This was yet another place our shuttle driver recommended. We went yesterday around 4-4:30 (the posted hours said they close at 6) but they were already closed. We were disappointed, but made sure that we went even earlier today. I had a glazed donut and it was really good. It was cake like but didn't feel heavy. I don't remember a lot about the interior because I was so focused on the donuts, but I would definitely recommend this for great donuts. We ordered a dozen donuts but by the time I remembered to take a picture, some had been eaten. read more

Don't come here if you're looking for the traditional Shipley donut taste. Not sure what they are doing to the ingredients. But everything is different. The Do-Nuts do not have the same consistency. The donut holes were turds in icing. The kolaches were super bready and the hot dog was a bad spice to it. Most of the donuts we had were a bit over cooked and dry. And we were there at 530am. Bummer all around. read more

Great service and delicious donuts. We were so excited about the donuts we ordered and how delicious they were that I forgot to take pictures. I did take pictures of their donut holes which were soft and fluffy on the inside just like their donuts. These were gifted to us when we mentioned it was our first time trying their donuts because we were visiting the area from Florida. Quick service, above-average donuts, below-average (cheap!) donuts! Shipley is always reliable for good donuts; they don't have fancy flavors but also don't cost $3 each like some places! While they have many branches, Shipley's are going to be a better bet than, say, Dunkin Donuts. read more

As a part time Galvestonian... This is one of my favorite go to's when we are in town. Staff is always friendly, inviting, and the donuts are amazing. As a black coffee drinker, this is the classic black coffee the donut houses are famous for. I don't know if there's anything much better than a donut and a coffee in the morning especially from the Shipley donuts. I've met the owner a few times and he is a very nice fella. For me, Shipley's is the number ONE place to go for Doughnuts. Their selection is tremendous and the do-nuts are melt-in-your-mouth wonderful. I particularly enjoy their cake glazed with a fresh cup of coffee - nothing better on this planet. You can't go wrong with these folks!!! Worst donuts and kolaches I've ever had from a Shipley's. My hubby and I stopped in on New Year's eve morning on our way out of town. First we were accosted by the "homeless" guy in a wheelchair who asked for a strawberry filled donut. When I said ok (doing my good deed for the day) he asks for chocolate milk, I got that too and got 2 donuts for him. I'm hoping his were better than ours. I got 2 sausage and cheese kolaches and 2 with jalapenos and 1 cream filled donut. The kolaches were hard on the outside like they were over cooked. They were a little darker than normal but, when I bit into mine and the sausage tasted old like these were yesterday's kolaches. The cream filled donut tasted like chemicals and was not fresh at all. I will not be going back. read more

I grew up in Houston Mary Lee's, Duncan, And Awesome Shipley donut shops!!! Other places inside of grocery stores anyplace else but this is the Worst!!! Been here several times prior.... was in drive-thru middle of afternoon nobody at the window so I got out the truck & walk inside, waited till owner walked up & said "can he help me" told him "I'm in drive-thru, He walked away & said someone will be there. He was the only one and didn't help me! Never been back!! If you're wanting donuts there is one further down Broadway or off 61st. going toward Beach. read more

The owners of this Shipley's should do themselves a favor and drive to the Shipley's in Houston at 610 and Ella to see how a store should be run. Even if I lived in Galveston I would still drive an hour to literally any location before going to this one again. Cold donuts, poor customer service, everything is made at 4am and there's no turnover so don't expect anything to be fresh unless you get there before 6. read more

I have a confession to make. I don't think that Shipley's is the best to happen to mankind. GASP! Oh, the horror! In fact, I don't even think it is the best thing to happen to breakfast. Blasphemy you say? Perhaps. But today's experience has not swayed my decision. Let's get something straight. It is really hard to screw up donuts. I mean, you really have to try. And since the process is generally the same wherever you go, you'd think that you could expect about the same thing regardless of the type of donut shop. And for the most part, you'd be correct. However, I happen to be a filled donut kinda gal. I especially love the creme filling that just oozes out. And if it doesn't ooze, it isn't done right. What's worse is getting almost halfway through the donut and not coming across any of this oozing business. I mean, I'd just figured that they'd forgotten to fill the thing. Nope, they'd just been stingy. The rest of the donuts fared better, but I'm still not impressed by the not so great customer service, long lines, and somewhat elevated prices. I doubt I'll be back to this location, especially with so many great mom and pop joints in the area. read more

