Very nice and comprehensive outdoor range. I will warn you however, after shooting here it's very difficult to go back to a boring indoor range. I particularly like the ability to practice with handguns at distances beyond what you get in an indoor range. Also some indoor ranges won't let me use iron sights in the hundred yard range. I'm assuming the people who gave this place five stars have never been to any other outdoor range. Not to say that Shoot Shack doesn't have its charm, but it needs a lot of work. For starters, the road leading into this place is one way but it's very easy to be heading down the road and then someone coming from the other direction doesn't realize and it becomes a mess. Also, I would advise against trying to drive down this bumpy, dirt road in a car that can't handle such terrain. A car got stuck today and they had to pull the car out with a tractor. I'm sure that's not the first time that's happened. As far as actual shooting, it's cool to shoot at more unconventional things like 2 liters of pop and watermelons, but this whole place looks like a giant landfill. And for $15 an hour plus $5 for each additional hour they should totally step up their game. Even just cleaning the place up a bit would make a huge improvement. As it stands now, I don't see the value in coming here when I can go to other much nicer ranges for less money. read more

Some ammunition sold a few targets available and rentals for hearing protection. Always best to bring your own if you're seasoned you know how comfortable it can be not to borrow. read more

I finally made it out to the Shoot Shack back in April and finally getting around to writing a review. Let me start off by saying if you don't have a vehicle that can handle "off road" conditions then the driveway may pose a challenge. I would probably be more accurate if I said that you should only attempt the driveway if you have an SUV or truck as it is very bumpy and a car may bottom out and get stuck. I am sure that someone would be willing to come pull you out but it is best if you know this in advance. Now the staff is friendly and helpful which is a plus since they are the face of the operation when you arrive. The range itself comes across as more of a landfill than a range but that may be due to them allowing you to shoot just about anything that you can bring. I would suggest that you call in advance and ask them prior to bringing your targets (i.e. Tube TV, propane cylinders, etc...). I brought large water bottles and filled them with colored water. This was fun except for the Dumb @$$ next to me who thought that I put them there for her to also shoot. I wish that they would clean up the range and remove the junk that is left behind giving the range a more maintained appearance. The shooting lanes are pretty rough as well but do serve the purpose. They have some covered and some that are not. I will reassess the next time I visit and update/edit my review then. Overall it is a great place to shoot your firearms outdoors. read more

This is a great place to get some range time. I'm a shotgun aficionado and there's alot of places that restrict the type shells you can fire. Not so with Shoot Shack. I can shoot birdshot, buck, and slugs. They allow almost any type of target so long as you remove it if it a large item when you're finished for the day. For example: I like shooting emptied and defective water pressure tanks. I can bring them here and fire away at them so long as I remove it when I leave. They don't care if mil jugs are left behind, but big objects must be removed. It is a very rough facility, as in it's located on farm. There are chickens, pigs, and variety of other animals walking around. If you're one of those people who can't stand using a port-o-john, this may not be your place. There are no brick-and-mortar facilities here, just the port-o-john. There's no water fountain either (that I've seen), so bring your own drinking water. The cost is $25 for the first hour, and $5 each additional hour. Two hours for $30 is on par with most of the local ranges. If you do two hours or more, it's a good deal. Overall, it is the best place in the Tampa Bay metropolitan area to shoot because of the low restrictions on what can and cannot be shot. It would be nice if there was decent restroom, but it doesn't deter me from going here when I want to send some 12 gauge fun down range. read more

Very good no frills outdoor range. Up to 100 yards. Owner is nice. Can pretty much bring whatever you want and shoot it. 2 liters, 12 oz cans, clay pigeons, steel, cinder blocks, paper, etc. Ceasefire every hour to reset targets. One word of caution is that if it rains a lot the day before or the day of your visit, you will need a 4x4 vehicle. Don't expect to drive your low clearance sports car here. You'll either get stuck or bottom it out. It's kind of fun to have a mini mudding session on the way out there. $10/hour read more

