It's a bit of a process to make a appointment. There are several gastroenterologists in the group…read more When you call, you get an answering service that asks to you select which doctor's secretary you want to talk to. So right off, it appears as if they assume you are looking for a specific doctor, not trying to get initial help from one that's available. when you press a number corresponding to one of the secretaries and, instead of talking to a secretary, you get another recorded message telling you to leave a message and they will contact you within 24 hours. I didn't have a specific doctor in mind, so I left a message with one of them. They did call be back within 24 hours and the secretary was polite and helpful. I was able to work out an arrangement for an appointment.

Dr Wilmot appears to be an intelligent, respected, and effective doctor at what he does…read more I suppose there must be a balance somewhere and unfortunately that downside is that his communication, people, and empathy skills are sub par. I took my mother in for a visit and during the 45 second exit conversation he had with us, he came across as defensive and emotionless. You might think, "I don't really care how he acts so long as he medically attends to my issue". And for some I'm sure that's fine. Clearly it is given his locations reviews.. but for me, the personal touch is also important and he completely lacked this skill. I don't recommend entrusting your care to him if the human connection is even slightly important to you. If AI ever creeps into the medical field, Dr Wilmot might need a new profession. Luckily, ai machines appear to have more warmth than mr Wilmot.

I've taken a long time to review this as I have very mixed feelings about it…read more I had one horrible agonizing attack, and knew something was very wrong. I Googled gastroentrologists and found this place. I couldn't get in for 2 weeks because of COVID. By the time I had my appointment, I had pretty much figured out what my issue was, so I knew what results I was hoping for from my appointment. Keep in mind at this point, I could barely eat anything. I was only eating yogurt, fruit and salad. We went over the events of the day of my attack, and my regular diet, etc. She was extremely critical of me being a vegetarian, and wanted me to start eating fish. Again, at this point i could hardly eat anything, and I've been a vegetarian all my life, so it's not something I'm going to change. She said "it's nice to have morals, but you really should start eating fish". It's nice to have morals??? Geez. And that's not how morals work... I had to flat out tell her that I wasn't going to eat fish. She started to sort of come up with other options at that point. She even had a rant about me eating at Corelife and said they add unhealthy things to salad. She then realized I was vegetarian again, and got on board with that. Kale is kale, lol. Anyway, I was here for an urgent health concern. Not a diet makeover. So I asked if eating these things was going to help my issue. She's like no, you should just eat like this going forward. What!? I need immediate help right now! In the end, she did send me for an ultrasound, which was what I was there to get, and it's how I eventually had my surgery, which is what I urgently needed. I actually ended up in emergency surgery because I couldn't get anything scheduled fast enough due to COVID. So, in the long run, it did get taken care of. But it was a strange experience, and dismissing vegetarianism because she didn't like it was unprofessional. It was very strange how my issue was addressed, or was not really addressed when it's why I was there. I wouldn't recommend coming here. But I don't have another gastroentrologist to compare it to, so maybe it could be worse?

If I could give no stars I would. Dr. McFarland was supposed to conduct an ERCP today; however,…read morethe procedure was abandoned due to a "periampullary diverticulum." Unfortunately, Dr. McFarland did not have the decency or the courtesy to discuss the failed procedure with me; instead, he sent some nurse to my bedside to say it was "incomplete." This is outrageous for several reasons, the most obvious being that the nurse either could not or would not answer any questions. But more importantly, had Dr. McFarland read the MRCP report, which has been in my chart since September, he would have known about the diverticulum, because it is clearly described therein. So, he either did not read the report, which would constitute substandard care, or he did read the report and decided to conduct the procedure despite the physical obstruction. The result was a brazen money grab. After paying a medicab $250.00 (plus tips) to arrive and depart from RGH, I still have the same condition I arrived with. In addition, I have a sore throat and a big bill for a useless procedure that exploited me to the financial benefit of Joel McFarland. (Needless to say, I will not pay said bill.) PS Upon hearing of this complaint, Dr. McFarland's colleague, Jason Gutman, called to defend him: "We don't always get things right. Sometimes we fail." Clearly, this is one of those times. Caveat emptor! PS. The nursing staff was no better. Shannon L Frye and Elizabeth B are two millennial snowflakes prone to tantrums with the intellectual capacity of Larry, Darryl, and Darryl. No wonder I left as soon as the anesthesia wore off!
