Rules are set and provided on handouts but while they are supposed to not take away or distract from instruction that is not always the case. Audience is not suppose to have phone calls, play media with sound on devices, have long loud conversations, interact with students when being taught, eating, walking on mats with shoes, you name it they break it. Rules are rules and should be followed if we want to reinforce the martial arts lessons kids are trying to learn by parents. Again, if only the audience were less distracting and disrespectful towards dojo rules this place would be a far better place for all involved. My recommendation is for same rules provided to be posted visible to all in several areas so people are reminded each and every time they look around.

My son has been in Dauntless for over 2 years now and he started when he was 5 years old…read more The 1st day when we came in to do the free trial class, I was convinced right away and signed on the dotted line. I liked that the instructors taught the class with just the right balance of discipline with still being able to have fun with the kids and the thing that really convinced me was they threw my son right into the fire and he learned the same drills and lesson the other bigger kids were learning and didn't "dumb it down" for him because of his age and he rolled on the first day. He has missed 4 days in 2 years and looks forward to class every time. We all know kids will complain when they don't like something - he has never complained about going to jujitsu class at Dauntless. There have been several different trainers for the kids class in those years and there's always more than just one normally on any given day. They all have their own style but it all works. My son has won medals in a few jujitsu tournaments so the proof is in the pudding. The other kids who have been in the kids jujitsu class long term have also won medals in tournaments. Throughout his training, I could tell that the instructors would really pay attention to all the kids in the class. You could tell they knew each kids strengths and weaknesses. I would see them talk to other parents and myself and our kids and give a fair assessment about whether or not the kid was picking up on things, maybe needed more discipline than the others, had to pay attention more, was maybe struggling with a certain move, etc etc. You knew they were individually customizing the training approach for every individual child once the kid was in the class long enough for them to see what the kid would need to succeed. If you're thinking about trying them out, I would highly advise you do it. After a long hard day at work, trust me, I want to be able to relax at home. But because I know how much my son loves going to jujitsu and because I am so happy with this school, that's why we haven't missed more than 4 days in 2 years (and that's going 3 days a week). And it doesn't hurt that the actual instructors who train the kids are not just great instructors but great people - everyone is very friendly and SUPER respectable. I tried to get them to call me by my first name and I just gave up because they kept calling me "sir" lol.

Elite Jiu-Jitsu in Newark has offered us three months for free to make up for the bad experience we had. We are happier there.
