My sister told me about Shoott and at first I was skeptical because it sounded too good to be true! She tried Shoott for her maternity pics and shared how the sessions connect you with local photographers in quick 30 minute sessions where you only pay for the photos you like plus have an option to tip the photographer online via Shoott later. My fiancé and I were able to do our engagement photos during our quick visit to O'ahu for wedding planning. I scheduled a session 2 weeks out online. They have a map of the locations plus a calendar online to make it easy for you to schedule a session that works for your day. You get ample notifications via email and the day before your photographer will text you. Sean at Waikiki Beach was professional, knew the area well, skillful in his photos, efficient - just overall a good experience plus communicated well. The only con is that you have 7 days to view the photos and make a decision to buy what you want and then 7 days to download them or the link inactivates. I'd suggest maybe 14 days instead due to some people traveling or it may take some time to make decision but I'm guessing it's to save space on their servers(?) Once you buy the photos, you can download a zip file to your computer, phone - it's electronic and yours forever! They gave us a $20 credit for editing pictures but nothing interested me from the list. I wish there was an option to edit the lighting or vibrancy of the colors vs. just focusing on slimming, blemishes, wrinkles. The prices are affordable with 10+ going for $18 each, 3 for $25 each. I decided to do an early photoshoot for our future Christmas cards this year and saw that Shoott had some openings in October. This was my family's first experience with Shoott, and we had an amazing time with Lydia, the photographer in Diamond Bar. We are a family with two little children (4 years old and 20 months old), so we knew a 30-minute time slot and a location nearby would be the best for us. Lydia made the photoshoot a breeze. She was prepared and took so many great photos of us. My 20-month-old son certainly did not make the shoot easy with his tantrums, but Lydia was unfazed and was so kind throughout the shoot. Thanks to Lydia, everything felt natural and easy. The customer service was excellent as well. I had to change the time of the shoot and they made it happen! If you're thinking of booking with Shoott, DONT DO IT! I had a family and maternity shoot with Shoott in San Francisco, and the experience ended in absolute heartbreak. A week after the session, (when I was supposed to receive my gallery) I was informed that the photographer, Andrew, had a technical issue with his SD card and lost all of our photos, not a single image could be recovered. These were my family and pregnancy photos. A once-in-a-lifetime moment I carefully planned for, dressed for, and emotionally invested in. Shoott's solution? A generic apology and a free future gallery, which is completely useless to me because I won't be pregnant again. There was no backup system, no accountability, and zero indication that this company takes client memories seriously. This isn't just unprofessional, it's careless and unacceptable. They rely on freelance photographers, and based on the experience I had, it's questionable whether those photographers are supported or compensated. It's a terrible business model when you consider the complete lack of accountability and the careless handling of important moments. Please don't do photoshoots with them. It's basically like a scam into getting the photoshoot done for free and then tempting you to buy the package just for the sake of it. We had our 30-minute photoshoot done in San Francisco. Our photographer Johnny captured extremely poor backdrop pictures with very low lighting. Once we got to see the pictures after 5 days, we were very disappointed that the backdrop of the Palace of Fine Arts was not properly utilized, and it felt like the whole process was just to tempt us into buying the full package even when we didn't like the photos. To be honest, after the session we clicked a few pictures of ourselves with a normal camera, and even those photos looked way better than what he clicked using a DSLR. Due to their constant state of chaos with "growth" my accounts have not transitioned from one website or hosting service to another. The photographers have all been phenomenal. I always purchased the entire batch of photos provided. Each and every time I have reached out regarding customer service questions (not even issues, just questions) they do not answer the question and proceed to chastise me as if my questions are ridiculous. Most importantly, photographers that work with them are NO LONGER PERMITTED TO FREELANCE OR OPERATE THEIR OWN BUSINESSES IN ANY WAY. Stay far, far away from anyone who holds you captive like this. After falsely accusing me of reaching out to one of their photographers they "permanently suspended my account." No one needs to have anything to do with them. Shoott offered me an easy and excellent way of capturing an important family reunion. My children who live in Germany were unexpectedly able to join the rest of the family in California for a few days. With one week's notice, Shoott scheduled our group with a polished, professional photographer who captured all of us on film in a scenic spot. Proofs arrived in my inbox a week later; we ordered pictures from a number of great options, and the selected photographs appeared 8 days after that. I was not able to have our photo's done due to Shoott canceling my session due to "extreme heat" - forecast is for 93 degrees where the shoot is set an hour before our set, however this was suppose to be a 30 minute session, and this is from a company that has kn their website to check the weather for your shoot- they photo rain or shine- so you get fee's if it's raining and you cancel your own shoot. I understand it's going to be hot, I had actually planned our clothes for the photos with that in mind now we have to arrange this all over again. I'll DEFINITELY be looking for another company to complete our photos and do not recommend scheduling anything with Shoott- your going to be very billed a fee if you cancel too close to your shoot. ​ read more

