Bro, the food was so good. I got the seasonal ramen! The meat was huge!! I would love to try out the other ramen. The ramen there beats the ones we eat in SoCal for sure.

Very disappointed with my service today! A young gentleman named Giovanni served us today but he didn't not show much enthusiasm with serving us. We ordered a wagyu beef yakitori, he asked how we would like the beef, we said rare. When it came out, it was well done. Called for him to rectify it, he went, "Oh did you order rare? Let me ask my manager." The manager came over to rectify it. When the bill came, he charged us for an additional yakitori. The negima and I Clarified, I ordered 3 yakitori that comes with a pint of beer. He looked at me unconvinced. I counted the skewers and go, there's only 5, we never ordered an additional skewer. I even pointed it out on our plates. Again he went, let me ask my manager as he was unconvinced. Once again, the manager had to rectify what small issue it was. The manager looked at the bill and looked at the skewers and he was happy to reissue an updated bill without much explanation. The server Giovanni was unapologetic and kept shooting for his manager when he could have apologise for an honest mistake. And two. He was unconvinced that it was a mistake when he clearly took the order from us. It's a bad experience I had today and his hospitality is appalling. I'm not going to con an honest business just for a few quids. . . Be more proactive, more enthusiastic about your job. What I detest most, bad service!

Very nice ramen (I'm not sure why you would go there for anything else!). Soup has been cooking for hours and it tastes yummy! Full of flavour and f-a-t! Noodles (which they say are made there) should be had as "hard," not "standard." Basically al dente. Definitely nice to have the texture. My main qualm--portions too small!

6 pcs gyosas came sizzling hot! Mmm!

Why can't this restaurant be bigger?! I want more ramen! We struggled to find a phone number to make a booking and online there was only a book 24-hours-in-advance-by-email job. Still, we tried as we were a party of 6. We got a reply but was told that it would be hard for them to hold a table for us but we should pop along anyway. When we arrived it was already pretty filled as there aren't many seats. Luckily the mangers were great and did some shuffling of bookings to fit us in. And boy am I glad they did! As it's my first visit to a Shoryu Ramen, I went for the dishes with a star by them, indicating chef's recommendation. This was the gyozas which came slightly stuck together (by a thin layer of some sort of pancake mixture) sizzling in a iron pan with soy sauce and yuzu paste on the side. These were great! My friends also tried their Taiwanese buns and they looked amazing! For my main, I got the Kotteroi Hakata Tonkotsu with hard noodles (which actually tasted very similar and had firmness that was indistinguishable to the standard noodles). The broth was EXCELLENT. I'm not fussed about the char siu pork or the double egg, by which that means two halves of nitamago egg - they didn't wow me but they were not bad. The broth was the main show. Shame there wasn't enough noodles for £12.50. Yes, you can order more noodles for £2.20, but that's just excessive for a bowl of ramen, in Manchester. Still, until there is another authentic-tasting ramen shop in town, I'll be revisiting again!

After twice being put off by the size of their soft launch queues (last week people were waiting outside in the rain 45 minutes before they opened!), it was great to finally be able to get in straight away and see for ourselves what the fuss was about. This is the London-based ramen chain's first restaurant outside the capital, nestled in between two other chains (Ask Italian and Pizza Express) in Piccadilly Gardens. When we were shown to our table our presence was 'announced' to the restaurant, with all the staff welcoming us in unison in Japanese, which was a nice, if somewhat unexpected start to the visit! It must get tiresome for them given how busy the place is. Inside is light and minimally decorated, with paper lanterns, wooden tables and the open kitchen along the back wall. We were sat at the long table facing the chefs at work, which was a bit of a squeeze but we managed without bumping elbows too much. After sharing some gyoza, I decided to try their signature ramen - pork broth topped with char siu barbecue pork belly, nitamago egg, kikurage mushrooms, spring onion, sesame, ginger and nori seaweed. With a superfluous hot green tea - I really didn't need any more liquid after the ramen - we left feeling warmed up after a hearty meal, but it wasn't cheap. I'd come back to try their other ramen dishes and the sake float, but I wouldn't say I was completely won over on this occasion.