Hot, delicious, fresh, light and fluffy donuts served by a very friendly staff. There seemed to be a lot of regulars so we knew it must be good as soon as we walked in. We ordered a dozen mixed donuts and just let the staff pick out the flavors. Took them back to our condo and our group had them gone within minutes! Would definitely recommend this place. One otherwise boring Saturday morning my wife and I decided to find the best donut shop on Galveston Island. We purchased standard glazed donut holes from each establishment to compare. Shipley Donuts ranked an average mid of the pack when it came to our donut shop quest. There is really nothing there that stands apart. The menu contains the same basic assortment of donuts, kolaches, and drinks as all the other donut establishments here in Galveston but is a few dimes per item more expensive. The donut holes were okay, though the dough was the chewiest of all that we tried. Being that Shipley is a known franchise in the greater Houston area I assume that many out-of-towners go to Shipley because of little more then brand recognition. I think it was because of this that we experienced the rudest customers (not staff) during our brief time here although I can't fault Shipley Donuts for this. Given the choice, however, I would drive to the other donut place on Broadway. read more

I believe in the diversity of people and that there is a perfect donut for everyone. That being said I agree with the prior reviewer that the failed donuts at this Shipley's are just OK. The cake donuts are actually substandard (the batter is slightly too thick and the oil temperature too low to produce the ideal crispy crunch). The cinnamon twists and raised donuts however are great. That being said, the star of the Shipley's show are the kolaches. The bread dough is perfect. The sausage is amazing. A day old Shipley's kolache is great. A fresh warm one is a dream come true. Having kolaches for breakfast at this Shipley's at least once each time I come to Galveston is now a tradition. read more

Worst one ive been to honestly. Girlfriend wanted donuts as her once a month cheat meal. Disappointed with the window girls poor customer service and cold ass donuts. Blueberry cake was cold and flavorless. Donut holes were cold and so was the chocolate ice. Take some pride in the Shipley name. I hate giving bad reviews but it was a sad day read more

Desired coffee and a donut, however I only purchased a donut due to the attitude of the employee "serving" my fiancé and I. She was very dismissive, short, and unsanitary as she was biting the skin near her fingernails while we asked about the donut selection. Will be heading somewhere else for coffee and will likely not return to this establishment again. I'm sure she's not the owner but a refresher course in customer service would be appreciated. read more

Donuts were good donuts...nothing super special. We did get a half dozen glazed, a pumpkin cake, a butterfly (cinnamon roll), and a blueberry jelly filled donut. We got a bag of holes to eat on the way back. We went to the Donut Palace the day before and their glazed were much better. Also this place could've cared less if we bought anything here. Between Dawn Donuts or the Palace...I would rate this place a distant third place. read more

Super yummy donuts....had a chocolate frosted, and strawberry frosted, at .70 cents they are a steal. The associate that looks like Selena was super friendly, and provided wonderful customer service. Definately a must stop on a trip to Galveston. read more

So when my wife suggested we make this our final stop before leaving town, I was just kind of along for the ride. It turns out, the ride was amazing. I was visiting NYC a few months earlier and went to a place that was wildly considered to have the best bagels in the city. They were perfectly fine but not really remarkable. But GBC served the kind of bagels we were still thinking about the next day. I think it was the softness that really separated them. Said softness was easier to detect from the snickerdoodle bagels we ordered with strawberry and honey butter cream cheese. Both were no doubt 5-stars. But for my "main course" was the Pelican Island, which was a hodgepodge of deliciousness all crammed betwixt two blueberry bagels. I really enjoyed it, but if I returned for a second visit, I would order something else only because there were like ten other things I wanted to try. There were several people waiting on orders that had apparently already been picked up. It seems like the pickup process could use some improvements. I think adding clearer signage to direct guests and having one employee dedicated to managing the pickup area and traffic flow would make a huge difference. I also think staff should verify pickup orders with a confirmation code or order number before handing them out. I also paid extra for cold foam on my coffee, but I was simply told they were out. I wasn't offered a refund or a substitute. It's a small detail, but if customers are paying for an add-on, they should either receive it or be given another option. Overall, the bagels are excellent and absolutely the reason I'll come back. The staff was friendly despite how busy they were, but the pickup process and communication around unavailable items could definitely be improved to match the quality of the food.

