Our group of 6 did an early bird special with a 2 hour tour . It was such a great idea .the early bird special was well worth it . 1 hr wouldn't have been enough time to truly see the sights . I thought the demonstration was overwhelming and I would I loved some time to practice before getting out there . But my husband drove so that made it a non issue . The workers were kind , helpful and fun even took our photos. I would recommend if you run cold , wear sunglasses . put a blanket on your lap, wear a jacket and my husband would recommend wearing gloves when driving .There was a missing cup holder in our car so we needed to stuff our water near the back. There is a trunk which was nice and you can unplug the cars gps if you want to stop and walk around but our gps had a hard time reconnecting but when we called they were able to walk us through . The gps was a little delayed sometimes . But those cookies that were listed on the route from uncle Bill's killer cookies was amazing . Mine were fresher from the oven so would def recommend them. read more

We did not expect much from a mini go car with speaker as a tour guide but navigating and following the way was actually half the fun (especially when you get somewhat lost and misses a turn). The teasing and rage you give the driver is GOLD COMEDY! The guy, (sorry i forgot his name) actually hooked us up with the 2 hr tour and we actually thought we would enjoy the 3 hr tour next time! It really gives you a very good perspective of the city and another way to see everything without actually going to each place! This was the highlight of our trip! My friends and I had a great time driving our go cars around the city as part of our Land & Sea: GoCar Tour and Speed Boat Adventure package. The package gave us the flexibility to split up the experiences between two days, and it was a nice change in speed from the speed boat the day before. Service was excellent and well deserving of five stars. The guy helping us was very accommodating and upgraded us to more spacious go cars for the bigger guys in our group. The go cars come with a narrated tour and take you by many of San Diego's top attractions including by not limited to Little Italy, Gaslamp District, and Balboa Park. We had a little bit of technical difficulties with restarting one of the cars after making a pit stop, and service was able to support us remotely with restarting. We were worried about being over time, but the guy was very chill and made our experience very enjoyable and stress free. Pro tip: bring a speaker to enjoy your own music while zipping through town! read more

Took hubby here for Father's Day and he had a blast! We rented the tandem electric "GoCars". Mainly because one reviewer said you don't need helmets for those and this was true. What you need to know: Parking/location: finding it was pretty easy. The storefront is on 3918 Main Street. You enter on the side. There is no lot for parking, but there is plenty of close public parking in the area. It's near old town San Diego. I don't think we paid more than $10 for 2 hours, but if you get there early enough you may even find free street parking. Facility: There is a bathroom inside. They give you a short tutorial then a video to watch, then they do a live demo once you get in the cars. Trust me, someone like me needed it all! The cars: The car was so fun and felt safe. Those things go super fast, I think the guy said up to 80mpr. It's pretty easy to use and steers like a motorcycle or a quad. We went across the Coronado bridge going just as fast as some cars! GPS: There is a GPS activated voice tour that tells you great facts as you drive around. If you get little off track you'll know because it will stop talking. Mine went off for a bit and I had to pull over to reset it. The tour path: The path takes you from old town which can be a bit warm, to Coronado which can be a bit cool. Bring a light jacket, we had to stop and put our jackets on. The tour path is pretty safe even though you drive with cars and follow the same rules, people tend to be pretty respectful of them while you're driving. There was an area with some druggies but it was only one street and we passed it fairly quickly. You can also get off the GoCar if you want to but follow the same parking rules that you would for a car. The cost was not cheap but I'd do it again! We did opt for the $34 insurance b/c your car insurance doesn't cover it from what we were told. read more

We really enjoyed our GoCar tour. The little car was fun and the self guided GPS audio information about landmarks were great and in sync with the location! Kelvin was super friendly and fun. He was very busy but took care of getting us all signed in, watching safety video and on our way quickly. We did the two hour tour and spent to much time waiting in car line at Balboa Park to just get in it was Presidents' Day so very busy. I would avoid that area next time. Make sure you wear a helmet and also have a jacket with you. The cars are a bit noisy and they drive a lot like a motorcycle with all hand controls. read more

