Sausage with Cheese and Jalapenos Kolache
Levette D.

The flazed donuts are absolutely mouth watering delicious. So good I want another one now. I also enjoyed the jalapeno kolache. Didn't care too much for the boudain but that's just because I don't really like them so I can't hold that against them.

Drive-thr(o)u(gh), parking lot, palm trees, and, of course, donuts!

This donut chain, Shipley Do-Nuts, is one of those local Texas chain institutions that, despite not being off the charts for what's interesting about them, are good in a practical and repeatable way. On this list, I'd include Whataburger, H-E-B, and especially Buc-ee's. (Now Buc-ee's might be out of the ordinary in a stratospheric sort of way.) This Shipley is in a tidy store on NASA 1 Parkway, across from the Space Center tourist complex. There is ample parking. Make sure that you put your blinker on because, like major thoroughfares in burgeoning Florida cities, NASA 1 Parkway is another one of those racetracks with frisky drivers. I went in and bought two donuts for breakfast, and then had tea bags around that I poured hot water over. While I like Dunkin' (Donuts), their prices are a little higher than Shipley prices. It's nice to be able to walk out of a Shipley having paid under a dollar per donut, a psychological price point, with taxes included. The chocolate and strawberry donut I had were very good. They were gone in a flash. As for the service, they don't fuss over you, but the employee helping me was quick, given that there were other customers in both the store and the drive-through. There are many Shipley Do-Nuts (I don't get this play on words) in the greater H-town area. I would see one near a freeway, think about donuts, and thought I'd pass because the on-off would be tough ... and so would the neighborhood! So, then, why not get your Shipley fix in a clean store in a nice area? In that regard, this Shipley location fits the bill.

First time trying Shipley's. Good prices and the staff was friendly. Clean location with fast service. Donuts were decent. I was told to hit up this place while in Houston. Wifey and I enjoyed the chocolate glazed.

Storefront at Intercontinental Airport

This review is for Shipley Donuts' kolaches. I had one at Bush Intercontinental airport on the way home, and just posted it onto the Shipley's in the Clear Lake / NASA area of Houston. There are apparently 77 Shipley's in Houston, and they are a staple for the area, as are the kolaches. I had a sausage and cheese kolache this time, and it's basically like a breakfast hot dog encased in bread. They are of Czech heritage and kind of a novelty when one is in Texas. I lived in Houston for 4 years and have had them in past, but I can't say that I've run into them as a commonplace food item anywhere else in my travels, and it is a decent breakfast item. Shipley's is also well known in Texas for their donuts but I didn't have any this time. This kolache was $1.73 at the airport, but suspect it's less at most other stores.

Rat Feces in our do-nut. Very Disappointed

Hands down Shipley's has the best donuts in the world. I dream about the glaze donuts frequently.

I could not miss the chance to visit: Bonnie's Donuts. One reason was thanks to social media and it was on my mind whenever I had the chance. Walking in was a breeze and walking into your local donut shop. Very much a family atmosphere. I was happily greeted and had so many options to choose from. But one thing for sure was the legendary 5 lb cinnamon roll, which was off to the side shelf, and the frosting was brought from the back before I checked out. Of course I also had to try the glazed donuts and grabbed a crème brûlée cronut as well. I did not get a chance to try the cinnamon roll or the cronut but the glazed donut was in the best way to describe it "mouth watering soft" I knew this was going to be amazing after that bite. Overall my visit to Bonnie's Donuts was exceptional. Initially I came in just for the cinnamon roll but left a fan of the business overall. Bonnie and family are great and I felt very welcomed. She did ask if I was planning to eat the cinnamon roll right away or later? She was very informative and teaching me how to reheat it and the same for the frosting as well. What was also nice was the additional donut fritter included. I definitely would recommend it without a doubt as your go to donut shop if you are family local donut shop. I just wished I wasn't living so far to regularly come in but when I am in the area, I would choose this versus any other place by far. *small note* Now I'm not sure if this is scientifically proven or because this was a very specific day, I had left my donuts in my car for almost half the day. But I decided to grab another one at night, it still tasted just the same as I got it in the morning but the glaze was more thicker. Because typically, donuts would harden up and the glaze would clump up but not this one. That automatically gets my seal of approval.

These aren't your average donuts--these are mochi-style, which means you get that perfect balance of crisp on the outside and that delightfully chewy, stretchy bite inside. Think hybrid between a donut and a soft rice cake--but better. I tried three flavors and each one delivered not only in taste, but also in presentation: Strawberry Pocky - The pink glaze is rich but not overly sweet, with a mellow fruity flavor that pairs beautifully with the crisp strawberry Pocky stick laid across the top. It's playful, photo-ready, and honestly a fun one to start with. Cookies & Cream - This was the most indulgent of the three. The crushed cookie crumbles on top add a nice contrast in texture to the soft mochi base. The glaze is creamy, with a subtle vanilla-oreo vibe that doesn't overpower. White Chocolate + Chocolate Drizzle + Star Sprinkles - This one felt festive and nostalgic, almost like a vanilla birthday cake remix. The red, white, and blue stars added crunch and charm, while the white glaze and chocolate drizzle gave it that extra richness. Each donut is a satisfying experience--not overly dense, just the right amount of sweetness, and incredibly fun to eat. You can tell they're made fresh, and they hold up well even after a few hours (if you can resist that long). Friendly staff, clean shop, and flavors that rotate regularly? This place is definitely going in my dessert rotation when I am in the area.
