I went to Shish in the late summer after driving by the patio many times. The restaurant is small but has a fair amount of seating and has a young and fun feel. We ordered at the counter and the waitress quickly brought us out order outside. I ordered the fancy hummus and pita with chicken swarma and was amazed at how big the portion was. The flavors were unreal and the dish by itself was amazing. However, the pita really took this dish to the next level! Being able to scoop the delicious meat and flavorful humus into a soft and warm piece of pita was delicious! In knowing this isn't available all of the time, being able to sit outside was wonderful and really elevated the experience. The food is a bit on the expensive side but is DEFINITELY worth a try! o lo read more

Their menu is expansive, so give your first option a try! They also have breakfast fusion options. The restaurant is decorated nicely and elevated my experience eating Mediterranean food. Plenty of seating to share with friends. Water is self-serve and food was brought out at a decent time. read more

First time here for a birthday lunch. I didn't realize you ordered at the counter and take a number, like at Panera. No table service. It was very busy over the lunch hour. Food was good, although I was a bit taken back that my piece of chocolate cake was $13.95. A piece. Not the whole cake. I would go back if I was in the neighborhood but would not specifically plan a trip. read more

We came here at the recommendation of local people who use them for catering in the Twin Cities. Close to Macalester College. It's like you stepped into a middle eastern home and they are making you a meal (we went for breakfast). The food was unique and delicious. Tons of vegetarian modifications available on the menu, but make sure you ask for it. Ample seating. Lovely ambiance. Ample street parking when we visited. Total win! read more

Shish serves really quality middle eastern food every time! I love the falafel and hummus bowl and the dolmas are excellent.

Ordered takeout through yelp and though the food was a little bit late it was incredibly delicious! The server was nice and the food was warm. The decor inside is cool-nothing too fancy. I believe you order at the counter and then sit down and they bring your food out. I'm excited to go back and try it in person! read more

All I can say is SHIIIIIIIIIIIIISH. Great food, reasonable prices and a welcoming environment. The staff is helpful and the food is made quickly. The only downside is the street parking with little availability. read more

The food was delicious and the service was friendly & fast, what more can you ask for!? One thing that I like a lot about the Gyro meat that is served here, is that it's flavorful and not dry. The potatoes were well seasoned and crispy, and the fresh fruit helped balance the overall breakfast. The spinach pie is a must get! The wrap to filling ratio was perfect, the pie was crunchy and not too greasy. Make sure you save room for dessert, because their desert selection is out of this world! It's been a minutes since I've been back to Shish. Strictly street parking, interior has not changed in 7 years. I ordered online for pick up and everything was prepared quickly and on time. I ordered the hummus plate and upon eating the hummus and gyro it was quite salty. I love Mediterranean food and was hoping to make this my place again, but I was a bit disappointed it was salty and not what I remember. read more

The food at Shish is always very fresh and delicious. Our whole family loves the Maza Mix. And every time I try something new on the menu I find another favorite! I've been eating at Shish for years because the quality is always there. Garlic sauce is life! read more

Wow. This was delicious. I've been here a few times and have loved it each time. Ordered delivery today and it came a bit cold (as expected), but was delicious nevertheless. My love and I shared this (hence the giant platter we but it on) ..and I'm embarrassed to admit there weren't a lot of leftovers. The fragrance taste of the spices are phenomenal. Would certainly recommend. We got the Shish Maza Mix (appetizer platter), falafel burger with fries, and the roasted vegetable bowl. read more

Been going here for years, love the food and the campus atmosphere. Ordering in person for takeout can be a bit dodgy getting the order correct, but we've never had that issue ordering online. Be sure to try their desserts. read more

Great option for fast casual dining in Minnesota. We were going to dine at the establishment next door but the wait was too long so we opted for Shish because they were able to seat us immediately. The menu is fairly simple and lots of options for various diets. My husband ordered the falafel plate. He enjoyed it but he felt that the rice was not as flavorful as other rice plates we've enjoyed at other mediterranean places. I ordered the chicken swarma and side salad. The swarma was AMAZING, i mean it was SPECTACULAR! I loved the moistness and the spices. Delicious little magical goodness that I would come back to over again. There is a kids menu with plenty of options for their picky diets. I remember there were fries involved and not a lot of food left (*which I would say is a win). Thanks again for the great lunch and I hope to be back soon! read more

Really great gyros. Delicious food and very reasonable prices. I just wish they had delivery. I always have to go pick-up.