I put off writing a review because I was so traumatized by my experience with this tour. It was hard enough subjecting my precious earthly vessel to all the physical dangers, but I left with emotional damage as well- I'm talking, anger, tears, and nightmares for weeks! For one thing, these things are low, low, LOW to the ground. We almost got hit twice. In fact, they're so low that a truck pulled up next to us and I swear we could have driven under him. My friend chose the Point Loma drive- thank goodness because we did it on a Friday afternoon (read: in traffic!). The other option being, downtown. Can you imagine how difficult it was, sharing lanes with SUVs, sedans, and all other types of other vehicles?! Overall, I do not recommend this! read more

Three of us did the Coronado tour on the fat tire scooters this week. I will say right off hand that the 2 guys that got us started & also when we were done were super nice. Now for the rest...the scooters desperately NEED mirrors. The traffic you have to drive through to get to the ferry is heavy & dangerous with no mirrors. Also makes it hard to keep track of your group with no mirrors. When I mentioned this upon returning I was told "they're on order...". Right. Beware that the traffic getting to the ferry is heavy & unnerving when you can only go 20mph. The gps worked ok I guess. The problem was if we got off course due to construction or street closures it didn't redirect us, it just stopped & left us to figure out how to get back on course ourselves. The gps does suggest places to stop & browse along the way but there is literally no time to do that unless you want to miss the ferry & pay for an additional hour. We felt very rushed & don't feel like we got to enjoy the sites or experience anything except driving in traffic & whizzing past the sites in order to stay on time for the ferry. If you do this tour, plan to just miss the ferry & stay an extra hour on Coronado so you can stop & look at stuff & relax & enjoy yourself, then get on a later ferry. Given the choice I'd rather just drive the rental car & see the sites ourselves. Oh well. It was an experience. read more

So much fun! This is a fantastic way to sightsee in a thrilling adventurous way. They even had Mario Kart costumes which totally put the cherry on top of this adventure. One thing to keep in mind is the time of day you take your tour bc traffic can slow you down a bit. My boyfriend and I took the 2 hour tour. The first HR was supposed to be for following the tour and the second HR was supposed to be cruising where we want & grabbing a bite to eat, but bc of the time of day and traffic patterns, our 1 he turned into 1.5 hrs so we just returned the car. We got the San Diego tour from Old Town to Coronado island. This was one of the best experiences while traveling. It was fun and educational. Also, the ferry portion of it made it more fun. The scooter was easy to drive and the GPS was good, although it doesn't reroute you like your phone or a car GPS, but easy to get back on track if you keep driving outside of the route. Tour included passing thru Old Town, Little Italy, sights along Harbor Dr (USS Midway, Star of India, etc), & Coronado. I love learning all the history of SD (so many things I had no idea of). The only tip I would give is wear a hat as the wind gets pretty crazy especially when driving across the Coronado bridge (that was a little scary because it's fast and you don't have any protection (although you do have a double safety belt). I'd seen these obnoxious yellow cars in San Diego and San Francisco, and thought it would be a hoot. My selfless and brave friend joined me on this little adventure and it did not disappoint! Our 1hour tour from the shop, took us down to the waterfront, through the Midway parking lot, past Seaport Village and the convention center, through GasTown and a few other parts of downtown and then back to the shop. The "storytelling" part did include some fun facts about the history of the town and some very cheesy jokes - - I very much enjoyed it. You will have maximum enjoyment if: *You have no inhibitions-people will stare and take pictures. We even had one person video us as we were stopped at an intersection. *You can put aside your fashion sense for an hour or two. The helmets you wear are not fashion forward and you are in a bright yellow car. *You go slow. The talking car is very GPS sensitive meaning if you drive past the building it's talking about too quickly it will cut off the information. Caution: We chose the 1 hour tour. We did not stop and get out at different destinations and it took us more than an 1 hour to complete the tour. Extra charges could apply if you go over your tour time. We did not experience that but it is posted in several spots. If you want to "see the sites", I suggest booking for two hours and take the one hour tour for maximum flexibility and low stress. Voice guidance was often delayed-spend time before you start driving to really familiarize yourself with the route so you can be on the right or left early enough to make turns. Have a good co-pilot for this. Your ride is a 150cc and it can feel squirrelly at first. Give yourself about 10 minutes to get used to it. Handbrakes requires intentional strength on both to stop. No suspension-thankfully the roads we were on were well-maintained but the few times that we hit a little bump it was quite jarring. Pricing: Groupon, TripAdvisor and GoCar site all had different deals. Shop around. If you're an early riser GoCar offers a tour you can pick up early and bring back at noon giving you three hours for the price of two. What to bring/leave: -Bring a sweater/layers. You are in a convertible! -Leave everything else. The "trunk" could fit a small bag on one side (think library book bag). read more

