I love this park. We have a new dog and thought we would he might have fun at a dog park. This place is great. There are separate areas for small and large dogs. There is a doggie pool and a splash pad on each side. Not only were the dogs friendly but the pet owners were too. Very clean too. I look forward to bringing my dog back read more

You are definitely barking up the right tree if you bring your furry friends to this dog park!! It's super "pup"ular place for dog lovers! Today it was packed! I have a Goldendoodle Grand-puppy, Hampton, who loves romping around this grassy enclosed park. For safety and convenience, they have two separate fenced sections, one for big dogs and one for small dogs. Be sure to take note of the posted rules. There's a water station to refresh your pets after they are done frolicking and socializing with their playmates! Today there was a dog festival and people with their pooches came from all over town! There were several tables set up selling dog treats, handmade dog toys, t-shirts, baked goods and more. This, of course, made the barking lot crowded! They could definitely expand the parking! In the summer, pools are filled so your pups can cool off with a swim. For pooch lovers, this is a hound haven... but for me it was a bit too mutt-ch. I did, however, run into several friends who had their loyal canines with them so I had fun being the pup-arazzi! The rest of the park was full of families enjoying the other amenities at this park like the playground and picnic areas. The facilities were well maintained. Tails are wagging at this paw-some dog park where "man's" best friend can raise the woof! If your nose isn't used to doggie smells, it may be a little ruff! By the way, if you get directions from Yelp, it may lead you to a dead end near a gas station. Just stay on Pump Road and it's just by Broad St. read more

We love this park!! We've taken our dog because of the huge dog park it has. Very clean and plenty of space for the small and big dogs in separate areas. Once we had kids we have moved over to the other side and taken our daughter to the playground. One thing I wish they had was more shade for the kids to play especially under the swings. It's a decent size space for the kids to play. We love this park and always make the 40 minute drive to come here! Plus it's close to lots of food places to bring as a picnic at the park! read more

Cute cute park! There is a large dog park with shaded areas for both small and big dogs and then a nice playground for kids and even a splash pad when it's warm out! Nice covered pavilion area also for a break in the shade or eating a picnic! Pro: clean bathrooms with running water and sinks for washing up! read more

Took our miniature Aussie to the small dog side of this park today for the first time. She had so much fun and enjoyed meeting the friendly dog owners and their dogs. It's a very clean park. We will definitely bring her here again! read more

Love this park, whether it's the play area for my granddaughter or the dog park for my pups. Super clean, lots of parking, public restrooms, and the play equipment is in excellent shape. Very family friendly park! read more

A great park with many dogs and friendly owners. Best dog park I have ever been to. Most of the park is covered in artificial turf. No mud. read more

I would give this park a 4 for children ages 2-7, but a 3 for kids older than 7. There is a smaller playground next to the larger one for toddlers which is great. It has an umbrella over it which adds a bit of shade but the slides (especially the 2 steeper ones) get really hot in the heat. The tunnel twisty slide is fun and one of the few like it around the area. There are a moderate amount of climbing structures for games like Hot Lava, etc. My kids (ages 7 and 10) lost interest after about 15 minutes. When they were younger they definitely enjoyed this park more. read more

So my review is not for the dog park, just the park in general. I came here for an event that a local MS was putting on for our dog rescue. It was a great event and all of the people walking to the dog park seemed friendly. The park was clean, the bathroom was clean, and there was a playground around too with things for the little kids to play on too. The dog park looked like it was taken care of, but here were way too many dogs for me, but as I said I am not reviewing the dog park. The dogs all seemed to get along, and people were being very vigilant. It isn't somewhere I would go just because of the amount of people, but many people were there and no incidences. read more

It doesn't get better than this as far as dog parks go. We feel so lucky to have discovered this pooch oasis! A huge enclosed park with a larger dogs section and a smaller separate small dogs section so all poches can play comfortably. And it's covered in turf so is pristine and mud free even after a rain. Dogs and owners have been friendly every time we have been. It's impeccable clean with a park attendant coming in frequently to pick up any poops that may have been overlooked. A water spout and house are on hand together with an assortment of large and small plastic pools. Plenty of bench seating. Only complaint is I wish there was more shade. But aside from that we couldn't be happier to have found a clean, friendly place for our dog to run around and play / socialize. Have gone every morning since discovering and inviting all my friends with dogs to come join us! Impressive. read more

