I have checked into this hotel over 40 times since my Norwich project started and I think it might…read morebe time to update my review. That number of "check-ins" above accurately reflect the number of days I've stayed. I have stayed in several different rooms and depending on how busy they are will depend on whether or not I get upgraded or just get a regular room. It is a conference center and it's the nicest hotel in Norwich, so it can fill up when there is a special event. (A movie was recently filmed in town so most of the cast and crew stayed here for two weeks.) While the upgraded rooms are nice (I had the honeymoon suite a couple of times) even the standard rooms are clean and comfortable and plenty roomy. Flat screen TVs, a work desk with UK power sockets, a trouser press, bathrobe and slippers, plus wifi that works everywhere in the hotel (not free unless you are Gold or Platinum elite) though it does get VERY slow between 21:30 and 23:00. The staff are very friendly and most welcoming. Once a month is a meet-and-greet with the management, which has allowed me to provide them with some feedback and opportunities for improvement. The 1559 Restaurant serves a continental and English breakfast buffet in the morning and a decent (if spendy) dinner. The Zest Bar is more like a golf club with less expensive entrees and the same selection of drinks and beers. Room service is expensive but good if you have to spend the night in your room on conference calls. Most of the time, the rooms are very quiet and very peaceful. I'd recommend avoiding the '01 rooms as inconsiderate guests who shout in the hallway can be heard in your room. I've also had to deal with the noise from the marquee once or twice, but closing the windows usually solves that problem. As part of a proper golf resort, there is a full 18 hole course which I have not played. There is a nice driving range that has allowed me to burn off a little frustration by smacking little white golf balls off into the distance (or not so far into the distance because I suck!) and the Pro Shop does have "house clubs" you can borrow. There is plentiful parking and it's free. The speedbumps on the drive are awful, so go slow! There are only two things that keep this property from getting that fifth star: - It is a couple of miles from the Norwich city center which means cellular coverage is poor. A taxi from the rail station will run about £10. - The hotel is not air-conditioned. Rooms are outfitted with radiators (that work well) and a three-speed rotating fan (that is great for pushing the warm air around).

Great place to play golf and have a drink in the club house cafe…read more Had brunch here when my parents stayed once. It was excellent. Great looking indoor pool.

The foyer contains black leather chairs, which nicely compliment the bare brick walls of the building. Further inside, the concert room, bar, and upstairs lounge are all prominent and fantastic features. The drinks that the Arts Centre offers are displayed in handwritten, multi-coloured chalk behind the bar, which during the late afternoon is a good coffee place, and in the evening houses a bustling night life. Musicians gather from around the world most nights to perform at the Arts Centre. Locals will sometimes perform in the bar area, but most of the gigs happen in the seated concert room. The Arts Centre can boast stars such as Damien Rice and One Night Only during their very first tours, which is very impressive for such a small venue. A great place to grab a drink, meet with friends and hear some brilliant upcoming music.

The acoustics are pretty good, and the sound technicians are normally good too. The place also has a bar/cafe with some nice drinks, and this makes it a good venue to meet up with friends, possibly before wandering further into the city.

They provided a cot (pack and play) for our baby. Parking is small and food is a bit pricey. If you read on Trip Advisor many complained about this, so knowing this you know what you're getting yourself into. We planned to arrive early and there was plenty of parking. We were going to eat out but after a long day adventuring we decided to eat downstairs. For the price of convenience, I'd say it was well worth it. Would we come back again? YES

Pentahotel Ipswich is wonderfully located within walking distance of the Ipswich train station. The rooms are clean, modern, well-maintained, and generously sized. This is a well-managed, excellent, two star property that is (in terms of relative quality and style) a cross between an Ace Hotel and a Holiday Inn. A few very minor criticisms follow. The free wifi is rather slow (there is a higher-speed, paid option available). Check-in is, oddly, located at the hotel bar so you may need to wait for the staff to finish mixing a whiskey and soda before they can give you your room key. Corridors are slightly dreary. The retro telephones inside the guest rooms, while very hip, are essentially impossible to use. UPDATE - I stayed there a second time in January 2017 and nothing has changed, it's still a great value, well-kept, and centrally located. Really, the only downside is that it's in Ipswich.