We were in the mood for Mediterranean food and decided to place an order to go from Shish! We had chicken shawarma pita with fries, falafel and hummus. The chicken shawarma was amazing and a generous portion size - so stuffed that the filling was falling out. The fries weren't my favorite and were a smaller portion size that what I would expect. The falafel and hummus were good as well. This is an order at the counter, get a number and sit down kind of place. The line was a bit longer than what I expected but was worth the wait. The space itself was cozy and cute. Shish will definitely be my new go to for Mediterranean food in the cities, can't wait to go back! read more

I ordered carry out and arrived a little earlier than expected time. I waited about 7 minutes which wasn't a big deal and my food was handed to me. I got home within 5 minutes and the food was lukewarm at best. Had to heat up in the microwave. Food was adequate at best. Would only return for hummus. read more

Came on a Wednesday night around 7 and there were a couple tables occupied but not too busy at all. You go up to the counter to order and then they bring out your food. In addition to the Mediterranean menu they also had a bakery case where they had some dessert bars and cake by the slice. I got the chicken shawarma pita with fries which ended up being close to $10. The food came out pretty quick. The pita was packed with chicken! The chicken was very tender and flavorful and the tzatziki sauce balanced out the chicken really well. Only negative was that the pita was super messy to eat so I actually ended up just eating with a knife and fork. The fries were just ok for me. They're the thinner style which I don't prefer and they had a sour-ish seasoning on them that I wasn't expecting and I'm not sure I liked. Overall, I'm happy with my meal. I won't be rushing back but if I'm in the mood for Mediterranean food, I'd definitely keep shish in mind. read more

I flew 1500 miles to Minnesota. I'd come back for this food and this food alone. The service? Impeccable. Kind staff, well timed, no complaints. The atmosphere? Great. Loud, conversation heavy, densely populated urban ambiance. The food? Phenomenal. Truly delicious stuff all around, with a wide enough variety to satisfy anyone. read more

Shish makes the best falafel in the Twin Cities. We got their falafel wrap ($10) which had excellent pita, super-herbed and spiced falafel and sesame-rich tahini. The side of french fries ($2) also were fabulous and seasoned with some herbs (rosemary?) that took these into serious flavor country. Their hummus side was ($5) perfectly respectable, but curiously not at the same level as the falafel. On my second trip, I got the falafel burger ($10) and foul medammas ($10). The falafel burger is more boring than the falafel wrap; the sauce is different and the falafel patty is too thick and bland. The foul medammas wasn't bad but didn't blow me away. Shish labels all its vegan items, but there are discrepancies between its website and the menu shown in the cafe itself. The staff isn't super knowledgeable about the issues, so it would be great if they standardized things and had clear answers. read more

Great food! I met up with some friends, one of whom says she swears by Shish, and I can see why. This is an ostensibly modest eatery where you order from the counter and they bring your food to your table. In our case there were four of us; the first two to arrive were hungry so we ordered right away, and we had our food before our other friends even arrived. What I'm saying is that the service is VERY fast. You can think of this as a place to get some Mediterranean-style grub quickly. And everything was outstanding! I was a little indecisive between all of the options, so I got the "Trio", which was three different skewers of meat on a bed of rice and vegetables, plus a side salad. Kind of pricey, but a lot of food and it was so delicious I can't stop thinking about it. Every zingy bite of meat tasted great on its own, plus there was a garlic-y dipping sauce that made for a nice, simple twist. My friends really enjoyed everything they got, which included falafel that was gobbled up rapidly, and Mediterranean-style burgers. We hung out for hours, actually, and I wound up going back for a slice of very nice cheesecake. There was a little chocolate fudge chunk in the cheesecake. That is excellent news for all of us. I will DEFINITELY return to Shish. read more

