After 2 years and 4 months of poor services and performance I am finally speaking out due to Next…read moreGen breaching their own contract and refusing to resolve or even address the issue. I have a 4 page engagement letter/contract signed on 4.10.20 which detailed exactly what was discussed in my consultation with Owner/CEO Cindy McGhee on 2.11.20 which specifically states that my annual tax returns are included in my package. On 8.2.22, I finally received a response about my first and only tax planning meeting to prepare my tax returns after weeks of no correspondence. I was told I would have to pay $3310 to get my taxes filed even though tax preparation is included in my contract (attached below). I assumed it was an error as they historically try to bill for services that are included so I sent my contract to remind them but they are still refusing to complete my tax returns which are due next month. On 11.17.21 I made my first complaint regarding ongoing problems I had been experiencing. Cindy chose to issue 3 months of credits instead of fixing the issues and now is trying to recoup those "credits" under the guise of tax preparation fees. She also claimed I didn't pay in full for 2021 so I requested my accounting detail and it shows every month in 2021 paid EXCEPT for the 3 months of credits issued and authorized by Cindy McGhee. I've had several calls and emails from Cindy McGhee apologizing for the poor performance of her team but never herself however leadership starts at the top and you should never call your clients and throw your employees under the bus especially when 4 staff later, the same issues exist. Staff turnover is a direct reflection of leadership. Here are some of Cindy McGhee's responses via email: "I got up to speed on your file today and I am so incredibly sorry that you have been frustrated. I completely understand why that is and wanted to step in personally to make sure we can get it resolved. First, it sounds like we've fallen short in applying the tax planning services for your businesses. After digging deeper, I can see where the communication gap existed between your tax team and your accounting team which has created the frustrations you have. First, when we fall short, we do not expect you to make payments. If we don't earn our fee, we won't assess it. Given that, we will be issuing a credit to your account." This was sent on 11.18.21. And then her latest response/LIE " It is our policy to bill prep fees separately and we cannot extend an exception to this policy. This was sent on 8.2.22. I've paid more than $40,000 to Next Gen and have learned more from free consultations, incubator and nest collective programs and social media posts than I have ever learned in more than 2 years of being a Next Gen client. I was forced to seek out this information after Cindy McGhee refused to answer questions or provide long overdue memos that had been promised to me since obtaining her services in 2020. I've called multiple times and requested multiple meetings with Cindy McGhee and only had one on 2.10.22 which was a zoom meeting which she rushed off of due to a family emergency and never followed back up with information or documents even though requests were being made. It became apparent that I was being taken advantage of due to being a first time business owner and my loyalty to supporting #BlackOwnedBusinesses by not going public and trying to handle it internally ad nauseam. After seeing her social media post on 7.11.22 which is also attached below, I decided to try once again to see if she would honor her own contract. Surely she walks it like she talks it. It took more than 2 weeks for her to respond which is typical and her emails clearly indicate she cares more about her own greed than having character and integrity. As a Black community advocate, activist, leader & socialpreneur who provides free consulting to other start up Black entrepreneurs, this is a literal slap in the face. #BlackWallStreetMindset does NOT exist at Next Gen. #BlackExcellence or nothing.