I have been to Shoryu Ramen in London several months ago and really enjoyed it. As well as the ramen, we had some lovely sides. I was very happy when I heard that Shoryu Ramen was to open in Manchester - as far as I know, we don't have a similar sort of place selling ramen with lovely broth. Until now! Shoryu Ramen in Manchester opened about a couple month or so ago and had a soft launch - 50% off ramen. It was so popular that there were big queues going outside the door. I decided to wait until the "hype" aka special offer had gone before going. I went a few weeks ago just before Christmas with a friend who had not been to a Shoryu Ramen before. We both went for the Kotteri Hakata Tonkotsu ramen and different sides - I went for a pempura prawn steamed bun. (On Monday its Bun Monday - 2 for 1buns every monday when purchasing a bowl of ramen). The gyozos were nice and tasty but it was the ramen we went for. To be honest, more specifically its the broth. The rich, lovely 12-hour pork broth. The actual ramen noodles are nice, just normal ramen noodles but the broth is so good and all the other ingredients you have in it. Looking at the menu choosing what to eat, I did fancy the seafood ramen but it had a spicy kimchi broth. I don't mind a bit of spice, and a bit of kimchi but don't want something too spicy. But I love my seafood. Maybe next time, and there will be a next time, I will ask them how spicy it is. We were sat on the bench area right in front of the kitchen so could, sort of, see everything that was happening. After eating, we complimented the chefs :) Its not the biggest restaurant, possible reason for those huge soft launch queues, so you may need to book. At the moment you cant use the online booking for the Manchester branch, but there is an email address to email to reserve table - they need 24 hour notice. Depends what time you go, we went on Sunday lunch time around 12 and got a space straight away. It wasn't on a table but as I said, we sat on a "bench". I think I noticed the big table in the middle which seated about 12 people with a reserve sign on it. I recommend going! If you do, I recommend checking out their web site for any offers on - like the Bun Monday offer I mentioned above. They also have a loyalty card. So overall, lovely food and good service. PS - When you arrive, every one who works there shouts something to "welcome" you. No idea what they are saying! :)

Hungry for Japanese ramen noodles.... come here ASAP. Never have I ever seen a vegan broth option until now. Ramen continues to be my favourite noodle dish of all time and since moving to Manchester from Hong Kong I was struggling to find a good alternative to the Tokyo style ramen noodle bars back home. Until this little gem opened! I can finally eat ramen in peace the side dishes are also very well made and have excellent presentation. Service here is impeccable - fast and helpful. I could write another few paragraphs on how awesome this place is but just to sum it up: 1) great noodle bar atmosphere can be made up to be super classy or casual 2) great food tastes delicious and worth the money! 3) staff are helpful and friendly (they gave us free dessert on my boyfriends birthday!) 4) overall pleasant experience and cute condiments on the side.

Was in the mood for some Ramen and there really aren't tons of options not aren't chain restaurants so I was a bit skeptical, but turned out to be pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, very friendly staff and the food was delicious. I really enjoy d my vampire ramen (filled with garlic). Will definitely be back to try the rest of their ramen options.

I am a massive fan of ramen and cook this dish at home regularly. Having not heard of this place before I suggested we scarp the sushi and head here ( believe me it takes a lot for me to abandon my sushi mission) On entering, the ambiance washed over me immediately, nicely spaced out tables with soothing music. The gent behind the bar took heed of us promptly and welcomed us to sit anywhere. Menus were handed out and although the cocktails sounded delish I was watching my pennies after having spent a fair amount at the event. Unlike me I stuck with the tap water and went straight for the ramen. These started off at £10.50 I did not pay too much attention to the appetisers. Himself chose the basic Tonkatsu which included pork belly and crackling. I was tempted by this but chose to go with the curried soft shell crab tonkatsu which was the most expensive £14.50. They arrived promptly and I have to say the broth was a magnitude of flavour. The soft shell crab I prioritised to prevent it from getting soggy and snaffled the perfectly soft boiled eggs. Apart from some spring onion and noodles, these were the only ingredients. What I would say overrall, I think the Shoryu Ramen place offers more in diversity and ingredients when it comes to the ramen however I felt a lot more comfortable sat in this venue. Also I believe paying this price for ramen is a little bit expensive especially as I know how much it costs to scrape one together. Will I be back? Yes I would not mind trying more of their food along with their alcoholic beverages..

Than a steaming bowl of ramen? We were greeted by a very cheerful server who took us through the menu options - basically there are several ramen choices and several bao bun options. We both went with ramen though - Sparky had tonkotsu, I went for the spicy nagoya. Both bowls were absolutely delicious - probably the best ramen I've had in Manchester. Drink wise they had a wide choice of beer and cocktails - we were surprised and happy to see they had draught Asahi so we went with a couple of those. Overall there's nothing to fault here. Great food, great drink, friendly service and reasonable prices.

