After a tenant tossed a cig butt in the backyard last summer, I got the proverbial three a.m. phone call (which I actually heard later that morning) and rushed over. Of the three contractors who came by to look at the burned-down place, Steve Shook came up w/ the most detailed proposal. I was also impressed by the time he spent with my insurance agent and the adjuster. Long story short, each segment of the re-build, from foundation all the way to kitchen cabinets and clean-up, was handled by different crews or subcontactors, and they were all efficient and responsive, incl. when things happened, which they do. The month of December was non-stop rain, but the guys showed up, completed the foundation work while getting wet, and sure enough, the roof was up before too long. The crew noticed the sub-floor was out of whack, and I was pleased that Shook & Waller came up with a supplementary bid, including finding a good house-raising crew; When I threw a fit over the bid amount (house leveling not covered by insurance), they actually donated some rough sub-area lumber from their yard, to help get the materials price down. Steve Shook and his crew leaders actually worked on this re-build, putting in labor hours which moved the project along. One of the issues I've had with contractors is how removed they are from the work-site, so I was pleasantly surpised by everyone's involvement. It resulted in the home going from burned-down hulk to new home with fresh paint, in a few months. I would recommend Shook & Waller as a contractor who shows attention to detail. They took the stress out of re-building at a fair price, also. read more