I've been out here a few times now so a review is well earned. Out door range is awesome, minus during the summer, damn it, it gets hot so make sure to bring plenty of water. It's awesome you can bring your own targets and its pretty much anything, just check with them before you bring a target to make sure they allow it. We blew up watermelons, water bottles, a card board I brought from work. An old computer, it was awesome. Staff is very helpful. I took my g/f with me one time and one of the staff took her over to another lane away from everyone and sat down with her and went through the process of shooting a .22 rifle. I videoed the whole thing while he did and bam she shot off about 6 shots and didn't even need to wear ears. Next time I went out with some friends and we had about 9 different firearms and we talked with the staff, laughed and I made sure my friends stayed safe through out the day but they gave us our space and just watched to make sure we were safe. I decided to take a look around online and see if I could find an outdoor range somewhere around Tampa that I could try out. I googled it and stumbled upon the Shoot Shack and decided to give it a whirl. The only issue I encountered with the entire experience was an issue with my GPS. My GPS sent me a mile past the entrance and wanted to send me down a dead end street. Not a problem, I had luckily been paying attention and saw the entrance off of Highway 39 as I was driving by, turned around and was good to go. If you're someone who is looking for some fancy climate controlled range where you can rent guns, purchase ammo or anything of the sort this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a down and dirty place to put some lead down range and want to feel like you've been invited onto a friends property to do so this is definitely the right place. The hospitality was top notch. They made you feel like an old invited friend. The range was perfect, and you're able to set up just about anything you'd like as a target minus glass bottles (I made sure to ask so I knew what I could bring on my next trip). The range is cash only, and it's $15 an hour which I very happily paid after getting to fire off some rounds from my pistol and rifle. Coming from downtown Tampa it was about a 45 minute drive but it was definitely worth it and I will absolutely be returning! I highly recommend checking this range out if you're tired of indoor ranges and want to get back to a more enjoyable shooting experience! read more

Went to The Shoot Shack today for the first time, awesome! I have been trying to make time (it's an hour drive) for almost a year. First I'd like to say I love the character of the approach road, if you are intimidated by it you'll probably also be surprised that their outdoor range doesn't have A/C ;-) (they do have fans at every station). Drove up & was immediately greeted by Richard and his daughter, truly warm/kind people. They make you feel welcome, go over a brief but necessary set of rules and let you be. You don't have to worry about some AARP nursing home escapee crying about having more than 5 bullets in your gun or you shooting to fast and I love it. This location is somewhat out of the way. BUT, when shooting, I firmly believe this is what you want in a shooting range. The staff here was nice, they were efficient, and although I'm not quite sure about the overall safety and security procedures they have in place, I did not feel to be in any imminent fear of the other customers that were at the range. The staff allows you to bring your own "things" to shoot up; which makes things fun. As far as I could tell, any weapon was allowed on the range as I saw a cacophony of weapons being handled. If there is any drawback to this location, is the driveway to get from the public road to the shooting range is a challenge at best, and downright difficult to traverse at worst. I would and will return here. This place definitely works for me. Oh, one last thing, it's an outdoor range which, in my opinion, is the best. read more

This is a wonderful country place to relax and shoot just about any weapon. One of the owners taught me and a friend how to use compound bows and we became pretty good with them. The place has some ammo for sale at a reasonable price. The road in is tricky and drive a vehicle that rides high. I have seen them tow a little low rider out of the sand. Range attendants were polite and safe. The other customers were fine. Saw nothing dangerous. 15$ first hour and 5 each additional hour. The last 5 mins of the trip is a bumpy dirt driveway. First off the road going to the range is a two track between two cattle fences. Not really room for 2 vehicles to pass let alone trucks. Second its nice to be able to shoot whatever you could bring but hey it looks like a garbage dump. With all of the equipment around it could at least be cleaned up a little(careful you might have to get a tetanus shot from all the debris). For 15$ first hour then $5 every hour after, some target stands and backing should be supplied. Every other outdoor range I've been to has them (for $20 for the hole day) even Ocala which is free to shoot at by the way. Chip board between each lane was a good idea in theory( very hot no air flow) but at least put some carpet on it to suppress the echo or put screen up instead which would increase airflow. 200 yard station needs some kind of cover instead of being right out in the middle of the sun. Everyone was nice and good atmosphere but the aesthetics and functionality sucked. Expected better. Has potential to be excellent with very minimal work and investment. read more

I enjoyed my time at the Shoot Shack Gun Range!!!! Was my first outdoor experience & I couldn't of asked for anything more from the experience & fun I had at they're range. The people there were very nice and helpful.The owner even introduced himself to & asked me for malt name. Real southern hospitality. The price is great!! You can't beat it.