This park is absolutely wonderful. All grass and no dirt. I try to take my dog out there every weekend. The park has 2 sides one for small dogs and puppies and one for big dogs. So far the dogs have been very friendly and the owners are very careful to make sure their dog is respectful. read more

Great Dog Park! The best in the Richmond area, probably the best in Central Virginia. Always 30+ dogs at all times in each of the Small Dog enclosure and also in the Large Dog enclosure. My pack lives close to Stony Point and love the small one there since it's artificial turf and doesn't get our dog crazy dirty every time we go. We stopped going to Barker park because of the amount of mud and grime that will always be caked onto our smallest member. The dogs at Barker are also more aggressive and have intimidated my dog on a few occasions. This park at Short Pump has dozens of dogs at any one time, is well-maintained, is friendly to all dogs and dog owners and is large with artifial turf throughout and a gravel area around the perimeter for the #2, which is an ingenious setup. Altogether a great dog park and one we will go to often in addition to the nice small one at Stony Point! read more

This park is so nice they have two, one for the small dogs and one for the large dogs. They have bags to pick up the dogs mess , everyone you meet there is so friendly and such a great place to bring your dog to have activity. There's a children's park right next to it and then they also have a little sprinkler area for the kids to run through. it's a great place, there is even a great pet store across the street if you need some thing for your dog. read more

Obsessssed with this dog park. Turf ground. Adjacent playgrounds for the kiddos. Kind dog owners. And the cutest mix of dog breeds you ever did see. Park for the littles, park for the bigs. Water bowls aplenty. Doggy bags. What more do you want?? Best dog park in Richmond. read more

This review is for the dog part only. It has had a HUGELY massive upgrade since we last visited. There are now benches and a sailcloth shade structure. There is also a retention walled area where trees are growing that will ultimately provide a lot of shady areas. There is a gravel track along the edge and the interior is turf. The nice part about the turf is all the dogs leave clean. We used to come home from this part so muddy and putrified...it is awesome not to worry about that anymore! (I'm not sure how the turf will hold up over time and I'm hoping they come with a big hose to spray/clean it sometimes as there are some yucky spots.) All the times we have visited here we have unfortunately seen some doggie spats. These are expected to happen from time to time of course. Each time we've seen a fight the owners have been right there to help resolve the situation. As a person with a slightly timid dog that has been attacked before, I really appreciate this level of engagement and feel totally at ease about my dogs well being! Word to the wise: Sunday afternoons seem to be packed and a bit overwhelming for some dogs, weekday mornings seem pretty chill. read more

There is a very nice dog park. We took our two German shepherds there on a Saturday around 7am and there were around 6-8 dogs. All of the owners there were attentive to their pets and cleaned up after them. The dog park itself looks newly renovated with mostly turf field, which makes it very nice not having to put muddy dogs back into your vehicle. There is also a water spicket for giving the dogs water and plenty of benches for their human companions. read more

We had a LaCrosse Tournament in the area in early April and had to travel with our two large dogs. I looked for a place to run them after the 90 minute drive and before the games and found this park. What a find! I have never been to such a dog friendly dog park. The people were friendly, the human bathrooms were open and our dogs got exercise and did their business. Would definitely visit this park again and wish there was one like this in our county. read more

Really awesome park, no mud, no mess and very clean for a dog park. It is very busy most days and can be overwhelming for new puppies or timid dogs. The people here kind of suck eggs though. I've had a leash stolen and both of my dogs contracted conjunctivitis here unfortunately due to some unhealthy pups in the park. Pros: Awesome park with turf, plenty of space and lots of potential new friends. Some obstacles but nothing insane. Cons: Egg sucking/mouth breathing dog owners and leash thieves apparently frequent the park so make sure to keep your stuff close. It can be a little too busy sometimes here as well. read more