We arranged this tour before our trip to San Diego for spring break. It was me, my husband, our 16-yr-old daughter and her boyfriend. You have to be 21 or over to drive and the cars hold 2 total. I thought it would be scary with all of the "real" cars on the road, but it wasn't and other drivers were courteous. We found this as an option through the Go City pass and so glad we did. Location is in Old town San Diego and there's paid parking next store unless you can find a street spot. It's recommended to get here at least 30mins prior to your reservation time as they need to explain to you the paths to take, safety precautions, and other things. This was a really fun experience and a great way to end a girls trip. We had originally planned to do the fat tire scooters and switched to an upgraded three wheeler. The tour is by gps and takes you around the port, downtown and little Italy originally we thought we got to navigate and be on our own but it's definitely different than what we had in mind. Make sure to follow the gps especially in the downtown area as many streets are one way or can't make certain turns. Make sure you feel comfortable riding with the speed of traffic. It's 100% out of our comfort zone but was an amazing experience. Casandra's customer service is excellent, she answered all our questions and made us feel secure. We would probably give this 3.5 but since that's not an option, rounding down. We went on the 30 minute go car tour as part of the all inclusive go city San Diego pass. It leaves from a site in old town, and while the site does have a parking lot you have to pay to park there so we went for free street parking instead. There are several reasons for the lower rating--first of all, we had to pay an extra $10 for each passenger kid, even though both our kids had the all inclusive pass as well. They had even called me the day prior and asked me for their pass code and told me that I wouldn't have to pay the fee since they had passes--apparently not true. Then on top of that you should probably pay for their $20 insurance policy. They told me regular car insurance doesn't work on these cars because the go cars are considered motorcycles, so unless you have motorcycle insurance, you would not be covered. So the all inclusive go city pass still ends up costing an extra $60+ out the door. The 30 min course goes along the freeway for much of it, and on reasonably busy roads several freeway on-ramps and off ramps, so it's not super picturesque and all you see is some buildings and maybe 6 blocks of little Italy. The go cars are loud like motorcycle (in case you're sensitive to noise), and there's a reasonably strong gas smell as well. Lastly, they do provide a google map type gps system, but it's specific for their 1, 2, or 3 hour tours, so you have to ignore some of the directions and not turn when the gps tells you to, so that your tour is only 30 minutes. It's surprising they don't have one extra map setting for their 30 min tour--seems like a really small investment. A poor family from the uk people got lost because of this, and once they went off the course the gps didn't direct them back on the path so much of their tour was stressful trying to self navigate back onto the route--though both hands are required to brake and accelerate, so it was quite trying! All that being said, it was still a fun and different thing to do and most importantly the kids had fun. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. read more

My girlfriend and I did the two hour tour on scooters. It's fairly easy to drive it as we just followed the road map on the phone that they provided. Positives -very fun for anyone who has never rode a scooter before. Two hours may be too long for some. -loud speaker for directions on the GPS -cheaper through Groupon -a lot to see but varies on the driver -friendly workers -fairly quick to sign up and go Negatives -one scooter died and we had to call to get a new one. This was after pushing it up the hill which was dumb of me. -The GPS worked on both but the your guide/Blu tooth speaker wasn't working on one. I had to drive next to my gf so she can hear it. I eventually switched scooters. Overall solid experience of you're trying to do something for an hour or two. read more