Great food, and well organized operation even when they are very busy. Been going to Shish for over 20 years, and was bummed several years ago when they switched some from of the middle eastern classics to bowls when that became trendy, but more recently they brought back all their great entrees and sandwich formats, I'm pleased to report. read more

Shish is a solid spot if you're in the neighborhood and hankering for a gyro or some falafel (best in its burger form). Shish is a counter-service joint that primarily slings gryos, shwarma, falafel and a few other Middle Eastern/American dishes to nearby college students. Nothing really breaks any molds, but it's consistently satisfying, reasonably priced and generously portioned. Takeout is also easy when ordering via their website and they appear to be doing a lot of it right now in these Covid times. read more

I took my family here because it showed up in halal search for Minneapolis. Website has no mention of it but on the phone call they confirmed. We confirmed again upon arrival. Once again, no signs for halal but staff (after asking around) do confirm. Please, if you are coming here for halal do your own confirmation. That being said, restaurant was packed when we arrived and very busy. Staff was super nice and friendly. They even let us stay for almost 45 min after closing since we arrived only 30 min before closing. Food was really good. We will definitely come back. read more

Nice little spot on Grand, stones throw from Macalester College. I've only ever ordered take out there - to be honest I rarely eat at restaurants so this is a perfect fix for when I forget my lunch or run out of leftovers to bring to work! I can get a falafel pita that is extremely filling (and vegan) for about $8. It is huge and fills me up! I've also gotten their super baba ganoush & hummus and again, the portions are hearty for the price. One time I added fries to my pita as a side for $2 and it was a huge portion, great to split between two people. Falafel WrapThey have some nicer dinner like items on the menu but for me, it's the perfect lunch spot though you could have a nicer meal here. And with COVID 19, you can order online and when it is ready they put your food in a bag labeled with your name in a shelf near the door. If they're busy you can just grab it and go, otherwise it's probably nice to tell them your name and grab and go - quickly and with a mask, please! Please order direct from their website - they have an easy form on their website and they are very accurate with the time (such as if you want to order ahead for a particular time). read more

Shish was okay. Went a while ago and remembered that the burger with garlic aioli was delicious so we came back. I got the chicken shawarma bowl with a side of fries and my boyfriend got a chicken shawarma wrap. The chicken shawarma was okay...not as good as other places I've had it and my boyfriend's wrap was literally oozing from how much juice there was. Fries were really good and service was friendly, but if I were to come back, I would order something else (however, if I have a hankering for meditteranean, I wouldn't feel compelled to return here). A positive aspect of the place, however, is that it's a casual spot with big portions. read more

Very tasty Indian food delivered quickly. Relaxed atmosphere where they prepare your food, and you need to grab it at the window.

Shish has a chicken shawarma that is straight fire. It is truly so, so good. I went today and got the Shish breakfast with shawarma and it was so, so good. Get the bowl with saffron rice and shawarma (but the gyro meat also slaps if you're so inclined). Shish is a consistent winner. read more

Shish - Shish Breakfast - Middle Eastern Near Me - Saint Paul, Minnesota

This was an average dining experience. We had a gyro pita and a chicken shawarma pita. Both of them were overwhelmed with sauce, almost too much sauce. It was all over the place. The flavor profile was off for me, and left me with the impression this was a weak attempt at creating fresh Mediterranean food. Which leads me to the tabbouleh salad for which I paid $4. It was dry and bland. The worst I've ever had. Makes sense because the date on the bottom of the container was from six days ago. That is not fresh. This was a one and done for me. read more

Wowza it's time for an update. 2 days shy of an 8 year old review. So this is my go to gyro spot for this area. I say that as there are a few other choices all very close by. There is the Naughty Greek(yum) & Zait & Za'atar(the old Lucilles which I haven't had yet. Both close earlier) and the Black Sea residing on the north side of 94 and University. This is also one of my favorites but again, is on the other side of the freeway. It may not be the easiest spot to park when busy but I went later and was able to park right in front and walk in. I like the options available (salads to desserts and everything in between. I considered falafel but opted for the gyro pita. It was perfect. My sauce, tomatoes, some onion and lettuce. No fries, just a gyro that so hit the spot that I ended up not even eating all the pita since I used it more as my plate. You ever see a dog that has an itch and they start scratching?
