This really jumped out at me when I first read it! Being a petite, ethnically ambiguous model living in Grand Rapids, Michigan has made it extremely difficult to be taken serious in this industry! Petite models still are not as respected as tall models. We are basically treated the same as children in the industry if not worse, It's a sad reality. Even more sad is that plus size is being acknowledged so in a world of fast changes, it is still failing us! In fact, I had to venture outside of my own hometown to find my place in this world! Michigan is by far the least open to change then any state in our country! This is a sad fact! I have done my research even before venturing outside of my comfort zone. And what many people do not realize is that sadly, for people like me, we have to go above and beyond those who seemingly have an easy way to just getting signed with any agency! Even with the most Unique or special Look, in the end, it comes down to size and overall appearance for something I can't even control! I can't magically grow a foot or more just to be taken serious and I shouldn't have to, it's what makes me special! It's already a tough world where you have to suck up your pride and take each criticism with a grain of salt! Honestly, I would have been fine had they not even had this listed on their website. I feel it should be removed because they truly don't back it up with actions! I honestly don't feel they stand behind what they say! If you don't want a model to come to an open casting call under a certain height, then just say it! It would have saved me time! I actually respect the agencies that straight up say if you are under 5'5, we can't represent you or the model must be this tall, because I know I wouldn't be accepted! But, when you boast on your website that you are open to any age, height or ethicity then make the model feel like less than a person when she comes to audition and even put her down at the interview, that's not cool! That shows who you really are and I am about speaking out these days! I want to help prevent any other woman from being treated as I was! Here is the best tip I can give an aspiring model from my area! If you can, travel! It's a whole other world out there and it is bigger than Grand Rapids, Michigan! Sometimes, big cities are better for us because they are willing to accept anyone! This agency can talk a good talk but, yes as he told me; a taller woman would look different in the chair I was sitting in but it doesn't make her better than me, just different! I am speaking out for all of us "different people" and we are 'American Girls' too! We deserve a voice & to be treated as peopy! I am excited to start my journey as a model and talent, and who I am ;and to show that height can be "Beautiful" in any size, and that my unique look can be the next pretty face! I was super skinny then and I booked one paid fashion show with them and took walking classes. Jump to 2019 and they get a contract with Nespresso. Cool. I easily book that . They somehow lost the contract with them until this year. I see the gig posted again so I apply. I start taking shifts in August then I booked myself every Saturday in September. I have been looking for another full time job since January. I even applied there for one, was interviewed 3 times and didn't get it...okay cool. They come in to do like store reviews while myself and three other coffee advisors are working different stores. They get a picture with all of them but myself...the black girl. Red flag!! Now, I did accidentally double book two Saturday's in a role, but I explained myself to them. But since they are losing money, they have given me no grace. After all I've did for them for years. I used to talk so highly of them. I've been through a lot personally these last couple of years, some days are just very hard on me. I'm a great worker. But the biggest thing is that I felt left out and all I can contribute that to is the color of my skin. Even the models that are booked that are black are of lighter skin tones.

When we arrived, instead of a physical or electronic ticket, there was simply a checklist of those that were attending. We were seeing a small group from the Lansing Symphony that consisted of harp, viola, flute and percussion. They played a variety of pieces which showcased their talent and instruments.