I wasn't even sure where it was, and when I realised we were heading towards the Merrion Centre I was less inclined to jump aboard the Japanese food train. If looks were everything this place wouldn't be too busy. It looks kinda dingy from the outside, and whilst the inside has a certain charm about it, it's not the Ritz but doesn't profess itself to be so. Think of it as a Japanese eatery version of the local cafe. I was looking over the menu, contemplating what to order, and being particularly hungry, did my unusual thing of looking at starters. My friend just shook her all knowing head at me and pointed straight to the mains. Huh? Well what was cloudy became clear within about ten minutes, as my hearty noodle dish came, steaming and smelling divine, and flippin huge. Seriously, I was pleasantly surprised at this. Considering how quick our orders came, I was more than pleased to take in the taste and how fresh everything was. It didnt have that 'been stewing all day in a pot waiting to be warmed up and served' taste, nor did it have quick food microwaved crunchy in some places and soggy in parts texture either. Being a dork with coordination, but feeling self conscious at the people opting for the chop sticks, I was relieved when a fork was provided for me. There's a good hustle bustle vibe about Fuji Hiro's and whilst the staff are not rude, far from it, there's an efficient business like approach to providing awesome food to their hungry clients, even the ones who are yet to walk through the door. Easy on the budget, good in the belly.

It was so small you had to go through the kitchen to use the toilet. The choice of food and drink did surprise me.. how could they find room to stock it all? With loads of different sake, juices and wines. Selecting a glass of plum wine ..himself green tea we pawed the menu. There was a great use of pictures which helped us decide. From various sushi Nigiri, temaki, sashimi etc to noodles and ramen dishes. I found the sushi a little over priced to the average sushi joint of this nature..we decided on the 12 piece sashimi and sushi platter ..for mains I chose my usual spicy seafood broth with udon noodles, beef and kimchi. Himself had the beef yakisoba. We inhaled the sushi as soon as it hit the table. It was good healthy amounts of tuna and everything tasted fresh. The wasabi did not mix well with the soya though.. My main was a far cry from what I had at Baekdu the week previous. This was packed with veggies..tender beef and seafood. The broth was also excellent. Looking up I could see my other half wolf down his..giving it the thumbs up . Overall the service was very good and food was a stark contrast to the restaurant. It seemed as though a lot of locals did the same too, as people kept popping in to investigate whilst we were eating, in the hope of an opportunistic free table. Despite only opening three weeks ago Sakura Houses' popularity is clear, the restaurant was packed but it's also only 6 tables, which may play a part! Either way we were lucky enough to snaffle a table for two off-the-cuff as there was a 45 minute space before a booking and our waitress was happy to make time and space for us. Due to being short of time we decided to stick to a simple meal each, so we didn't sample the sushi - which seems to be the main fare. I opted for a comforting plate of pork katsu curry and it was very tasty and freshly cooked, so fresh I almost burnt my mouth on the cutlet! My only issues were that it is currently cash only and that my meal came a good 5-10 minutes after my partners - but I honestly think these are just opening month niggles. Sakura House isn't fancy, it's an honest little restaurant with lovely staff and I think it's a welcome and refreshing addition to the area.

Nine of us turned up for lunch on a miserably cold, wet day. The meal here was just about better than ok, but not at all near great; scrapes two stars against price paid. If I were invited back I wouldn't be looking forward to going again. The teppanyaki 'show' is almost non existent. We've been to dozens of these shows over years in USA and on cruises. The shows are usually highly entertaining with food portions tasty and generous. This place was lifeless in comparison so if it's the show that attracts you'll waste your time and a lot of money too. Customers are also being ripped - off. This is the biggest shock I had - although the cooking left much to be desired as it's not simply cooking that's essential: building and concentrating flavour and plating up tasty food is important and mostly missing here. My wife chose what was a mean - portioned duck spring roll starter at a stonking £8 - 75p in ingredients to make (see photo). It tasted ok but not super. I got a 1 star tempura seafood £9.5 starter. It was also quite poor, not generous, lukewarm and the tempura wasn't crispy light either. I do better/tastier at home. A £1 chicken breast becomes a £20 teppanyaki with the addition of some sliced fried potatoes, about 20 pence worth of potato and tasteless thin sliced vegetables, tipped from a plastic bag onto a hot plate (beansprouts/carrots/snow-peas) then steam cooked to limp, unappetising, served with a very small bowl of fried, long grain white rice; say about fifteen pence worth. The rice wasn't cooked in front of us but at the hot plate behind our 'chef'. My pitiful small portion of cheap rice was al mush rather than al dente, with lumps of starchy boiled rice still prominent (see photo). No second portion was offered. I opted for fillet steak main £26 for 4/5 ounces of raw meat; had I opted for sirloin it was £24 for 6/7 ounces. The meats were tasty and cooked as ordered. I chose the Sapporo peppercorn sauce. It was far and away the tastiest part of the whole meal by a distance (not a big challenge) but the 'chef' slightly burned the pepper sauce. My first 330ml ale choice at 7% wasn't available (£12.05 a pint) I got a 6% tasty amber ale (£10.32 a pint). The staff are polite and courteous. The atmosphere was surprisingly muted despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy ripping off lots of folks at one time.

