We recently purchased a beautiful male GSD from Shiraz Farms after getting a reference from an acquaintance. Leigh and Roger were more than accommodating, allowing us a couple trips to visit the farm and meet some of their dogs - ages ranging from 4 weeks to 16 years. All dogs were in great health and had even better temperaments. At the time, Shiraz had two litters and once the pups hit 8 weeks, we came back to the farm to choose between two males - one regular coat and one plush coat. We instantly took to the pup with the longer hair and brought him home. Their vet happens to be located near us, so we have used her since we brought "Jango" home. And although the vet only sees Shiraz puppies in their first few weeks until they are sold, she also owns one of Leigh and Roger's pups and has great things to say about them. We chose Shiraz Farms because of the exceptional movement, beautiful coloring, and even-tempered personalities of their GSDs. If you are interested in the same, you owe yourself a visit. If you're looking for an exceptional GSD with great temperament and intelligence. Shiraz GSD'S are very well bred. They have a thorough screening process to insure the right pup is selected for you. They are absolutely fantastic. I contacted them about getting a GSD and they were extremely helpful in helping me pick out the perfect dog. I got a puppy from them but it didn't work out with my other 2 Goldens (my boy is just too old and grumpy now LOL) they worked with us to return him and even gave us a credit towards a dog in the future. I've told several people about them and I'll say what I'm telling you now, their dogs maybe pricey but you get what you pay for. They really care about their dogs and their dogs are probably the best GSD's you can buy. I just wish I was more active to be able to handle a GSD in my life, so I'll just have to be lazy with my Goldens LOL. All kidding aside, the really are world class and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value. People should know a couple of things about this place. HORRABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE & SUPER UNPROFECIONAL! They see their dogs/ puppies as a "$", they do not care what so ever. I got my dog in June 2015. When I was trying to pick the puppy, the owners were really impatient, rushing me with a pushy behavior. Getting a new companion, a new family member is not the same as buying socks at Walmart. I was blown away. I did take my time, but you could feel their energy. When I finally got my dog, on the first day they had him on medication for a spot on his face that had no hair. They told me "That's normal for puppies, just give him this medication". I asked them if his parents ever had any skin problems, they told me they never had any issues. The medication did help and everything was fine untill my dog turned 6 months. My dog started losing his hair, he was super itchy to the point of pain. I took him to the vet right away, they gave him antibiotics to take every day. I reached out to the breeders seeking help and advice but, the only help I got, is them saying that they think that he may have some allergies. They then said if I wanted to return the dog and decide to get another dog, they would give me some discount for it. At this point, I was already attached to my dog and I cared for him, so this was a ridiculous statement! How do you just dismiss a dog just like that?! How is this helpful for your customers?! This is how much they care for the dogs they breed. I did a lot of research online and found a dog dermatologist. My dog is on three different types of antibiotics every day with plus he is getting customized shots every week that he will be on for the rest of his life. Putting all of this on the side. My dog is great, well trained, and is a family member so yes, we will do whatever it takes to make him feel better, but DEFINITELY not buying another dog from this place. FOR ALL FUTURE BUYERS, CARFELY DO YOUR RESEARCH, ASK QUESTIONS, AND ABSOLUTELY TAKE YOUR TIME. MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO FIND YOUR LOVELY PUP ELSEWHERE. read more

