I was very disappointed today when I tried to place an order for the weekend. The woman who tried to take the order was extremely rude. She started shouting what I wanted to order, without asking when, for how many people, or showing me the menu. I asked the manager, but she threw down a pen and paper and hid in the kitchen. I asked an English-speaking person to come and take the order. I don't want to be treated this way. I've been a customer for many years and I'm shocked. I will report this situation to the Labor Department and warn other customers not to deal with this woman (Jasia). read more

We just had the Thanksgiving dinner. Wow, the food was just fantastic. The turkey was moist and flavorfull without being over-whelmed with spices. The the potatoes were light and fluffy, the sweet potatoes were tasty and the green beans were delicious. The stuffing was spiced just right. We purchased the smaller size for 7 and the portions were spot on, with some sides leftover for a couple of meals. The turkey was generous. Everything was picked up heated, ready-to-eat. We will definitely be looking to Shop & Save Market for our Christmas dinner. read more

I really like shopping at Shop & Save Market. So many great choices. Many unusual foods. Good produce choices. Too bad not too many people buy organic, sometimes this can be s bit older. Good polish choices, smoked fish, bakery! The hot foods were fantastically cheap and filling.  Was able to eat dinner for 5.50 + tax and have left overs.  Seems to be your standard European grocery store, prices are competitive. The deli is pretty damn good. But no matter what time you go, no matter how crowded it is, you are 100% going to wait a long, long, long time. More people do not wear masks here than any other store I have been in during the pandemic. It's unfortunate when the customers can ruin a place for you! The produce selection and prices are pretty solid as well - the highlight of the store actually. The meat department is pretty good as well. Regular, aisle groceries? Nah, prices are not good on those. Go in, grab a ticket for the deli, get your produce and meat and any sale items, walk back to the deli and see if they are even close to your number, avoid the ignorant people, and you will do okay. I love this store. They are predominantly an Eastern European store but they cater to the local community wherever they have stores. This location has a huge selection of Middle Eastern goods. I would say its one of the better stocked Middle Eastern stores in the Chicago area. They have another location on Archer in the city which caters more to a Hispanic clientele while having a good Polish assortment. So there's a deli counter which is more European, a meat counter which has Hispanic cuts and there's a halal meat area also. That kind of gives you an idea, you can pick up Polish sausage, halal organ meats or skirt steak for those tacos at one location. The fruit and vegetable section is amply stocked also and likewise you can find European, Middle Eastern and Hispanic items at reasonable prices. You can get quick cheap meals to go during the day. This place is worse than Mos Isley space port. I half expect to see Walrus Mans severed arm laying on the floor as I walk in. The employees have the absolute worst customer service skills in the galaxy. Tuskan Raiders have better personalities and manners. I've been to this place about 5 times over the course of 2 years and it gets worse every time I go. I've even had an argument with the guys that round up the shopping carts here. I'm really glad I stumbled upon this store. They have fresh fruits and veggies at a great deal. I love the huge selection of Polish and Indian foods and drink that they have. My favorite is the pickle bar though. They fresh pickles they make everyday is so delicious! They aren't as salty as regular ones and taste so good. They have a great selection of products as well. This place is a crap shack. I first went there when they opened, 3 years ago, and all was fresh. I was impressed, like anyone else would be. The busling United Nations - like deli, the insane amounts of vegetables, the amazing prices! 3 years later, and the same crap is on the shelf! I cannot walk down a single aisle without seeing an expiration date! If it is expired, they put it on 'super sale' and marker out the expiration date! There is always an amazing sale when you first walk in. Yes, they are trying to get rid of Easter cookies in July. I have brought MOLDY gnocci I found, on shelf, to the service desk. In passing this market with my mom in the car a few months ago, she told me she had stopped in for a few items, but what struck her was she had never seen so many single men shopping by themselves in any grocery store. I laughed. My mom told me I ought to tell my single friends to check this place out, she said the single men were nice looking. My mom is 73 so I thought that was funny. I checked this market out last night after pizza at Joe's Pizzeria in the same plaza. What my mom failed to mention to me, a devout foodie, is that this market is AWESOME! It is large. Clean, always welcome where food is sold. The deli, cheese, bakery and veg table section in the first quarter of the store is arranged in an attractive atmosphere which more resembles Whole Foods more then reasonable priced market. The meat section of the deli has a lot of Polish foods. There was an extensive selection of bacon, hams, sausages of all kinds, among other deli meats. The cheese section of the deli is also extensive. And I did notice nice looking young men shopping by themselves. Mom was right!. The meat section was good for us, since they carry veal, which is difficult to find at most markets. The seafood counter was getting ready to close, so didn't get any fish. The pallets of rice off the meat section was an impressive selection with great prices. There was a good sale going on - for Thanksgiving? on items I actually needed so that was a bonus. There is a gigantic selection of yogurts and butters and spreadable cheeses from Poland in one large cooler section. The cooler section continues with all the brands Americans are used to seeing, along with package cheeses, Kraft ,Sorrento , among others. It seems each aisle has a different ethnic theme-Chinese, Persian, Kosher, Mexican, Italian, it seemed endless and overwhelming last night as I tried to navigate the place. The baking aisle is also very well stocked which is welcome in the Chicago area. The employees I dealt with were pleasant. The check out girl was one of the happiest people I'd encountered in a long time. The prices are well below Jewel and Dominick levels. The selection is one of the best I've seen at any markets in the Chicago area. It is worth a drive, They also have other locations in other suburbs, but not certain where they are located. I come here when I need something quick and closer to home, CHECK FOOD EXPIRATION DATES, even though this is already a must, check it three times. Would have gotten a higher rating if it wasn't for staff. Every time I go grocery shopping, I can easily say about 5-6 coworkers even customers nearly crash into me or the cart. No not a tap, a full on "You're in my way" I'll say sorry as I walk away, while not looking back... Why is everyone is such a rush? Especially coworkers? WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Unprofessional and very rude CASHIERS! I HATE to shop here but just to save time, I stop by this pathetic place before I go home from work. There is no control, no supervision, no improvement for years! Mislabeling is very often (I attached a picture below). When I draw the manager's (an Arabian guy) attention showing the picture, he said "there are countless items in the store and such mistakes happen. That's normal." My parents have been coming here forever but I finally joined in this time. It's interesting because it is very Polish but it also has a strong Middle Eastern influence as well. As for the Polish stuff, the bread is always fresh and fantastic and there are enough cold cuts and sausages and cheeses to satisfy about any Pole! The prices are rock bottom so that is a major bonus considering the quality of food you are purchasing! I love this supermarket! This is a Polish based supermarket however they have every selection of food from across the world. Need Bulgarian juice? Polenta from Italy? Olive oil from Greece? Spices from the Middle East? They have it. They have all sorts of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a huge selection of deli products. I mean HUGE. They make their own Highlander ham, turkey, and our favorite, homemade chicken with paprika. The bread section is also wonderful. Nice, warm bread....aaaah! To top it off, the prices are extremely competitive. I can come out of there with a cart full of food (including meat products) paying a total of $95! This is place is worth the drive! read more

