I have been hiking in the area for over a decade and it's always been a very special…read moreplace--history, great geology, and a date shake--all are part of hiking here. The Amargosa Rover Canyon offers several trails in China Ranch and beyond. There are two ways to hike the canyon itself. The best way to enjoy most of the entire canyon is to spot cars. Leave one at China Ranch and drive the other to Tecopa, California and park where there's public parking behind the post office. From here, hike south following the trail. Mostly you'll hike on the railroad bed of the T&T Railroad (Tonopah and Tidewater) bed as it follows the Amargosa River through the canyon. At places, the trail leaves thew railroad bed and makes wide arcs on the east side of the trail. After 5 miles, you'll reach the turnoff for China Ranch and where the spur from the T&T was built to bring gypsum from the mines above the ranch from the Morrison Siding. Along the way through the canyon from Tecopa, you'll see areas with barbed wire. This is where horses and cattle were fenced in to keep them off the railroad tracks. You will see no track. The railroad stopped operating in 1940 and the rails were pulled up and used for World War II needs. About a mile and a half from the Ranch, there's a turnoff to the west (right) and this leads to a little waterfall on the river. Beyond this about 1/4 mile, there's another turnoff--again to the west--that leads to a slot canyon that is blocked by a huge chockstone. Both side trails have signs but they have faded a lot over the years. When you almost reach the 90º bend in the river, the trail goes up a hill and heads east (left) toward the ranch. Before going up the hill, take time to look at the wood left from when this was where the gypsum was loaded onto ore cars over 100 years ago. Follow the trail from here to China Ranch. On this last bit, you'll come to a building. My first photo of this building is from 2005. The building was called the Tuff Building and the sign that was there said it was first a bar and then an assay house. The building was supposed to have been repaired that years. 1w2 years later, another portion has fallen over including the concrete piece from the doorway with the 1903 construction date in the concrete. I'm sure when I hike here next year, the rest of the southerly wall will be down too! What a shame! There are several hikes. After this 6.5 mile hike, you'll want to have a date shake and perhaps some date cookies. You earned them. On another day(s), you can explore the other trails in China Ranch. After your shake, take the car you left at the ranch and ride back to Tecopa to get the one where you started your hike. This is the way to see almost the entire canyon.

Oh, the sweet smell of exhaust. How I have missed it. The last opportunity I had to go to a short…read moretrack race was in Summer 2019. 2020 was a bust. But 2021 is a new year with new opportunities. The Pahrump Valley Speedway is the closest short track speedway to Vegas that is currently up and running. I would normally go to the Bullring at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for my racing fix but they are still shuttered from what I can tell. So, Pahrump it is. One major difference to point out about Pahrump Valley, it is a dirt track. Imagine that, dirt in the desert. It doesn't get much more pure than a short dirt track to throw back to the early days of NASCAR. You've got guys running hard and fast in a variety of cars sliding around the high banks for the win. Its loud. Its dusty. Its exhilarating. This track is anything but fancy. Its old and looks a little run down. Aged wood structures. Wooden bench bleachers with no backs. Low level lighting in the turns on track. Absolutely zero lighting in the parking lot. There is a concession stand serving up burgers, hot dogs, pretzels, snacks, and drinks. It's a small and unpretentious facility. And a good bit of fun. I enjoyed my night out last night. It was the first "event" since the pandemic. It felt good to get out. That said, I do not intend to come here often. I mean, it is quite far from Henderson. A few more visits when I feel the need for a good dirt track race is not out of the question though.

So, I was pleasantly surprised by this amazing family owned business! We Loved everything about this place! Extremely clean and well run! I was told you could really burn through money there but IMO it was an excellent value! I have never been to an arcade in my life that has been a better value or even close to this one! This is not a huge place but it is packed full of fun modern games. I thought it would have old, run down arcade games, because again, this is Pahrump. But that was not the case at all. They have all the cool new games, claw machines, and really awesome trendy prizes the kids LOVE that you can purchase with the tickets you win from playing the games. The prizes are so cool and I guarantee you can take any child there and they will find something they like. There truly is something there for everyone. It's even fun for the parents! You can tell that this place really cares about children and providing a fun and safe place for them to play the games. This arcade is the opposite of a rip off! The claw machines are easy enough for the kids to play and win big! Our visit there was the most fun we have had in a long time, especially here in Pahrump. We also really Loved the little cafe they have there. I Loved the way it was themed, Super Mario (perfect!) The pizza there was pretty darned good! The staff was so kind and caring and they took the time to help you if you had any difficulty with any of the games/machines. In fact, they were happy to do so. Probably because unlike most businesses these days, this establishment is adequately staffed! Kudos to the owners, managers & kind, caring, patient employees. Extremely pleasant & polite staff. Good vibes all around. This is hands down the best place in Pahrump to take your child or children for an amazing weekend afternoon! They are only open on the weekends, so be sure to observe the posted hours of operation. My daughter and I were absolutely thrilled we found somewhere so cool in Pahrump! We can't wait to come back and play there again! They have great prizes for tickets and great prizes you can win out of the claw machines as well! They even have claw machines where you can grab a whole roll of tickets! They do recycle the plastic balls from the claw machines you can grab the tickets from so please don't throw them away! Just hand them in to an employee. They also recycle the Solo cups available to put your quarters in. So, please be aware of that as well. They have recycling bins throughout the place that you can drop your used coin cups and the plastic balls from the claw machines in, scattered throughout the place. I just feel bad because I didn't know that at first and so I did throw a couple of the plastic balls in the trash. I won't make that mistake again! I'm sorry Game Corner! A place that cares about our children, our town AND the environment? That's a winning trifecta for me and an establishment I am honored to patronize!

They also have live music out on the patio, which is really nice to sit and enjoy when it's not too hot outside. That said, I would not recommend the wines. The hospitality and the local vibe are great, so I'd say come for dinner and just stick to a single glass of something you know you like, but definitely skip the wine tasting or trying too many of the options.