I got a t-shirt too that I wore for years until it was ultimately retired. I actually wrote a Yelp review about it that I deleted. In it, I said "The smell of the waffle cones filled the place with smiles and enjoyment. I knew I wanted a waffle cone." What a terrible critic. He will never be Yelp Elite. I haven't been back to Hey Mikey's since then, just because I haven't really been back to Galveston in some time, but my memories of the unique ice cream flavors and toppings remained. Heading back to Galveston for a cruise, I wanted to try and make a stop there again for nostalgia's sake. Instead of heading to the Airbnb, my girlfriend and I drove straight to Hey Mikey's as our first stop in Galveston. We got there around 8:45 pm, which was 15 minutes before they closed (our fault). This is no diss to Hey Mikey's, but almost everything else on The Strand on a Thursday night closes way too early, so it felt like everyone was at Hey Mikey's. The line was extensive in front of us and behind us even after it closed. After waiting through the line for quite some time, I got a waffle cone with their cereal milk ice cream, which had Fruity Pebbles in it, topped with Lucky Charms. They gave it to me with a temperature-changing plastic spoon that turned from yellow to purple when cold. The ice cream was sensational. What an incredible flavor. The only downside was the waffle cone being a little stale, but I fault that to it being a waffle cone ordered right at closing time. The next night, I returned with my cousins and ordered a cup of cereal milk ice cream with Cocoa Puffs as the topping instead. Fantastic stuff. Once again, being there too close to closing meant we had to wait, and we didn't get our ice cream until 9:30, a full 30 minutes after they closed. It was nice that they still served us though! One thing I did notice, which I don't know if it's a normal thing, is that since Hey Mikey's is the only ice cream shop open past 8 o'clock on most weeknights, they seem to get a lot of foot traffic after that time. Their menu is pretty large in its offerings. If it were just scoops of ice cream, the line would move fast, but so many people were ordering shakes, which are a lot more labor-intensive and removed a staff member from their assembly line to focus on the shake. I don't have any advice on how they could easily move the line in the later hours of the night, but man, those kids are working their butts off for everyone to get their late-night sweet treat. Hey Mikey's, you are just as good as I remember.

There a few tables inside the establishment and it was quite packed with a line, however service went pretty fast. From the traditional chocolate and vanilla to Americas colors, and Salted Carmel, lots to choose from shakes, bowls and a banana split. I had the double scoop Nutter Butter and Salted Carmel and the misses had a Brownie Sundae. If you're in Galveston, check it out. If you're a fan of cooling off inside, you can do that to to enjoy the ambiance.

But GBC served the kind of bagels we were still thinking about the next day. I think it was the softness that really separated them. Said softness was easier to detect from the snickerdoodle bagels we ordered with strawberry and honey butter cream cheese. Both were no doubt 5-stars. But for my "main course" was the Pelican Island, which was a hodgepodge of deliciousness all crammed betwixt two blueberry bagels. I really enjoyed it, but if I returned for a second visit, I would order something else only because there were like ten other things I wanted to try. By the way, I also enjoyed stealing a few bites of my wife's ham, egg and cheese bagel. Earlier I said "if I returned for a second visit", and I'd like to correct the record. We will 100% be returning for a second visit. We might even go as far as a visit here being an excuse for why we need to come back to Galveston a few months from now.

I placed an online order for pickup, but when I arrived, I was told my order had already been picked up. Since I hadn't requested delivery, that obviously wasn't possible. Thankfully, a very kind employee at the other counter took the time to verify my order and got everything sorted out. What stood out to me was that I wasn't the only customer dealing with this issue. There were several people waiting on orders that had apparently already been picked up. It seems like the pickup process could use some improvements. I think adding clearer signage to direct guests and having one employee dedicated to managing the pickup area and traffic flow would make a huge difference. I also think staff should verify pickup orders with a confirmation code or order number before handing them out. I also paid extra for cold foam on my coffee, but I was simply told they were out. I wasn't offered a refund or a substitute. It's a small detail, but if customers are paying for an add-on, they should either receive it or be given another option. Overall, the bagels are excellent and absolutely the reason I'll come back. The staff was friendly despite how busy they were, but the pickup process and communication around unavailable items could definitely be improved to match the quality of the food.

