I legally started a small business and was clueless about accounting or taxes. I had a rather detailed expense and income spreadsheet, but that was all. I contacted Shockley in April 2022 to do my taxes. I admit that I was sweating it. Wil Sutherland at Shockley Bookkeeping and Tax Services did the best job for me! I have been telling all my friends about him. He put me at ease, perused my documentation, and then handled my taxes like a professional. He even found a refund for me! Yea! In my opinion this is a very bad place to do business. I also feel that they are not very knowledgeable and don't have the customer's best interest in mind. In 2022 I had one of their Sr tax consultants help me with a non standard w2/tax issue. Their consultant was helpful and provided a written letter to do document the situation and provide to my employer. He also said that in 2023 we would have to correct the issue. Fast forward to 2023 I tried for 2 week to get ahold of the tax consultant to complete this issue. He never returned my calls. I even tried to talk to a receptionist and she could not get ahold of him. She advised that I come in to see one of the Sr tax consultants. I went to the appointment and explained what happened and the situation. He repeatedly said that there was nothing he could do, even after I provided a copy of the letter from 2022. After about 10 min of this and explaining the situation multiple time the Shockley staff keep saying not to blame him or get mad at time. At this point the rude behavior was more than I was willing to take, so I got up and left. At this point he used profanity and followed me to the door of the business verbally badgering me. He continued to badger me even as i was getting in my car. By advising me on a course of action and then the next not help does not leave me feeling that they are capable or knowledgeable about their services. Carri and her team are excellent! Not only do they take great care in doing your books and taxes properly, but they give sound advice and keep you informed on new tax regulations and things you can do better in the future. Personally, I was frustrated with my previous tax service provider. I felt uninformed--even when asking questions. Carri helped me get my business set up in QuickBooks to make my small business books much more efficient and more easily trackable. Then, her certified tax specialist helped me prepare my taxes. I left with a full report of what she did and what she recommended for the next year. I now have confidence in my books and know that my taxes are being done properly. BEWARE! I was deceived by Carri Shockley when I was told in person on February 12, 2021, that my startup business was a perfect fit for her company. Today, December 20, 2021, I received an email from Carri that my business is not a good fit for her company. I have to agree because over the course of this year I have only received two monthly reports on time. Most were only delivered after I called and emailed several times asking for them, more than 30 days past the close of the accounting period. During this "service" period, my account manager was changed without notification. I found out my account manager was no longer with Shockley Bookkeeping when I received an undeliverable email response one of the many times I was checking in on the delinquent reports. I gave Shockley Bookkeeping several chances, even though Carri has always been in complete denial of any lack of accountability. If this review gets a response, Carri will certainly not hold herself accountable for failure to deliver the services. It is December 20th and I still have not received October or November accounting reports. If you are considering Shockley Bookkeeping, my recommendation is to look elsewhere. Closely read the one-sided service agreement. It is very risky as it is set up as autopay and does not state when or what services will be delivered. It all sounded great when we discussed it in person, but when it comes down to it, it is a risky arrangement, and Carri is not nice once she has your payment method on file.
