Wohletz Farm U-Pick - Fresh picked strawberries!

Love love love this beautiful Kansas farm. I am updating an older review because I've learned that…read morethey have retired the strawberry fields and picking, which is a bummer. They still do blueberry picking in June, so keep eyes on their socials and website. Maybe it's the Kansas in my blood, but it's really, really beautiful around this farm (much more so than nearby Missouri farms). Rolling hills, green tree canopies, dirt roads and big sky all while being surprisingly close to Lawrence. This farm was such a fun experience to pick strawberries at, and I'll go step-by-step in just a sec, but I have to shout out that I really appreciated the simplicity of this experience. Some of the u-picks and pumpkin patches go overboard with cheesy rides, hastily-made plywood games, etc. Some may love those, I don't always. I prefer to let the nature and friendly people around provide the fun, and Wohletz shines in that regard. Bring cash! That's important and while the berries are priced fairly, you don't want to be stuck with a basket you can't cover. Again, we gravitate to this area a lot anyways, but the rural land around Lawrence really is a special place. I'm just now realizing we drive up this way for strawberries in the spring, trail runs in the summer, pumpkin picking at Schaake's Pumpkin Patch in the fall, and cut a Christmas tree at Strawberry Hill Tree Farm in the winter. Enjoy Wohletz and if you miss their prime picking season, they are also available at the OP Farmers Market on most days!

What an amazing place for some family fun! There are acres and acres of blueberry bushes. This farm…read moreopened in 1975 and has been delighting children and adults ever since. I have been going for the last 30 years and have seen many changes but have never left disappointed. The patch normally opens mid June and highly recommend calling the Picking Report before heading out. If going with little ones, take a wagon or backpack carrier for them. Little fingers can't pick very fast and tend to get tired. They have a wonderful bakery with delicious muffins for sale and a general store with all kinds of jams, bakery items, honey and anything blueberry related. If you didn't pick enough, you can also buy "We Pick" berries, but calling ahead to reserve is recommended. Lots of picnic tables to enjoy baked goods or picnic lunches. Walking can be challenging on the gravel surfaces, but for anyone with difficulties can drive to the farther fields. There will still be walking involved and no hard surfaces.

Just a short drive south of Overland Park, I cannot believe what a great place this is for picking…read moreblueberries or buying them already picked. Rows upon rows of blueberries! Katelynn provided excellent friendly service and was very knowledgeable when answering questions. The store...they have so much stuff in the store! Honey, all sorts of jams and pickled foods in jars, Kurzweil's Country Meats, Amish food items, toys, gifts, and blueberry slushies and ice cream. Play area for the kids. Great outdoor experience for an individual or family outing. Pricing is reasonable and they do accept cash. Plenty of free parking. Call for hours because what is showing on Yelp is not correct.

Such an adorable orchard! I really don't understand what these people with the negative reviews are…read moreexpecting. The atmosphere is quiet and laid back. I was amazed at the never ending rows of apple trees - this place is huge! They do charge to go pick the apples, but it's only $5 and that gets you access to the whole farm which includes: you-pick apples, corn maze, pumpkin patch, kids play area, wagon rides, and more! If you are not up for that, there are pre-picked apples in the market for sale and you don't have to pay the entrance fee. I also didn't do any of the kid's play things or ride the wagon and I found the $5 fee absolutely worth it. I would pay that just to walk the premises and take it all in! The whole place is beautiful. Plus, for however many people are in your group, you get that many pounds of apples free (my husband and I got 2 free pounds). There's just nothing like a fresh picked apple straight from the tree! Even the most expensive apples at the grocery store do not compare to the flavor and the experience at Pome on The Range! I highly recommend a visit and I have told all my friends and family to check this place out! ;)

The trees here are well cared for, the staff friendly and helpful, plenty of picking tools & wagons, and the price is right! Once you're done picking, make sure to browse their little store and sample some of the apple wines. Apple Red-Raspberry makes a great spritzer with club soda! The homemade dried fruit chews (little log shaped things covered in coconut) make a great snack for the drive home too. Try the apple pie flavored one, you won't be disappointed.

What a cute little farm!! This place has a farmers market feel that you can't beat!! I went out to…read moreget pumpkins for Halloween and try to get them from local farms instead of chain stores. This farm was about 40 minutes south west of my home in KCMO and located right off the roadway. My wife and I were greeted by one of the neighbors who helps keep an eye on the farm and run the register for the stand. They have plenty of live berry bushes and small trees in the nursery part of the farm and so many pumpkins. You couldn't walk five feet without finding more pumpkins!! They have a cute little building which houses all the canned jams, jellies, honey, and syrups that they have available. My wife and I spotted some peach and blackberry jalapeño jam and I was hooked!! Who doesn't love a little kick to their morning toast? They even had a small corn maze in the back of the farm for kids. As well as a sizable bonfire pit set right next to a stream that looks like it's amazing on cool autumn nights. They have a rabbit, three donkeys, and a cat who wonders the property. Being an animal lover I couldn't resist saying hello to the donkeys. One was rather happy to see me pick up the brush and pet him for 10 minutes while the other two eyed me down. When we were there it was quite and peaceful as we were the only customers. Talking with the lady who helped us she said "wait until tomorrow and this place will be full". She went on to tell us that it's mainly busy with school trips during the week and that on Wednesday they had a kindergarten class come through to learn and make their own cider. Did I mention that yet? You can schedule a hayride and make your own fresh squeezed cider!! If that's not a reason to get some friends together this fall then I don't know what is!! If you're looking for a cute intimate farm to get your fresh pumpkins look no further!! This place is worth the drive.
