Starting with the positive, Showplace Henderson literally has the best seats in town. I'd even say the seats rival the $14 Royal Suite experience, but I'm picky about recliners.
Point being, Henderson has incredibly comfortable leather seats for the same price as squeezing oneself into the retro boxy accommodations of Showplace East or South. Concessions still cost a ridiculous amount, but in the Information age I'd like to think we're all adult enough to know WHY concessions cost so much and also gladly pay that much to keep a theater open.
The staff are always friendly and knowledgable, the theater is always clean and accessible. As nice as the staff of Showplace are, AMC Evansville 16 is a fraction of the price at 3.99 for a matinee ticket and 6.99 evening. Compared to Showplace's 7.50 for a matinee, frequent moviegoers have a clear-cut choice. Do you want to pay more to keep a local chain in business, or support a locally owned franchise of a larger chain? I don't have a
My biggest issues with this location are :
1: Noticeable imperfections in the screens. Pay attention when buying a ticket, if your showing is on Screen 1, be prepared for a large scratch on the bottom right of the screen. It's very obvious during any shot with bright colors over that area.
2: Either a poorly thought-out policy or lack of caring on the film crew's part. I have yet to see a film at this location where house lights are not significantly dimmed (if not turned off) for trailers. AMC locations kill house lights, some Showplace locations dim the nights, Henderson lets them blaze until the movie starts.
This might not seem like a big deal until you're watching sci-fi, horror, or thriller trailers, all three genres known for using dark shots in their trailers. Suddenly you have zero clue what even happened in the trailer. When attempting to see a horror flick over the summer, I left my seat to ask a crew member why the lights were still on. The response I received was "that's what's supposed to happen." read more
