We drove down 7th as far as we could and then hiked our way back in. We found the "cleared" area slightly south and walked over. The cleared area was hard to walk in and there are holes everywhere- unfortunately many in the mounds too , probably some from looting. We didn't stay very long because we soon noticed ticks ALL over our pants. It was the worst experience I've ever had with ticks and I work outside for a living. Therefore, I highly recommend if you visit do it in the winter or fall as this would be better for less foliage anyways. I really hope this becomes a state park one day where it could be cleared and interpretation provided because right now its not clear what you're looking at at all and I'm an archaeologists and it was still hard to tell their shapes. We only saw conical mounds but there are supposed to be effigies of animals somewhere in that area- probably in the dense forested area farther south near 8th street. Final takes- only visit in the fall/ winter and be prepared for uneven ground with thorns etc.

Each year, we choose a different lake to stay on in central WI and we've all agreed that we need to make sure we stay close enough so we can schedule a float with Sandy Shores! This year, Mallory was the superstar who made sure we all had what we needed, including upgrading to a tube with back support (yes, please!), as well as our cooler float. She got us all loaded into the van and unloaded at the river, making sure we understood exactly where to find her for the pickup! Getting out was a breeze as well - just look for the orange markers, walk to the shore, pick up your tube and walk up to the van, where they'll take your tube from you, pack it up and load you into the van to return to your car. And a bonus - you leave your keys and ID with them when you float, so there's zero chance of losing your keys in the river! Sandy Shores is organized and streamlined to make the whole process very enjoyable - just log on to their site & reserve your time (highly recommend) and bring cash (for the float and to tip!!). The float itself takes about 2 hours, but there are a couple of sand bars that you can stop at to take a time out and chill, if you'd like. When we arrived to Sandy Shores we were quickly and rudely turned away by the cashier because we didn't have a reservation?? If this was a requirement then it needs to be said on the website that it is. Not that it's an option. We quickly found a different company to tube through down the road and had a much better experience right off the bat.

We got rained on for two holes then enjoyed a very nice course. We golfed the Lakes course. The forward tees were 5300 yards. That is long! The course was in good shape, despite all the rain. No restrictions on where golf carts could drive. The carts did not have GPS so we were looking for yardage markers most of the round. We played the round right around 4 hours. With many cancellations due to rain, we never saw another group on the course. Staff was friendly. Great experience.

The forward tees were 5200 yards which is long and it felt like it. Hard for me to get on the green in regulation. The course was in good shape. Tee boxes and greens were nice. Our foursome played in about 4 hours which was a good pace. Carts had GPS for yardage. Staff was friendly. Great experience.

Stayed a couple nights here over the summer in a condo for a little weekend golf…read more The good: Nice clubhouse bar, decent beer selection, folks working the clubouse were helpful and polite. Was able to get drinks and refills with not too much of a wait. Buffalo Wings were solid. The clubouse had a very good patio, was cool to relax out there after our round with a bourbon. Condo was nice and clean, few amenities, balconies that back up to the fairways. The replica holes were a fun challenge. There was a very nice lady who cleaned our clubs while my group finished the 18th hole. The not so good: For what you're paying for on this course, I expect a little more. Half of the ball washers were empty, none at all had towels. Water coolers on the course were entirely empty on a hot day. Greens were not very well kept, all kinds of chunks taken out of them. Beverage cart was few and far between. One of the guys who worked there had some pace-of-play comments to make to us, even though we were keeping up with and pushing the group in front of us. Overall, had a good time but at those rates, hope you make it a little more worth our while.

Our new neighbor (who is very knowledgeable about boats) suggested Edgewater Marine on county highway Z. They really turned out to be a gem! Our boat has never run better, and the people at Edgewater Marine were really pleasant to work with! When I told them that I hadn't boated on CRL since I was a child they took the time to discuss landmarks and navigation for Castle Rock Lake and cheerfully answered several other questions for us. We're very happy with the service and the information we've received from Edgewater Marine in Friendship Wisconsin!

