My bf and I were going to be in San Diego for a weekend so I looked up stuff to do on groupon and found this. So glad I bought it. Our deal came with a bottle of wine and appetizers for a 90 minute tour on a boat. The boat is like a sail boat that fits 6 people. You can reserve your own boat but I think there's an extra fee for that. You can also purchase more wine if needed. The appetizers were great. It was a tray of cheese, meat, crackers and grapes. Perfect! It was such a great and relaxing experience. Tony, our captain was very friendly and very knowledgeable. A couple questions were thrown at him here and there and he always had an answer. I would like to come back again and maybe do the sunset cruise with the fondue. How romantic right?
This excusrion wasd an absolute BLAST. Our hostess secured a Groupon for their San Diego service, and we had such a great time. We arrived a few minutes early, and were greeted promptly by our Captain who encouiraged us to use the rest rooms at the harbor before boarding. We were given a charcuterie and champagne, and we brought along some extra bottles for our party of 6 and a few snacks with no problems. We had a wonderful harbor cruise in calm waters with a skilled Captain. I would definitely go on this cruise again.
We had a lovely time for our girls day on the water! It was hot and there's no shade on the boat so bring and hat and sunscreen. Wine a little pricey so bring your own if possible Cap'n Tony was great so ask for him for your cruise!
This was a fun afternoon. We booked our cruise through travelzoo. I'd use the bathroom before you get there because you have to have a key to unlock it, which they're very kind about but just a heads up. We took off promptly with Captain Spence. He was polite, informative, and had a nice disposition. Spence, will you be our friend?! I'd say the cruise is all about getting the boat experience. If you're like me and love being on the water whether it be kayak, paddle boat, pontoon or sail boat this will be right up your alley. We enjoyed a red and white wine. I didn't think the wines were amazing, probably universal pleasers but again it's super nice to enjoy a glass of wine with your friends and take in San Diego. The cheese and meat were good and simple- a satisfying bite to go with your wine. The grapes were.. grapes haha but good. We toured around the bay, saw some wildlife, and toured around some hotels and sights. This was my favorite experience of any during our last trip so I'd recommended it highly. On travel zoo there was an option to buy two tickets or the whole boat up to 6. Cash tips recommended. Plenty of parking at the marina Captain Spence was very cool and I'd book this again. Wear sunscreen and probably a hat if you burn easily. iPad available for playing music. We just left it on the 70s rock that was playing. Some people call me a space cowboy. (I wish!)
We had such an awesome time! Our Captain was Tony who was awesome, very welcoming, remembered our names, very informative with the wines, awesome with the bays history, and most of all gave a us priceless memory. If your reading this Tony, Jeff says you will always be his God while he is aboard your boat. Be prepared to bring a warm jacket because the bay has a very cool breeze. Ponytail or hair clip for the hair, sunglasses and sunblock depending on what time you go. We will definitely be coming back with out of town friends/family when they come visit ! Thanks Captain Tony and crew!
My husband and I were extremely excited for this experience upon reading all of the wonderful reviews! We scheduled our trip for 2/25, a Sunday, because it was the day before our wedding anniversary and we both work during the week. We truly enjoyed our time on the water. It was a beautiful day, we were able to see some seals sunbathing, and the wine was quite good and not nearly as expensive as we expected. I would have given a 5 star review if not for how the trip ended. We purchased another bottle, so upon returning to the dock our captain, Tony, was taking payment. He asked if gratuity was going to be on the card, and I said no because we were going to tip in cash. My job also calls for gratuity, and I always prefer receiving and giving cash over a card. As my husband was finishing signing, I opened my wallet and realized that I had forgotten we used our cash on lunch. There were signs on the table stating the requested gratuity rates, so I knew what I had in cash was not acceptable. I handed Tony the $12 I had and began saying, "I'm so sorry, I thought I had more cash...." but before I could finish what I was saying, he snatched the cash out of my hand and his entire demeanor changed towards us. It was such a startling difference, even one of the other couples talked to us about it after we had left the dock. I was going to tell him that I was going to purchase a bottle to take home so I could tip on the card, but I'm glad I didn't. We were very offended and blown away by his attitude towards us as we left. We were highly disappointed in this. Another small, but less severe negative was the Groupon we purchased said that we would be enjoying fondue, but we were served small plates of a few slices of cheese, meat, and grapes.
I don't often yelp review activities, mainly restaurants, but I'm more than happy to share my experiences about this amazing boat ride. We arrived and were treated by Spencer. He led us down to the boat which was a nice and straight forward sail boat with some benches on the top. It doesn't sound like much, and it's quite simple, but perfect for what this is. We upgraded to a full bottle of wine, which lasted perfectly for the trip between me and my wife. It helped that Spencer was a sommelier although his talents never really got explored as we picked a wine and drank it. His pouring skills were obvious though and of a high quality. We were provided cheese, salami, and crackers which was a nice touch. It would have been good to have some more unique cheeses such as blue or parmesan, although I'm sure they catered mostly to people who like mild flavoured cheese, which is understandable. Overall this was a massively enjoyable experience. It was extremely relaxing and Spencer was an ideal host and Captain. He provided an amazing wealth of knowledge which never seemed overbearing or intrusive. Hope to be back one day.
This unique experience is something you must do at least once, and you will repeat it!! It was an intimate and relaxing 90-minute boat trip accompanied with wine and some appetizers (Salami, cheese, grapes and crackers). Several options for the wine: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Champaign...) in a 375ml size included in the price of the cruise. But if you are still thirsty, you can purchase an extra regular size bottle for about $14 (depending on what type of wine). More than convenient! Capitan Tony was super nice. He even waited for us for 15 minutes, since we got stuck in traffic, and he honored the whole 90-minute cruise. During the trip, he came to us few times to gave us some touristic and historic tips about the bay and recommended us restaurants around for lunch, dinner and brunch. I totally recommend their cruises and we'll very likely repeat the experience.
I had the pleasure of having a beautiful sunset ride with my bf, a lovely couple that were from out of town and our super awesome captain MIKE! Once we arrived, there was a sign that said to wait for your captain. A few moments after arriving our captain Mike greeted us with a warm welcome, he asked if we needed to use the restroom or needed anything before we set sail. He introduced us to the second couple that would be joining us. Mike instructed us every step of the way. How to get onto the boat, where to hold on too and so forth. Mike was so funny he made us laugh with his stories and also taught us a bit about sailing. Let me just say that the evening was perfect, it was a chilly San Diego evening, but the sunset was stunning. I had such a great time sailing around the San Diego Bay, drinking wine, eating cheese with crackers and green grapes. Everyone should experience ship n a bottle. Whether it's for a date night, a birthday, or an anniversary. I will definitely be doing this again, I highly recommend.
The Captain was very nice and knowledgeable about the Mission Bay area. A couple of times I kinda wished he wasn't going over every single detail like he did, as it would have been nice to chat with my friend and would have been rude to talk over him. The wine was good but it was a small pour, and the cheese plate was pretty just cheese slices from Costco. Being on the ship with a small intimate group but only knowing my friend was a bit awkward as well; We felt like we couldn't be ourselves because we were in such close proximity to other strangers. The whole thing was a bit sub par and I would not recommend it for the price, which was even expensive with a Groupon.
I purchased the Groupon for Ship 'N a Bottle. Reserving and booking my trip was easy. The ship fits 6 couples, my boyfriend and I had a unique experience where both other couples rescheduled, so we had the entire cruise to ourselves as well as their cheese platters. Our Captain was very nice, I wish I could remember his name, he was very personable. I would have liked for the extra bottles of wine prices to be posted or available on a menu, but aside from this I really enjoyed the entire experience and would consider doing it again.
Would definitely recommend. Me and 5 girlfriends went on this after finding on Groupon. The captain Steve was very nice, made sure we had a good time and shared funny jokes. We saw seahorses and learned about new places in San Diego. It was really relaxing and would do again.
One of the best experiences!! Definitely recommend it for couples, family, and friends. Captain Spencer is the best! He recommended places to visit around the area and that was great as well. Nice breeze, great view, and a wine will make your day memorable.