This review is only for the dog park section. The pro is that it's separated into two sections with one side for smaller dogs and one for bigger dogs. I love that! I wish more parks would do that. However, that comes at a price since both sides are always being used, the grass NEVER grows. It's all just dusty dirt, and that makes for some dirrrrrty dogs :( On hot days, this place may be a nightmare unless you are able to set up some kind of shade apparatus. There is one bench on the small dog side and absolutely no covering whatsoever. Thankfully the water pumps work well so the dogs can always be hydrated but man, even on a sunny spring day I felt the sweat on the back of my neck. I hope someday the city is able to do something about the lack of shade, as that's my biggest complaint for this place. read more

This is a great park for kids. I like how they have all times of swings that accommodate from babies to kids to those that need special assistance. The playground structures also have age ranges on them. My daughter loves the smaller play structure. It's small enough that it is not too overwhelming. There are also picnic areas, a splash area and a dog park. Almost everything to keep everyone entertained for at least an hour. Great fun all around. read more

This park recently updated itself! Adding a splash area and new players! There are swings galore! Pergolas above you while you enjoy your kids splashing away! I was worried when we arrived! That water was off! There is a sensor on the house-like structure to touch and it restarts! Picnic tables are set up under the sheltered space. There is also an enclosed dog park for those of you who have dogs. read more

Great dog park ! Clean. Has turf instead of mulch or dirt which is Great! Has two sides - one for smallerpups and one for the bigger ones

First time coming here with some friends and their dogs and my dog loved it! I will definitely be going back! There's trails to walk around, picnic tables, bathrooms, and 2 fenced in dog parks for small abs big dogs that have water buckets, tubs, sprinklers, and plenty of space to run around! read more

Seems to be a lot of open space for a "park". A lot of emphasis was given to the dog sections, however many dog owners have complained about the lack of shade available. Also....the grass and sidewalk arent even and can make it tough for smaller kids to transition and fall read more

I love this place, very well kept in the dog park area, very clean all around, and very organized. Everyone that i've met at this park was super nice and the dogs were also sweet. The dog park has a hose, two dog pools, a sprinkler, and water bowls. There is shade and there are benches in the shade. The dog park had no mean or aggressive dogs so I felt very safe bringing my little dogs here. Highly recommend this place if you have dogs of any kind! read more

Supersize dog park, excellent kids play area and walking track. You will not be disappointed whatsoever.

This is a review for the dog park- really a suggestion. We love the dog park, we've been on multiple occasions and my dog LOVES other dogs. She is 49lbs and would be considered a "big dog." However we also have 2 cats that she has grown up around and she thinks she is small- even her bark is tiny like a small dog. When we go to the dog park she is always fixated with the smaller dogs and runs with them on the "big dog" side of the fence and them on the small side. She had been doing this the whole time we were at the dog park and we had seen a German Shepard in the "small dog" area and there were currently medium sized dogs probably about 40-45lbs in the small dog section, as well as multiple tiny dogs in the "big dogs" section. Because my dog wanted so badly to play with the smaller dogs, we checked the rules and it doesn't say anything about weight or size for the small dog section, and we had physically seen that day dogs the same size or larger in there, we decided to let her play in there. Literally upon entering there were women saying that my dog was "aggressively charging" at the fence and they they just didn't feel comfortable with her going on there. First of all I have video of what she was doing, it was hysterical and cute and everyone on the "big dog" side was laughing bc of her high pitched bark and the fact that she wanted to play with the other dogs when there was a whole lot of big dogs on her side. I do not know the breed of my dog, she definitely has some pitbull in her but has a ton of other breeds as well; point is she's a mutt. She is also a certified service dog and really should be allowed anywhere and I have the proof but that is besides the point. I think it would really be beneficial to specify what is a small or large dog, maybe by weight because it should not be up to random people to determine where my dog can play. I felt like my dog was being stereotyped bc she has some pitt in her, and fine, I understand I have dog that people get uncomfortable with bc of lack of knowledge and how everyone paints the breed. But we had to leave that day after feeling we were treated unfairly and I don't think we will be back to this location bc the same people frequent. We will go back and she will want to be on the small dog section and those same people will be there. I know it's not the parks fault, the park is beautiful and convenient, but I do think there should be more clear specifications. read more

we love the park cuz my babies loves splash places! It's an AWESOME place to be when you have children!