Edgewater Marine has gone downhill. We stored our boat with them over the winter and when we…read morepicked it up it was clear that the boat was neglected. There was so much damage done and we now need to get a new cover and a new cushion. When we went in to Edgewater, we were given the run around and told they oversold their storage and had to sub contract it out and they would not take any responsibility. When we asked for who they gave our boat too, they gave us a non working number and then a number that we were told is the wrong number. When I called again, they simply want to blame us for the damage and claim the boat is just "dirty". It was clear that at least 30 gallons of water sat on the cover and was clear it was left outside all winter instead of being stored inside which is what was paid for. We have had nothing but aggravation from them since we saw the damage. We are extremely disappointed and would not recommend anyone use them unless they want their property to be destroyed and neglected.

I have golfed several courses at Brandon Dunes and, minus the ocean, there were a lot of similarities. The complex is beautiful. We walked the public trail that surrounds the course prior to golfing so we could see a few of the holes. We also ate $1 tacos at Craig's Porch for lunch which is open to the public as well. We golfed the Sand Valley course. The course is well maintained as you must walk it (no carts). We used a caddie and David was excellent. Great to chat with and provided sound advice throughout the day. Now if I could only execute consistently on his advice.... They just opened the new practice facility so we hit some balls at the range prior to our round. I have a cart ready golf bag so I had to switch out to one with legs. I golfed green silver which is listed as 5087 yards which is a good distance. There are several combo options so you really can choose a distance that is just right for you. The sand is all waste bunkers so no need to worry about club placement and raking. We played in just over 4 hours with two in our group. We waited on most holes for the group in front of us to clear. Not a lot of women on the course, if that intimidates anyone. I had a few pars so I think I held my own. Really a great experience. I hope to come back to golf the other courses.

The golf was phenomenal;…read moreclient service generally quite good; unimpressed by food/bev, and practice and locker room facilities. Read on. The golf courses are fabulous and, for lack of a better word, big. Sand Valley is the signature and is challenging, Mammoth is a bit more kind to an average golfer. The Commons is a twelve hole course and probably the easiest of the group; Sedge Valley is a par 68, also pretty forgiving. There's also 17 holes of par 3 (mostly chip/putt) that is there for fun; many folks play in bare feet. Lido is the one that most normal people can't get on...rumored to be, like Sand Valley, a real challenge. The golf is terrific. The client service -- everywhere we turned --- was also outstanding, from caddies, to starters, to rangers, to servers...clearly a client service culture. The are on-course food/bev "gimmicks" -- one dollar brats, one dollar Italian beefs, etc. The ice cream sandwich is celebrated (ad made in Iowa!). The drinks are very reasonably priced; water is complimentary. Unimpressed by the food and bev at the restaurants -- pretty predictable fare; I'd have hoped there would be some form of fine or at least finER dining available. Only so many burgers and chicken sandwiches and cheese curds and chicken wings one can have. Also had a DREADFUL service challenge at their pizza place at the Sedge Valley course -- took forever to get our apps and entrees...two of us ended up not even eating ours because we were out of time. Two points of bone disappointment. The first --- temporary -- is that the practice facility is massively too small for this size and quality of resort. I gather that's being addressed and that a new, large facility should open soon. The second came when our group went to shower after 18 holes in sweltering heat. The locker room and showers at the main lodge are embarrassingly small, not well kept up, and otherwise unworthy of a facility of this caliber and price point. Several hundred dollars for a round was ok --- but I'd have hoped for something a lot better than what was basically a YMCA gym for a place to clean up.

The complex also includes an RV campground and an Olympic style trap bunker. The range actually is in Rome Wisconsin and the community has numerous outdoor activities. These include golf (two courses at Arrowhead and the New Sand Valley), boating, fishing and water sports on Lake Arrowhead, Sherwood, Camelot, and Petenwell. Hunting, camping, ATV trails, hiking trails, snowmobiling, and more. Rome Wisconsin is just 40 miles north of the Wisconsin Dells.
