My boyfriend and I came here looking for some boots for when we travel so he has something…read morecomfortable to walk in that are nicer than tennis shoes. This place had a nice selection, but we mainly liked the Heritage collection because they were a little more stylish and he didn't need the steel toe or waterproof stuff. The guy helping us seemed like he actually knew about the boots, (I hate it when I ask a question and they read something off a box or from a magazine...yeah... I could do that myself...) and really wanted to make sure they had a good fit rather than trying to get us out the door as fast as possible. We ended up getting a pair of "iron rangers" (USA made!!!) and he absolutely LOVES those boots! He works a desk job and wants to wear them to work everyday.... it's ridiculous. The only thing negative is it did take a little bit to break them in, but now I think he'd sleep in them if I let him.

I have recently purchased a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers. I love them! However, I have some…read moreconcerns about my local Red Wing Shoes store in Bourbonnais, Illinois, that I think needs addressing. Here are my concerns: 1) I originally went to the Bourbonnais store around 3 weeks ago to purchase some Iron Rangers. They did not have my size in stock. They advised me that they could order my size, but if I didn't buy them, then I would have to pay for shipping both ways. This was disappointing, and didn't seem like they were acting in good faith. Instead I travelled to the Red Wing store in Downers Grove, Illinois, where I was very pleased with the customer service. I purchased my Iron Rangers there that day and I am a satisfied customer in this respect. 2) I was told by that store in Downers Grove that I could take my Red Wing Iron Rangers into any Red Wing store once a month for a free cleaning/oiling. This appealed to me because I live very close to the Bourbonnais store. Today I went in to receive this promised service, only to be told by this Bourbonnais store that they would not do it for just any Red Wing boot, but instead only the boots purchased from their store exclusively. This disappointed me and failed to meet the expectation that I had after being promised this from the Downers Grove location. 3) I then asked the worker at the Bourbonnais location if I could buy the leather dressing product that the Downers Grove Red Wing store had used, because it made the boots look fantastic. I advised the store worker that they had used the leather dressing that had beeswax, amongst other ingredients, in the product. The worker said that he didn't know of such a product sold by Red Wing, and instead insisted that I needed to buy the boot oil for my boots. I then walked up to the main display case and found the boot leather right away that I was referring to. It contained pine pitch, mink oil, and beeswax. The worker was surprised that the store had such a product. I was disappointed that the worker was not adequately knowledgable about the products being sold in the store, and did not make an effort to search for this product to accommodate my specific request. 4) I then brought the leather dressing to the register to purchase it. It had a price sticker that said that it was $9. The store worker rang the product up, and told me my total was $13 and some change. Confused, I asked how much the product was. He advised me that the computer registered the product as somewhere around $12 plus tax, and was surprised to find the price sticker on the can itself that said $9. He then quickly stripped the sticker off the product, crumpled it up, and clearly told me, "I guess I'll give it to you for the $9, I don't know why we had that price on it." He then did a search on his computer, after which he advised me that they had recently increased the price of the product. Then, much to my surprise, he repeated that the sale price was $13 and change, thus going back on his word that he would sell me the leather dressing for the posted price of $9. I was disappointed that the worker went back on his word. I want to make clear that I am not dissatisfied with my boots or with the Downers Grove location, only the Bourbonnais location. As the aforementioned 4 points explained, I have consistently received sub-par customer service from this location, not to mention that this store worker, whose name I cannot recall, has a pattern of using a rough tone and was abrasive in his demeanor. Red Wing has a better reputation than this Bourbonnais location is representing.
