

My husband had the country fried steak and he said it was very good. Not the best he's ever had, he said, but good enough. He wished there'd been more steak and less crust, but the flavor was right on. They were out of the salt and pepper flounder, so I changed my order to the ranch chicken. Ummmm....excuse me. Who says not to order chicken breasts at restaurants? The portion size is SO generous and the chicken is SO DELICIOUS that I, the girl who rarely bothers to take leftovers, boxed up what was left and brought it back to my hotel and ate it as a midnight snack.