Great concept! Had a wonderful time with Captain Mike and the other couple we were on the water with. For only being in town a month, Mike sure knew his stuff! He was a wonderful host, offered to take multiple pictures of us before and during the cruise. We got to see some sea lions up close and personal. The wine was good. There were a few different choices, the cheese, salami with crackers and grapes were also very nice and fresh. A great way to spend a nice afternoon on the water. Thanks for the great kick off to the weekend! read more
Spence was our captain. He was pretty awesome! Took as many pictures as we wanted. Provided sunscreen. Thank goodness since we just ran out hours earlier at the beach. The boat ride was so relaxing and nice. We passed by some sea lions. Spence told us some facts that I barely remember now. He also pointed out good hang out spots for sunsets or late night outings. We got a few cheese fruit plates along with 2 bottles of wine. The spread was cute. Didn't do too well in July heat. But Spence brought it out a couple at a time and kept the rest in the fridge until we were ready for more. The wine was also kept out of the blaring sun. So it tasted great! The boat can fit 6 people. We rented out the boat for the four of us so we didn't get a random couple cruising with us. We rode by engine, not by sail. I wish we could have seen a bit of sailing in action. But I'm sure it causes more of a liability, especially if the passengers are drinking. Overall, I would repeat this again. The price wasn't crazy ridiculous as I have seen. Service was nice and so was our captain. read more
I bought a Groupon deal for 6 for my boyfriend's birthday gift and we had a blast! The directions were easy to follow once you see 'Aqua Adventures Kayak Rental.' The dock is literally just there. It wasn't hard to find the "black flag" that says "Ship n a Bottle." At the dock, we were greeted by Captain Tony. He was very welcoming and friendly. He sat us down and started us with a bottle of champagne before we sailed. We got a plate of appetizer and two bottles (red wine, white wine, and champagne are the choices). As we sailed, it was just wonderful! The weather was great! Sun was shining and it was breezy. Captain Tony told us some history of a few places in the bay and even after living in San Diego for more than a decade, I didn't even know them. He was a good host! He will also make you feel safe. We ended up getting a third wine! I will do this again and I highly recommend! Get the whole boat with six friends! Get that groupon deal! read more

