Sometimes life gets so hectic that I don't stop and smell the roses. I find myself so focused on what's next or what I have to do later in the day to get one step closer to generational wealth that I just don't sit and enjoy the present moment. Pier C Park brought me straight back to present time. Standing on this little hill floating in the Hudson River, I could see the entire New York Skyline. A quote from one of my favorite books echoed between my ears: "I would give the greatest sunset in the world for one sight of New York's skyline...The sky over New York and the will of man made visible. What other religion do we need?" I tend to agree. I just sat here for a bit, smelling the roses for the first time in a while. How lucky am I to just sit here and be able to look at this? The will of man made visible. SHOUT OUT TO PIER C PARK! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

At the end of last year, I felt extremely unfulfilled with my life. I was working a 9-5 job that is…read moregreat and paid the bills, but gave me no real fulfillment. I had no real purpose in my life other than writing these silly reviews in the morning before work. I don't even know why I love it so much, but I do. It's my little creative outlet. This passion for writing slowly trickled to a passion for making videos. So, at the beginning of this year, I made an agreement with myself that I would shoot, edit, and post between 150-200 videos no matter what. I don't care what thoughts were inevitably going to creep in to try and talk me out of it, I'm doing this. Kobe Bryant, my childhood hero, put it best when he said "I'm not negotiating with myself. The deal has already been made. I signed that contract with myself. I'm doing it." All this to say, I've been on an absolute SPRINT this year. I'm exhausted and drained, but it's been worth it. I started the year with 5,101 followers, and today (Aug 6th) I have 75.5k. I hate judging things off of follower counts, but it is the best metric to depict what success looks like doing this. This past Sunday I was damn near bed ridden sick, but I heard Kobe's voice in my head so I dragged myself out of bed to Hoboken to go do another video. I got off the Path train and started walking, when I turned my head to the right and saw one of the most beautiful views I've seen this year at Pier A Park. A huge grassy plain, with a full view of the New York City Skyline from nose to tail across the Hudson River. It felt like a green screen. It made me pause and be present for the first time in awhile. I've been running so fast at this goal that I haven't really appreciated the journey at all, but this view forced me to stop and smell the roses. I just sat here for 30 minutes thinking "damn life is so beautiful and human beings are amazing." It reminds me of that allegory in the Alchemist when the wise man tells a boy to go explore all the marvels of a magnificent palace, but instructs him to carry a spoon with two drops of oil without spilling any. The first time he comes back with all the oil but misses all the beauty of the palace. The 2nd time he comes back having seen everything there is to see, but has no oil in the spoon. The wiseman concludes by saying "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never forget the drops of oil on the spoon." You're probably like wtf is wrong with this guy hijacking this review of Pier A park to trauma dump, and that's fair. I'm a little crazy for sure. Shoutout to Pier A park though. It's nice to stop and smell the roses every once in a while. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Here are some facts I found out about the Highline - The original High Line (elevated railway) was built because people kept getting killed on 10th Avenue. Specifically they were being hit by the trains that ran down the tracks on 10th Avenue, which was also known as Death Avenue. They removed over 100 tons of steel railroad tracks from the High Line. Some of them were laid down again as design features of the park. The inspiration for the High Line was the Coulée Verte René-Dumon in Paris. The Promenade plantée (French for tree-lined walkway) or the Coulée verte (French for green course) is a 4.7 km elevated linear park built on top of obsolete railway infrastructure in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, France. It was inaugurated in 1993. The soil beds on the High Line only contain about 18 inches of soil. Friends of the High Line wanted the park to be sustainable, so a complex network of filters and drainage systems on multiple levels collect, store and redistribute rainwater to the plants. The High Line was almost demolished. Friends of the High Line was founded in 1999 to advocate for the High Line's preservation and reuse as public open space. Over 720 teams from 36 countries entered the "Designing the High Line" competition in 2003. The design entries were displayed at Grand Central Terminal. The High Line is also one of NYC's most popular places to experience outdoor art and sculpture. There are 11 entrances, including wheelchair‑accessible ones at Gansevoort, 14th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th Streets
