Stopped by one morning because I saw they had breakfast tacos and I wanted to try a glazed cinnamon roll since I'd never had one before. When I was standing in line, I noticed the gentleman in front of me had already ordered and was standing there talking to the lady at the counter for awhile which was kind of off putting to me because the lady saw me standing there but they continued to talk. When I went to order the taco, I was told "oh no, the grill closes at 10am". It was a little after 11 when I went. Which that's fine, but how am I to know that when there's no sign or anything saying that the grill is closed at 10?.. anyway, the cinnamon roll is delicious. I would go back for that but I hope I have an overall better experience next time. read more

After reading all the reviews of the donut shops on the island, this one seems to be one of the most popular. I have to admit this pink building stands out on the side of the road and has about a dozen or so parking spaces. Once inside, there's about Four tables to sit at and a display case filled with pastries. The folks behind the counter are quite personable and one reason this place is so popular is that their prices are surprisingly low. They do have cold drinks as well as coffee. If you want your pastry heated up, you'll have to use the microwave situated by the front window. The quality of their baked goods is very good, especially for the money which makes this place worth coming to. read more

I was on a weekend stay in Galveston, and checked out the Donut Palace in the afternoon. Oh, their croissant kolaches are just so melt in your mouth yumminess. They have mini-croissants and the large size. Glad I stopped in for their hospitality and food! read more

First off - I'm not a resident of Galveston and we were rapping up a weekend there. I walked in about 10am on Sunday morning. We had driven by the building the night before and I had a feeling this place would be good. I try to eat healthy as possible but about three times a year I start to hankering for a good donut - and boy was I rewarded! Just got a two simple plain glazed donuts - one for my wife and one for me. But these donuts were warm and so sweet and so soft and at least as tasty as a Krispe Kreme plain glazed donut which we all know are their best. Donut heaven! if you haven't tried them go for it. When you pull up and have trouble finding parking, there is a steady line going in and out and you have to wait in a very long line on a Sunday morning, you KNOW it's a good spot! When it comes to getting donuts, my choices are very simple. I start with glazed donuts, because if that's not satisfying enough, I probably won't be wowed by the other options. And I'm trying to find the best glazed donut ever! I tried the glazed donuts, sausage croissant and sausage biscuit. These were all okay and nothing really stood out or had me craving for more. I did enjoy how the glaze was not dripping everywhere, but I was looking for something more sweet and savory. For half a dozen glazed, one sausage croissant and one sausage biscuit my total was $10, not overpriced for the serving size. You do get your dollars worth. If i'm ever back in Galveston, I will try another donut shop before coming back to this one. There's nothing wrong, but definitely think there could be better donut shops out there. If I do come back to Donut Palace, I'll have to try some of the other yelpers recommendation. I came in around 11AM and was second in line, but started to notice a line forming right after me. This is a great place for a quick breakfast! Not only do they make delicious donuts and kolaches (regular and croissant), they also make some good ol Texas BREAKFAST TACOS!!! These tacos are delicious here and sooooo cheap. I definitely enjoy coming here and will come back again and again. Oh also- donut holes. Can't find them anywhere else in Galveston so far. read more

The best donuts anywhere! If you ever catch the donuts just out of the fryer, nice and warm, Ooey gooey from the fresh glaze, it is absolutely heavenly. This has been THE donut and kolache spot since I was in middle school and it continues to be my go to. Shipley's is great but has nothing on the Donut palace IMO. Ohhh god, these glazed donuts are from the gods. My brain makes Homer Simpson sounds when I go in here. When they are hot they are even better. I want them so much! Sadly they close the store. I want them open 24/7. But then I guess they wouldn't always be so fresh and I'd end up not always making those Homer sounds... Do'oh. Oh well.