This was the highlight of my little weekend getaway in San Diego with my best friend. Captain Steve was very cordial and entertaining. 90 minute is the perfect amount of time for a boat ride and the water in the bay is very calm and very comfortable for casual cruising. One bottle of wine, and a simple dish with cheese, crackers and salami is provided. Captain Steve made sure we were all comfortable by giving us blankets and periodically refill our wine glasses for us. If you time your cruise around sunset you can even see the sunset. Overall I think this is great for friends or lovers to enjoy! I highly recommend this experience. read more

My family and I (six people) spent Easter Sunday with Captain Spence in Mission Bay. Along with a couple bottles of wine and a cheese/cracker platter, Captain Spence provided an informative and fun tour of the bay. Captain Spence was very personable while also being respectful of our family time. The weather was perfect, the ride was smooth and I couldn't ask for a better way to spend the afternoon. I would highly recommend Ship 'N a Bottle to everyone! read more

Me and my boyfriend came here on Saturday at the 2:30-4 p.m. slot and Captain Tony took care of us! We got blessed with a beautiful day in January and the water was filled with people doing activities (kayaking, paddleboarding, kite surfing, etc). We got a cheese platter and shared conversation over a bottle of the Michelle Champagne. Overall, Captain Tony was an awesome host who brought personality to the experience. On a beautiful day it's the perfect activity to spend with your special someone. It would also be a great experience to spend with family! read more

What a wonderful evening!!! My fiancé surprised me with a ship n bottle cruise for the first time back in February and it was so incredible we immediately bought another one! Our first cruise we had captain Tony and he was incredible! Super friendly and a good time. Tonight we had captain Steve. Equally great! Extremely friendly and attentive. We upgraded our bottle of wine both times. It comes with a half bottle of wine per couple, but you can upgrade to a full bottle of Raymond Cabernet for about $12-$14 more. Definitely worth it! I haven't done the day cruise but I can't recommend the sunset cruise enough. The views are stunning and the bay is very peaceful and relaxing. Oh and definitely check groupon! We purchased both of ours on there and it's a great deal! read more

Sail away...sail away... sail away :) Well, I came across this when I was on Groupon. Was looking for something casual and romantic to do with my boyfriend $50 for a $155 value.Totally worth it! Went on the 3:15 cruise this past Saturday When I first booked, I had a few questions and Matt was very helpful and called me right back. The directions they send you on the email are very detailed, however, we ended up getting a little lost. But no fret, Spence called me and walked us through how to find it. (Can be somewhat tricky) Parking is free and plenty of it. We were greeted at gate warmly. We stepped on the little sailboat and started to spark up conversation with the other 2 couples (all whom were pleasant). I ended up getting a bottle of chardonnay on top of what we got, it was delicious. They give you a plate of tasty crackers, cheeses, salami and grapes. All paired well with the wine. I ended up then getting another bottle and it only came out to $22 for the 2 bottles. They take cash or CC on board. The benches have comfy pillows and you are close enough to the others where it is just intimate enough. Captain Spence was very friendly and gave us tidbits on some of the surroundings.:). He played Frank Sinatra at my request on their speaker. It was relaxing and a beautiful day. Time goes by not too quick and it cool to see the kayakers, ships and others on the water. I absolutely will return and do the sunset cruise. A nice little experience for sure. Can't go wrong with anything on the water. read more

