Great company! First off the owner gave me honest advice that saved me money! When I called for an installation he offered one of his employees to come over on a Sunday. Josh (great guy!!!) called before heading over, arrived on time, and performed the installation in a professional manner. He was quite personable, extremely neat and clean, and made sure we understood all functionality of the new garage door opener before he left. You could not ask for a nicer guy! Super helpful! A couple of years ago Sholes installed a very large garage door on our garage that is home to a large sprinter van. After the earthquake in Eureka, we had to release the door to lift manually since we had no electricity. When we went back we couldn't get the garage to lift. It wouldn't budge! We tried everything the manual said to try. We finally called Sholes to have them come for a service call. We spoke with Allen (Alan) and he walked us through problem-solving on the phone. Then he suggested it might have gotten stuck under the header. Sure enough, one person pulled the door back while I pushed the button and it lifted without an issue! Our garage door spring busted at the end of the day on a Friday. We called a couple of places but when we called Sholes he dispatched some young men who were soon here and were able to manually raise the door so we could get our car out!! Last week Sholes sent out Josh to align our garage door. He adjusted it to go up completely, tightened the chain, spliced new wires to sensors, lubricated all rollers, and reprogrammed keypad. Josh did all of this quickly and very carefully. I was very impressed how thorough he was and I didn't expect him to lubricate all the rollers and coils. My wife and I enjoyed talking (about fishing!) with him while he was doing the work. He is very personable and highly experienced for being so young. Guess I'll just add my accolades to the many others of this local business. We tried several other companies before we discovered Sholes. But our crumbling old garage doors were slip-fitted around some built-in cabinets, and no one would touch them. They said we'd have to find someone to remove the cabinets first. But the cabinets couldn't be removed before the doors came out unless we destroyed them. They're nice big redwood cabinets and very useful, so we didn't want to lose them. Tearing them out was not exactly a job that appealed to any of the carpenters we tried to find. We'd about given up when we asked Sholes to come out and have a look at our doors. They immediately said the doors were no problem because they'd simply cut the door runners and framing away from the cabinets. Then they even said they'd do their best to remove the built-in cabinets without destroying them at a slight extra cost -- just their hourly labor rate. So we ordered doors. It took kind of a while for them to get the doors and then get us scheduled -- this is (not surprisingly) a BUSY company! They eventually got around to us and they whipped right through the removal of the old doors and cabinets and installation of the new doors. They made it look almost easy. And what an excellent job! In our old house, nothing is square or level, but Sholes knew exactly how to fit and adapt everything for maximum fit, security, and appearance. They even came back later to install some special weather stripping for us at no added cost. I can't say enough about Sholes's outstandingly professional and productive attention to solving our somewhat unusual installation problems. They were friendly and helpful all along the way, and we simply couldn't be more satisfied or grateful. BTW, it turned out to be fairly easy to remove the cabinets after the doors were down, so they didn't even charge us extra! That's a neighbor, neighbor! If you're looking at new or replacement garage door installation, I can happily advise you to call Sholes first! We purchased new garage doors from Sholes Overhead Door about 5 years ago. We love them. About a year and a half ago we started having an issue with one of the wall panel opening buttons. I really can't say enough good things about Allen and Amanda of Sholes. Our garage door came off the runners and was basically hanging on by a thread. I thought the entire door would collapse inside the garage. I expected to be given a quote of several hundred dollars for a new door and labor. Instead they came out at 7pm on a weeknight and said they could get our existing door operational for $127 including labor, parts, tax, everything. They got the job done in less than an hour and then told me how they could repair our motor (that hadn't worked in 5 years) for $157 instead of us having to buy a new one for $350. Very professional. I wanted a battery backup so the garage door would work even during a power outage. They inspected the existing opener to see if it could be upgraded (it couldn't) and to be sure they ordered the right equipment. It took about a week to get the order and complete installation. Allen was quick, professional and very helpful in setting up and explaining all the features of the new system. Final invoice was just what they'd quoted. They even hauled away the old equipment! We had an old wooden single piece garage door that needed replacing. I contacted Sholes Overhead Door, and they scheduled a free consultation, which occurred within a few days of my initial call. So, nice prompt service there. During the consultation, I told Allen that we were interested in a simple stainless steel door, and Allen discussed with me what would need to be done, since our garage is 80-100 years old and some dimensions were funky. Sholes provided us with a reasonable estimate, and so we placed an order. Sholes provided us with the timeframes to expect for the order to be placed and finished (3-4 weeks) and when we could expect installation; they were already booked out 6-8 weeks from when I placed the order. And that was acceptable. On the day of installation, Allen & Caleb arrived on time and completed the job within 4 hours. And they hauled the old door away. The new door fits & works great, and looks good, too. They had to do some wood work to make it fit, and that work looks good. Bottom line, Sholes provided us with excellent service; they worked quickly and did great work. I recommend them, if you need a garage door replaced. read more

We wanted a panel with windows for our segmented garage door to let in some natural light. (There were none in the 10 year old house we'd just purchased.) Impressively, during the inspection before we bought the house, the inspector noted that the garage door was installed well and moved with less resistance than many newly-installed doors (impressive). We contacted Sholes about adding a window panel to our garage door since they included a sticker on the inside of the door (another good sign of a reputable company -- leaving behind contact info on things they've installed). They let us know that they brand no longer shipped to the West Coast and weren't sure they could get parts. However they looked into it and found that they could get the parts (though they would be more expensive since they had to special order -- about which Sholes was apologetic). At $800 installed, it was still cheaper than buying and installing a completely new door, so we decided to go ahead and purchase the new panel and have Sholes install it. They let us know that it would be a few weeks before they received the new panel. Once it arrived, they came out and installed it in a single day, as promised. The new panel is installed perfectly, matches exactly with the existing panels, and the door works exactly as it did before. They advised me to keep the old panel in case another gets dinged or otherwise damaged. They even threw in for free some frame inserts for the windows (since they had some extras, and, as I mentioned previously, that brand doesn't distribute out here any longer). Couldn't speak more highly of this local, family-owned business. Thanks again, Sholes! We'll definitely work with you again if we ever need garage door work -- and will recommend you to anyone else who does too. read more