This place needs to check their expiration dates on their own bakery. I went to go buy a pack of chocolate chip cookies and I noticed they were a little shaken and rough in the bag while I was driving so I decided just to open the pack to see if their hard. Of course, they were. I decided to check the expiration date and the day I bought the cookies is the day before the cookies expire. I was so shocked. Also, earlier this year I was shopping around and I found a DEAD yes a DEAD mouse right on the floor. I looked around the place to see if any workers were bothered to take care of it. The produce and deli are always fresh and priced well. The employees always attempt speaking to me in Polish which pisses me off! If it wasnt the closest store to me, i would never go here. This place always smells something horrific and the cashiers are lazy and slow. Always a nightmare to cash out here. Flowers are always half dead in their so called floral section. The cakes are dry and days old in the bakery. I don't make the trek here very often, but with Thanksgiving coming up, I had some major stocking up to do. This week, Shop and Save had a lot on sale, like Miller Amish Chicken and tiny clementine cuties, along with all the staples for a great Thanksgiving dinner. I spent over an hour there, loading up my cart with meats, fish, three Amish chickens, Arabic cheeses, Indian basmati rice, Turkish tea, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, organic milk, chocolates, yogurts, European style breads, pastries, and more chocolates. I was sure it was gonna cost me around $100 when I checked out, my cart was so full of stuff. When the cashier told me it all came to a mere $64, I almost high-fived her. I started shopping here specifically for my dog who eats a raw diet and he needs organ meats, liver, hearts, etc and I was impressed with how cheap the chicken is until I brought it home. The thighs are folded over and look good on the outside but when I unfold them, the chicken has a grey shade to it and smells rotten, indicating they are already bad. This happened once, I figured I just got a bad batch, so I bought more a couple weeks later and it's the same thing. It's now evident that this is a common practice here. My question is where along the process is the chicken going bad? Does Shop & Save buy it at a discount because it's almost bad, and sells it to customers like that at a discounted price? Or do they buy it, and it goes bad in the back before they get it onto the sales floor. Either way, a competent, reputable company would have fixed the issue by now. Also, if you want to gauge how clean a business is, take a glimpse into their fleet of shopping carts. The shopping cart I got had a chunk of hair tangled in the handle with dried beef blood stained across the entire bottom, the cart appeared to be at least 50 years old. When I looked back to see if I had a better option with a different cart, I realized they're all equally appalling. I'm truly amazed at the amount of business they still get. The shopping carts and the lack of any interior structure maintenance, specifically near the registers/exit, ceiling panels missing, etc indicate this business is holding on by a thread and is on the verge of going under, presumably due to its unsanitary reputation, and its complete lack of any care customer satisfaction. They're basically mailing it in at this point and are saying this is what you get, take it or leave it. The store managers deserve to be fired and blacklisted from any future grocery store employment. read more

The store is basically a food museum, showcasing foods from every corner of the globe....only you get to buy the exhibits! Don't even get me started on the smoked meats in the deli.... mmmmmm. I am always buying a different type of smoked meat each visit, and it will probably take me 2 years to try it all, the selection is that diverse. That's not even counting the imported packaged meats and treats.