We actually tried to go to Double Zero, which is practically next door, but as there was another 20 minutes until they opened which would've meant standing outside in the cold we went elsewhere and arrived at Yakisoba. The restaurant itself is a bit narrow, but there's room inside for a decent amount of people - say 30-40 or so. We were a group of 6, which wasn't an issue as they weren't very busy. Unlike other restaurants serving Asian food, Yakisoba had already provided cutlery on the tables as well as chopsticks so you don't have to make that embarrassing admission that you can't use them. The menu is pretty extensive, with a selection of starters and sharing platters, but practically everything comes with a bento box with a range of accompaniments for a larger main dish. We ordered three of the mixed dumpling platters to share between us, and for a main I went for the Kare Katsu Chicken, which came with steamed jasmine rice as well as the bento. The mixed dumpling platter had 10 dumplings (2 of each of the five varieties), as well as some dipping sauces such as sweet chilli and soy. I liked all the dumplings, which were filled with a variety of meats and fish, and the sweet chilli sauce was great. There was a little bit of a wait between the bento aspect of the meal arriving and the main dish following it, but that wasn't too bad. One of our party had a little mishap where one of the staff dropped a portion of rice on the table, which we made a little bit of a joke about and the lady who was waiting on our table took it in good humour too. The Kare Katsu was a hearty portion, and I mean hearty. The chicken was crispy and perfectly cooked without being dry, and the katsu curry sauce was fantastic. The chicken pieces were huge too, which made it interesting eating with chopsticks but I enjoy a challenge and it also stopped me from basically inhaling my food. The rice was good also, but I think sticky rice would have been my preference - especially for eating with chopsticks. The others went for a range of different bento meals, including the teriyaki beef steak and the duck in red thai curry, all of which looked delicious and went down well. They have a decent range of drinks as well, including Asian beers like Kirin Ichiban and Tsingtao as well as wine and spirits. Overall, even though we didn't set out to go to Yakisoba I'm quite happy that we did. Some of our group couldn't finish the meal, due to the size of the portions not any issue with quality, so if you're after a hearty meal then this place will provide. At £25 each for a starter, main and a couple of drinks each including a tip it's also not going to break you financially either. If you just wanted a main course, all the bento boxes were around £9-12 and would make a good meal on their own. I'd certainly be happy to return to Yakisoba in future.

I love places with open kitchens, it somehow makes you feel like you're no longer sitting in the UK. After sharing a platter of starters between us, we each ordered a Bento Box which, together with your main course, comprises an assortment of salad, vegetable miso soup and steamed Jasmine rice. I ordered the Teriyaki Fillet Steak (grilled slices of fillet steak with ginger, rice wine and soy sauce). The sauce was particularly rich but when 'diluted' in the rice made for a delicious and hearty dinner. A thoroughly pleasant evening and I'd definitely eat here again if I was in this neck of the woods.

Kimchi is a nice casual korean cafe style restaurant and the food here is limited but good quality…read moreand all priced under £10. I had the kimchi tofu jigae and the kimchi pancake which was pretty big but tasted amazing. In the jigae they also added a poached egg into it which gave it a nice taste, and the spicy factor was perfect; not too spicy. The service is average bit efficient, the food came quite quickly and another good thing is that banchan is served complimentary here, which doesn't seem to be the case with many UK korean restaurants. They also have some Japanese dishes on the menu like sushi, gyoza, temaki and teriyaki. There is parking right outside and it's pay and display but very cheap: 50p for 30 mins and £1 for an hour. The atmosphere is very casual like a cafe, so it's great for lunch as well as dinner. Overall, authentic and tasty Korean food that's well priced and made to a great standard.
