For being a quick place to pause, stretch, and take a quick walk, this was great! There's a little bit of history, the Shot Tower itself was pretty cool, and is getting a new display case, and situated right on the New River Trail. Not to mention, it was not crowded, had restrooms, and was dog friendly, so a great place to stop. You are supposed to pay to park, but I have a VA park pass, so it was included with that. Foster Falls is about a mile or two away, and the trail was nice, high above the river and had a near walking bridge over what used to be a ferry site. Yes, it is right off the highway, so you may have some street noise, but if you just want to pause on a longer journey, this was a nice stop with decent views. Climb the stairs in the tower and look all the way down the to the collapsed tunnel below, it's quite a drop! read more