This property is a remodeled motel that has been transformed into a really charming boutique hotel. They did an incredible job with the design and atmosphere. It feels trendy, relaxed, and unlike anywhere else in Galveston in my opinion. We arrived Friday night and had an amazing dinner at The Fancy. On Saturday, we spent the entire day at the pool enjoying drinks and appetizers, and on Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast tacos at the bar before heading back to Houston. From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm welcome from the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Any questions we had or small issues that came up were answered and resolved right away which made the whole experience feel effortless! The service throughout our stay was great and the food and drinks were just as good. One thing we couldn't stop talking about was how comfortable the pillows were. We slept amazinggggg! We were in bed pretty early each night but we were woken up both nights by noise from neighboring rooms. It sounded like people coming in late and moving around. You can definitely hear doors opening and closing, cabinets shutting, and general hallway noise, etc. It wasn't a huge deal for me since I can usually fall back asleep easily but it's something worth mentioning for lighter sleepers. We stayed in a double queen balcony room which was spotless and had plenty of space for both of us. The balcony itself was a little awkward because it overlooks the pool area and since its a small hotel it felt like you were practically hanging out with everyone at the pool when you stepped outside. Next time I probably wouldn't pay extra for the balcony. The pool was clean, the atmosphere was great, and they played fun music all day. The only downside was drink service. Most of the time we had to go inside to order drinks ourselves. Someone did come take our order poolside once but it wasn't consistent. There was live music on the rooftop both Friday and Saturday night which was such a nice touch, especially around sunset. Parking was a little tricky because the hotel was busy when we arrived for the live music but we got lucky with a spot close by. The guy who checked us in let me know he would go out there and help me find a spot if I was not able to find one so although we didnt end up needing him, it was cool of him to offer. Overall, this hotel is so hip, cute, and unique. It honestly feels like you're not even in Texas. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and stylish place to stay in Galveston.

Positives first: 1. Great location, right across from the beach 2. Aesthetic lobby, gorgeous decor 3. Charming pool, well maintained 4. Helpful staff, very kind 5. Complimentary beach club chairs and umbrellas - really a dynamic differentiator! 6. AMAZING rooftop bar with ocean view and incredible live music - truly the savior of stars for this review.... Now onto the negatives: 1. The entire lobby smells very strongly of dog pee. To the point where I walked in and went "woof! is there a dog in here?". Sure enough, there is an adorable old man doggy (that perhaps belongs to the owner?) that resides in the lobby. Really a fun idea IF he is let out to urinate!! Unfortunately there was yellow dog pee stains under the stairs, and the scent was unmistakable. Immediately turned me off on first impression. 2. A number of the provided bath towels were threadbare and stained. Again, an easy to solve issue, so baffling that towels that are thin and fraying at the edges and streaked are still in the laundry rotation. 3. SMOKE ALARM BATTERY WENT OFF AT 4AM. Luckily front desk staff was extremely responsive and resolved the issue in ten minutes. I asked why the hotel didn't change batteries a month before expiration date like most hotels do to avoid the battery dying in the middle of a guests stay, and was informed it must not be something the new owners were aware of. 4. The A.C. units can not keep up with the Texas heat / coastal humidity. The room temp, per the unit, did not go below 80*F all weekend despite being set to 70. To be fair, it felt more like 76*F, but that's still fairly warm to sleep in my opinion! Asked staff about it, and was told "yeah, we always have AC issues, the new units can't keep up..." so something they're aware of. 5. Parking lot is not enforced. That means anyone can use the Lucine parking lot for beach access, and actual hotel guests are simply out of luck for parking. It may say "towing enforced" but excited beachgoers and front desk alike informed us they don't actually check it. It was a bit obnoxious circling forever to find parking when the hotel allegedly provides it. But not the end of the world! Again, the above items would warrant a one star review if the pool, rooftop bar, complimentary beach club chairs and umbrella, and kind staff weren't in consideration. I think these issues are FIXABLE!! And encourage owners to hop to it. But at present, the overall experience gives the vibe of a new owner with restaurant/bar experience who has taken on a vanity project with no idea how to actually run a hotel re: guest experience.

I ended up with a Sabrina on ice, avocado toast, fruity pebbles rice krispy and chocolate chunk cookie. Fair warning, everything in the pastry case looks fresh and homemade, so prepare to treat yourself. Shoutout for their emphasis on vegan and gluten-free offerings. Visually the avocado toast had me worried, but everything bagel seasoning has a way of curing all wrongs, if those "wrongs" in question are bland food. I found myself happily gobbling it down after a few initially hesitant bites. The rice krispy was fine, and I'm looking forward to warming the cookie and reporting back. While I'll go for a more traditional coffee next time, I'll certainly be back. I'm hoping for a smile, greeting, or positive energy from the staff next go around. Fingers crossed.

I requested that they filet the Red Snappers, while the other four were left to be just cleaned (scaled, cut, and rinsed). It was well packaged. They even put ice in the bag for my long trip back. Excellent, excellent, excellent service. Next time a long with fresh fish, I will get blue crab and shrimp. Note: They are right around the corner from Katie's Seafood House.

Next to the entrance, they do have a cooler with drinks and they even sell some local honey off to the side. It's best to get it to go or you can sit at their limited counter space. My only complaint is there were no napkins.. so I had my delicious, greasy croissant with bacon, egg and cheese and no napkins.. and a sugary donut with no napkins. I made do with my Kleenex and hand sani at my desk, but it would have been better if they sent a few napkins.
