The one that drew my attention was the maple bacon donut. People have mentioned price...these donuts are worth that price. One donut alone is quite a large portion for the average person...which is a problem because you don't want to eat just one. The maple bacon...where do I start. The perfect combination of sweet and salty...the nice crunch of the bacon on top of the sponginess of the donut... delectable! That one alone will keep bringing me back. They have a great variety overall. They appear to swap out certain flavors...while maintaining the regular stable of glazed donuts. This location also serves up shakes and smoothies, which I have yet to try. If there was one detail...the recent times I've gone, they only have 1 worker, and if there's a line, it drags. The one worker will focus entirely on just that one order...which is fine. But no greeting from the worker...no "I'll be right with you" type of reply. That would be my only gripe.. The resounding taste of butter in the near bread told me of the quality was on par with any I had enjoyed before. Biscuits are not difficult to make, but doing so consistently is important. Then we tasted the dark brown gingerbread pigs, known as "puerquitos", which were gloriously fresh with a dusting of confectionery sugar. I was impressed again and the subtle taste of piloncillo found its way into every taste. While it's mildly unfair to review a place based solely on its takeout, El Fenix made a very good impression on me, and I look forward to visiting in the near future.