This is for the Bay Area in Cali, we recently had a very great experience shooting in the redwoods. The last family photographs we did were 3 years ago and at Blink at Valley Fair mall before they shut down and we were looking forward to updated photos. Shoott's business model is free sessions with local good photographers, you only pay for pictures you want, even if for some weird reason you decide you don't want any. 3-4 days after the shoot you get a link to a gallery where the pics are super-watermarked and really not worth your time to "steal" and photoshop. Jessie C., our photographer, was on time and clearly super experienced. She set up a great variety of shots and different vibes which we loved. The previous session photography we only chose 5 photos, this time we had more than 20 downselected but ended up buying all 153. We would definitely repeat and for other Bay Area people they offer locations in the city, eastbay, and southbay..just check their site. read more

We have used Shoott twice for family photos, and have honestly been very pleased. The website is extremely user-friendly and allows you to easily find a location and time-slot, then book the session. The reminders and communications are very clear (I even switched locations 4 days out, which was no problem). Leading up to the photo shoot, the Shoott team replied to any questions very promptly and professionally. Our most recent photo shoot took place at the Midtown indoor studio with photographer Boris, and it was great! Very seamless. In 30 minutes, Boris captured my family and produced some excellent shots. We also received the photo gallery in a very timely manner, and I purchased a selection of photos with no issue at all. Got our photos back from our shoot last weekend. Honestly, they were about as mediocre as expected. We had very little guidance and direction by our photographer --- she basically said, just do whatever you want. We were not posed for most photos and there was virtually no direction about how we might change how we are looking, standing, ordered, etc. We did not get a single family photo where everyone was both looking and smiling and there was nothing candid about our photos. We had two small children and so I get it, it can be hard to get them to smile, but literally no help from the photographer in that area. In several of the photos, my stepson's shirt is visibly crooked and in many, my younger son isn't even looking at the camera, and in another my mom's eyes are closed! In some photos, people are looking in different directions. Seriously? The photos are supposedly cropped but in one there's our baby backpack in the frame! The pictures are.....eh. Mediocre. Unimpressed. But mostly just disappointed. read more

My husband and I used Shoott for a last-minute photoshoot near our home in Cleveland because we needed additional photos for our adoption portfolio. We were matched with a freelance photographer named Ledio who was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We met him in a nearby park, shot for exactly 30 minutes in three different outfits, and then we were on our way; we had out final photos in hand less than a week later. Amazing! Our photographer was creative, helpful, and friendly, and he helped us get exactly the right poses and vibe for photos we're thrilled with. The process of booking and ordering was extremely easy, and our day-of communication with Ledio made things extra-simple. As other people have stated BEWARE if you have little kids and need to reschedule because of weather! Shoott was very un-accommodating. It had just rained and I did not want to shoot with a 4 month old in the MUD and cold. I reached out a week before and then a day before to express my concerns... they said I'd be charged a $40 reschedule fee. Ok that's fine but then they charged $75!? And canceled it all together! I will not recommend them in the future. The took advantage of already having my card on file. Not ok. Also there's plenty of female owned businesses that operate with integrity please stop using that line a some kind of crutch! read more

I've used shoott twice by now and I feel qualified enough to give an unbiased review. I noticed that many of the reviews here are on the extreme. Their business model is straightforward. You pay nothing to book your photography session which is 30 minutes, and if you're interested in buying any photos, then you pay à la carte or a lump sum for all the pictures taken. They do charge a fee if you buy nothing I believe, or if you no-show. The photographers are pretty average I have to admit. I don't wanna use the word mediocre, and I would say very average at best. We are a family of four and we used to hire a professional photographer to do annual family photo shoot as a family tradition. But as we all know, professional photography is not cheap and it's not meant to be. So instead of spending upwards of 400 for a one hour family photography session each year, I decided to go with shoott and give them a try. If I hate all the photos and find none of them worthy of purchase, the most that I've lost it's just 30 minutes of my time and some of my hopes. Or maybe a $20 no-purchase penalty. Our experience has been generally positive. Our photographers were communicative, and they reached out to us a day before to confirm everything. They do ask for a personal request and preferences, but I'd say don't take it seriously. For something that is so inexpensive, you pretty much get what you pay for. People who complain about the quality of the images may have some unrealistic expectations. These are not professional photographers, and for those who were lucky to get the more experienced ones, you should be thankful. Onto the actual photo shooting. They advertise it for 30 minutes, but I'd say be prepared to get everything done about 20 to 25 minutes max. These photographers book back to back, and they certainly want to get ready for the next one so they may cut your session a few minutes short. Our photographers were kind enough to give us some directions, but nothing specific or directive. We asked for candid shots, and we got none, which is expected. Candid shots take a lot of good skill and an eye for good lighting- and I won't count on these guys to be able to deliver that. If I have to rate the quality of the photography we got, from a scale of 0 to 10, I'd say it's about a 6 out of 10. It would definitely be better than a lay person shooting with their iPhone, but do not expect to get pictures you see in Vogue. Finally, The reason why I think it's worth four stars is because it involves a low risk, low cost, and a relatively easy and communicative process. I've had two different photoshoots with two different photographers, non of them know what is photo composition and a right angle. The photos we received from our photoshoot were by no means professional. They were clearly taken with a nicer camera (as opposed to a camera phone) but outside of that they were not worth the money. I made the mistake of buying them because Shoott sent me an email stating I could request edits once I purchased them. After I did this, I attempted to request edits only to be informed that I'd have to pay MORE for edits. After exchanging emails with Shoott it became clear they made a mistake in the email they sent indicating I could request edits after purchasing the pictures. FYI money you pay is for basic photos, not professional ones. I'm reading the reviews it appears some people were lucky enough to get a good photographer and therefore had a better experience. I say don't bother with Shoott. Get a professional photographer that will take pro pics and edit like a pro. read more