We love this breeder!!! We got 2 german shepherds from this breeder. One was a puppy in training and the other was a 2 year old male. We are such lucky fur parents. OUr babies are amazing smart and loving. Heidi was already crate trained and almost house broken when we got her at 10 weeks old. And Kaiser was crate trained and house broken. Such a handsome boy. WE are so happy with our babies. I would highly recommend them. I am german and was so impressed on their love and devotion to these animals. ANd they make sure they are going to good homes. I write this review as a fyi for others considering purchasing a puppy from Shiraz Farms. I too, am a small business owner and understand the power of an online review such as this, but feel that the owners of Shiraz Farms did not step up and do the right thing in our situation. We purchased a puppy on Aug. 18th who began to cough less than 36 hrs after we got her home. After a trip to our vet, he asked that I call the breeder to determine whether any other dogs at their facility were coughing. I told the owner's daughter that our puppy was coughing and that our vet considered her to be underweight. She stated that had another dog coughing but that the dog was treated with antibiotics and was better. She disputed that our puppy was underweight. The big issue was the cough. As of Oct. 1st, our puppy was still not healthy and had been under a vet's care non-stop since we got her home in August. She required multiple visits to our vet but did not respond to antibiotics used to treat respiratory infections. What everyone thought had been a fairly normal respiratory infection was not that at all. She began to quickly decline and it was recommended that we take her to the Charleston Veterinary Referral Center for acute care. After a tracheal wash under anesthesia, it was determined that the puppy had pneumonia and required 3 separate antibiotics to treat her infections. This whole situation was like a slow speed train wreck -- and my feeling is that we never had to be in the situation at all. When we originally saw the puppy and committed to purchasing her, the owners told us that she would be transferred to their training facility to be crate and leash trained. We were charged for her time being crate and leash trained prior to picking her up. The training facility was Dogs Downtown in Chantilly, VA, where Shiraz Farms trains numerous dogs, both those from their own farm as well as those owned by others. Our puppy was not fully vaccinated when we picked her up at Dogs Downtown due to her age, and was therefore susceptible to multiple bacteria infections that would have come from exposure to those numerous dogs. When I contacted the owner to discuss our situation and to request reimbursement for the cost of the puppy after the puppy was finally healthy, she out of the blue stated that the puppy had only been taken to Dogs Downtown the morning we picked her up. I had not asked that question. I asked Shiraz Farms to reimburse me for the cost of the puppy only, not for the vet bills. The vet bills in our case were over $5000, and I considered my request to be fair. This review is not about the temperament or conformation of our puppy Gracie, because now that she's healthy it's clear that she's going to be a great dog one day. This review does however call into question the decisions made by Shiraz Farms both in their handling of a puppy not yet fully inoculated as well as their treatment of a client who was trying her best to do the right thing by an animal and to fix a situation neither she nor the puppy deserved to be in. read more

We got our girl River in May from Shiraz and we could not be more pleased. She is a beautiful dog; gets all the attention everywhere we go. They asked a lot of questions about what kind of dog we were looking for and matched us with the perfect pup. She is gentle, intelligent and beautiful; everything a German Shepherd should be. We purchased our GSD from this kennel only to have it die of cancer at a very young age.

This breeder is incredible and trustworthy. Not only do they take care to meet with and ask questions of potential GSD owners, they are responsive and impressive as a whole. We were worried about HP and put the question to Shiraz directly with plenty of documentation and informed assurances of the quality of our pup's hips which we still have and rely on In addition, our GSD is cared for by military veterinarians who are skilled in dealing with GSD and Belgian Malinois who undergo the most rigorous training. At every duty station, we've been told how well-bred, built, and intelligent our dog is. Our dog, Schatzi, has been the most incredible gift to us and we were given her based on Shiraz Farm's very careful interest in what sort of dog we were looking for. Not only is Schatzi beautiful, she's smart, disciplined, talented, and loving. We can't say enough about Shiraz Farms and how confident future GAS owners should be in trusting this breeder. In addition, please know that this breeder is straightforward and honest when it comes to giving one of their precious GSD pups to someone. We purchased male gsd 4 years ago , good tempered , good color , I am purchasing one more from them.

We had an awful experience with them. We purchased a female German Shepherd puppy from them about two years ago. Less than six months after having this puppy, she was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. She had no hip socket or ball on one side, and she was already displaying symptoms of hip dysplasia on her other hip. She had to undergo surgery twice to carve a socket into her hip and attach a ball onto the same hip. When we called Shiraz Farms, they refused to help out with any of the cost of the medical care. They offered to trade a new dog for the one we had already bonded with. God knows what they would've done with her. I mean, seriously, no German Shepherd puppy should have severe hip dysplasia at the age of eight months. We were appalled with them, and they acted completely surprised and said that they had never had this happen before. Yeah right, you've absolutely never had this happen before?! After this experience, thank God my in-laws are completely convinced about not getting purebred animals anymore. I tried to convince them ahead of time, but they insisted on getting a purebred German Shepherd. Thanks Shiraz Farms for turning my in-laws onto adoption, rather than purchasing another genetically mutated animal.And thanks for draining them of several thousand dollars with a defective animal. This poor dog had to be crated with minimal movement for over four months. It was pure hell. Do not purchase a dog from these people. read more
