We worked with Shorb on a couple projects (so far). They did a bayscape with native plants and grasses, through DC's RiverSmart program They also planted a hedge along our fence to give us some privacy, restored our grass and addressed drainage issues/ redirected and buried our downspout so that it waters the front garden. This was last fall. This Spring we have a beautiful, relatively low maintenance yard. read more

On Monday, November 2nd I was returning from a grueling work assignment working an Election Voting Center to find my drive way entry blocked by Shorb Landscaping truck. Shorb was providing landscaping services to one of my neighbors backyard on the 3100 block of 15th Street NE, which is on the North side of my back yard of my home on Irving Street. No worries I thought, I'll just ask them to back up the truck a few feet and I will be able to pull in. I rolled down my window and asked if they could back up their truck a few feet -- no response. There were about 5 to 6 workers so I thought at least someone would hear me. Since no one was wearing a mask, I put one my mask and goggles, got out of my car and walk to the area where they were working asked and pointed to my drive way if they could move the truck just a few feet so that I could get in. Though all saw my car in front of the truck and looked at me, none asked what was my concerns - I repeated my request to no avail. At that point, I just said to myself "Let me just call my neighbors and ask if they could ask the workers to move". Before I could get back to my car, someone jumped in the truck to move it. Courtesy is important just as service in winning new customers -- my landscaper is retiring soon and I was looking for a new landscaper for service. My yard is 3 times larger than my neighbors, but Shorb will not be on my list -- if they treated me this way what will the do if they are providing me service and impeding access to my neighbors property. read more

This is an unethical company whose employees are reckless with others' property. They destroyed part of our property, acknowledged they were at fault and later would not settle cost of damages. I recommend you take your business elsewhere and we will be reporting the better business bureau read more

Moments ago I had my car washed and parked in Chevy Chase Maryland. Fifteen minutes later a Shorb landscaper blew filth and dirt and all over my car with his leaf blower(Truck #43). I tried to call the office and no one would pick up the phone. My experiences with Shorb have never been very good anyway. My building unfortunately has them as the landscapers and I'm always having to fight for my parking spot. They are abrasive and insufferable when you ask them to move. Five years ago I contacted them to give an estimate for a client of mine. In a very arrogant way,they said they just do the work and bill the client because they really don't do estimates. It sounds like they're so inundated with work that they don't need any more. I'll never refer them again and do will everything in my power to make certain that my building rethinks their next contract with Shorb,since I'm on their house committee. read more

Shorb was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Their design was great and the workers came as scheduled despite awful weather. I felt like they were really committed to making sure every detail was right. I was going through a tough time with my general contractor building our house and it was such great comfort to know that Shorb was on top of everything and I didn't need to worry about the landscaping. We had a terrible experience using Shorb Landscaping for our project. They installed damaged fence and patio materials, and it took several redos to get them to complete the work correctly. Also, after regrading our yard, we now have water seeping into the basement when it rains, which was never previously an issue with this house. I haven't brought this second issue to their attention, because getting the company to respond and schedule work has been so frustrating I'd rather just pay someone else to fix it correctly. I would highly recommend avoiding this company for your landscaping project. read more

IF YOU VALUE YOUR LAWN AND MONEY, DO NOT ENTRUST EITHER TO SHORB. I have been a loyal customer of Terra Landscaping for 12 years. Shorb purchased Terra in 2017. Got a quote for yearly maintenance from Shorb and it was competitive. I did not shop around since we trusted that the same quality work would be done. In addition, we spent $3,000 installing new sod in our house. After following the watering instructions for 4 weeks, the sod looked great. Our account manager complimented us on the sod and said it was now established and could be mowed. This is where the problem starts. Shorb cut the grass when it was wet and left the wet clippings on the new turf. I emailed Shorb and explained this was a problem, but they did not come out. The wet clumps then killed about 25% of our new sod. When I complained, Shorb claimed it was a "turf problem" and that I should pay more for a turf rehabilitation program starting in the Fall. They offered to seed the bald spots, but after asking them to do so, 3 weeks later they still have not addressed the problem. Needless to say I will be looking for a new lawn care company when our contract expires. read more

We recently bought a house in Chevy Chase, DC and one of our primary projects was to landscape the backyard so it would function for our family. John Shorb provided excellent service: extremely responsive, reasonable price, and solid recommendations throughout the process. We primarily worked with Rasma and Todd who listened to what we wanted and were able to offer expertise on how best to make it all work. Rasma's thorough consultation included recommendations for tree trimming to ensure the sod would take hold as well contacts to have our rain garden reimbursed. The team cleared and tilled the backyard, filling it mostly with sod (it was previously muddy and covered with low laying grass/moss). The team not only provided water recommendations but helped set up our sprinkler system. They re-purposed plants in our yard to different areas that were better suited for light and aesthetics and weeded areas that we wanted to leave as-is. They told us about DC's rain garden reimbursement program which we implemented. After Day 2 and a severe rain we noticed a bit of a drainage issue which they resolved immediately. Rasma and Todd's team were friendly and even went above and beyond to make other improvements as needed to make the backyard really standout (added additional gravel to the gate entrance, extended the rock creek drainage and re-purposed healthy plants in areas they would thrive. They also cleared under our deck (removing concrete slabs, old bricks and mismatched stones), leveled it and added a natural stone patio/walk-way filled in with Delaware gravel. The job did extend 2 days beyond what was planned, but given the level of service and finish we would highly recommend them to anyone in the area. We plan to use them again for Phase II of landscaping and hoping to incorporate more features in the coming seasons. read more