just now NEW I only gave 2 stars because we liked our photographer. Other than that, this service is very misleading. We booked two concurrent free sessions on one account to accomplish two separate occasion pics, and paid the required $100 prepayment, which it says can be applied toward your gallery purchase. They will only apply the prepayment to the second booking gallery, not the first, even though it's under the same account. It does not apply toward the tip either. They kept the remainder of the money, and said that's their policy. When I tried to dispute this via email, they blocked my account for being "disruptive". Will never use this service again. Horrible experience. It takes a lot to get my large family all together! I decided on Shoott because of the great location. When we arrived the photographer was drunk!!! And had the nevre to make a comment about how my family was dressed. I than get a voicemail from someone from New York. She never apologized for her employee/contractors horrible behavior. She did offer to retake our pictures but only gave us 3 places and nothing was close to us. When I told her those dates would not work she just said okay. Horrible customer service and employees. Loved my first and (so far) only experience using Shoott. Our photographer was great. My husband and I are not the most comfortable in being and not looking awkward in photos (we are not part of the instagram generation) , but our photographer was able to make us feel comfortable and gently direct the shoot really well (like communicating poses we should take, etc) and we ended up being very, very happy with the results. We had them taken in Central Park on a very humid day with lots of people around, but our photographer was able to figure out great locations within that location to shoot. She was very interested and committed to making sure we had lots of amazing photos. We ended up buying the whole gallery. It's definitely worth it if you like most of your photos. There are some good deals/discounts that pop up regularly, so definitely look out for these. read more

If I could give zero stars I would, your 9 year old could take better pictures on their iphone 6. I had a custom shoot (of my family) in the suburbs of Detroit, MI last week. The photographer provided no creative direction (landscape or areas) nor did she position us or frame shots. It all felt super awkward for the 6 of us. And stressful for me as I'm asking her what locations or areas have good lighting or would be good for our pictures. We had a one hour session scheduled and were finished in less than 30 minutes - what does that tell you! I reached out to Shoott and was told my feedback would be shared with the photographer and leadership. I received our photos yesterday, 2 business days after our session. I am appalled but certainly not suprised. Most, if not all, images were out of focus. If in focus, images were framed or cropped poorly - if cropped at all (why is there the top of a outside dining chair and a plant in our family picture?). Some images had clear camera shake. Some family members had sun on their faces presenting weird glows while other family members were in shade - in the same photo. Unprofessional! Many images were just blown out - we hardly look recognizable. I could go on. I reached out last night after reviewing our pictures and was told that Shoott reviewed our images and that they were up to Shoot's standards. I paid $300 for an awkward and stressful session for my family and I, and ended up with literally zero images that are usable. To top it off, I experienced the worst customer service. It's unfuriating and embarrassing as a woman to continually see Shoott advertise as a female-run startup....with the experience I had, it certainly feels manipulative. Update: The below email is from Shoott. While they eventually refunded my money, the tone of the email is not customer service-oriented and passive aggressive/rude....but you be the judge. The only reason I'd ever share these images is to show how terrible they are - quite frankly, I'd be embarrassed to share on social media for any other reason! From Shoott: We are so sorry that you didn't have a great experience! ​ We have refunded your $300 as a one-time courtesy. It should appear back in your bank account within a few days. We have also removed your account from our platform, as it seems that our services are not a good fit for your expectations. ​ Since you have been refunded, we would like to remind you that the use of any of these photos is strictly prohibited. ​If we notice that they are posted on any social media platform, you will be subject to a charge of $40 per used photo. read more

Shoott is the BEST! They retouched several pictures for me and the end result was truly magical. The work involved removing objects, smoothing faces, and enhancing lighting. It was a tricky undertaking (in part because the photo was quite busy) and I wasn't sure if they could even pull it off. I certainly didn't expect the results I received. They also seem to nickle and dime for editing etc. I was disappointed, so I'll invest more in a quality local photographer in the future. The photographer assigned to us for our maternity photoshoot was an amateur/inexperienced photographer! I asked him to make sure to not include people in the background during photoshoot but he dint listen! Almost all the pictures have people in the background. Also, our dresses color looks so faded in the picture. Our faces don't look clear in most of the pictures! We had our photoshoot in the Golden Gate park near Flowers conservatory so I was hoping to capture the main attractions there in the background but the photographer was capturing all the other people visiting the park instead!!! I had to keep suggesting him the nice backgrounds throughout the shoot!!! If we had a friend take our pictures, those would have turned out better!!! She wasn't encouraging so we had to get my kids to smile while in the image. I felt a bit rushed and we were instructed to keep doing the same poses but just in different locations of the park.