Captain Tony; phenomenal! Beautiful evening. Gorgeous skies. Tasty wine. Fresh Fruits. Chocolate fondue! What else could I ask for?! My group (4 gals) took the sunset cruise on a perfect Friday evening. We arrived early and the location was easy to find; parking was a breeze. Tony recommended that we use the bathroom beforehand and he escorted us to the facilities. Not too long after we boarded the boat and we were listening to our safety brief. Tony made sure we all were comfortable before pulling out the dock. Tony gave us a history of the bay and what exactly we were looking at as we passed each bridge/location. Our group decided on a bottle of white wine followed by champagne. The weather was perfect with a light breeze along with calm waters. The sunset was gorgeous and to top it off, we passed some seals! Talk about a memorable evening. read more

My friends and I took a cruise with Captain Steve on 5/11/19, and we had a blast. The boat is not huge, but fits 4-6 guests comfortably. We had the choice of sparking, moscato, a dry white or red wine. We chose the Merlot and it was quite good. Remember it's not a fine wine tasting with gourmet cheeses, but we enjoyed the wine and cheese plate that included salami, crackers, and grapes. Captain Steve cruised us throughout Mission Bay pointing out the sights. We felt very safe at all times, and I think a family with kids would like this too. It was very relaxing and intimate. I suggest going with a small group of people you know. We went at sunset. We thought Captain Steve was very funny and thoroughly enjoyed our time on the boat. I highly recommend this excursion, and hope to go again! read more

There's lots to like about Ship 'N a Bottle, but also certain things you should know before signing up. Let start with the negatives: 1. It's a rather small boat 2. They won't necessarily be prompt 3. The cheese selections are pretty bad for a self-advertised "wine and cheese" cruise. Its pre-sliced deli cheese from a package, Vons-style. Crackers that are again straight up Vons. And... goldfish crackers. See what you did here. Ha. 4. Wine selections are mediocre. 5. Music kept stopping and we (customers) were responsible to get it going again. 6. You are pressed fairly hard for a tip. It's mentioned at least twice during the trip out loud and is printed and pointed to before and after the cruise. They say that their captains work "only for tips" on the sign... hm, that's a bit of an odd thing to say. 7. Included in the price is one glass of wine. The rest of the options are upsold during the trip (bigger bottle, better wine, etc). 8. It's super awkward to attempt this if you're not going as a couple. Positives: 1. It's extraordinarily beautiful out there on the water. 2. With the route they take inside the bay, the water is very calm and the ride is extremely pleasant. 3. If you get the Groupon and pay 50% off, it's good value. 4. Everyone I was there with (other customers) were very nice and polite. 5. Great date idea! 6. Felt like a good amount of time being out there on the water. Didn't feel they skimped on time. 7. Safety was emphasized. 8. In the spring and summer, around sunset the weather is warm and beautiful. 9. The engine is quiet. 10. Easy free parking nearby. This was a good experience, but if you are money-conscious I wouldn't recommend it unless it's at the discounted Groupon rate. read more

This was such a fantastic way to spend an afternoon out in the Bay with our friends. We received our confirmation email and reminders right on time to help us prepare. Everything was outlined so well and we had no problem finding the boat and getting ready to set sail! I can't say enough great things about Captain Spence. He was friendly, knowledgeable and super attentive to our group. I really appreciated that he was there and consistently made an effort to check on us and made sure we had pictures to remember the day. Our snacks were great and it was easy and affordable to buy additional wine/champagne as needed. I would do this again for any special occasion or just to get away for a little bit and enjoy the water, sun, wine and fun with good friends. He even worked with me to make a special request happen so I could have flowers waiting on the boat for my girlfriend. I 100% endorse this trip. Had a great time and would do it again! Had a great time for my birthday cruise with Steve and my girlfriends. The 3:30 pm cruise in San Diego after the time change was beautiful with the sunset! Saw the sea lions too! read more
