Easy way to travel from San Diego across to the Coronado Island. The ferry runs every 30 min daily from 9:30 AM, they are very punctual. Guests can choose from ample seating on the upper deck or below. Overall, it was a wonderful ferry ride! The wait was short, the trip to Coronado Island was quick, and the San Diego skyline views were incredible! Festive area for all ages. There was live music, plenty of dining options and cafés, great shopping, and beautiful beaches to enjoy! The Coronado Ferry is a nice scenic option to view the harbor and skyline.

I have taken the Coronado Ferry only twice in my life. The first time was several years ago when a group of friends took another friend for a birthday dinner in Coronado, and then we came back to enjoy the Gaslamp nightlife. The second time was just last week, when I took my husband out for his birthday dinner. I thought it would be fun to get there by ferry. The Coronado Ferry is run by Flagship Cruises and Events. There are two downtown pickup locations with their own schedules, one behind the Convention Center and one behind Broadway Pier. Both go to the adorable Coronado Ferry Landing where you can enjoy several restaurants and shops within walking distance. Last week, I found it a bit challenging to find the pickup spot behind the Convention Center, as there wasn't a full address listed on the website. It is simply listed as Fifth Avenue Pier. However, we found it in time, as I saw the sign for Flagship Cruises. Though it had been a rainy afternoon and evening, our 7:25PM pickup took place on time. We climbed aboard and chose the second level to enjoy the views of downtown and the Coronado Bridge. It was peaceful, beautiful and enjoyable... all 10 minutes of it. After all, Coronado is not at all far from downtown. My only issue is that I find $9 one way per person a bit pricey for such a short ride. However, it is fine if you don't go regularly. I also learned that for regular weekday commuter times, you may be able to qualify for a free commuter pass. All in all, it is a fun thing to do, and really would be a nice way to take out-of-town guests to enjoy Coronado.

04-23-25 and April 25th Commuter Ferry, it's free on weekdays last departures 8:10am for Broadway Pier and 8:30am for Coronado. After these hours, $9 fee each way, round trip $18. Cocina 35 opens 8 am on weekdays and 7 am on weekends if you are looking for a place to enjoy breakfast.

Tickets were so easy to purchase. the above deck outside area had a lot of seating but we chose to stand at the front. Below deck where you board was super stuffy. Probably great when it's cold but on a gorgeous sunny day stay top deck and wear sunscreen. Saw a drink vending machine but no bathroom.

The Ride was very peaceful, especially at the top. Most people sat at the bottom. Someone claimed to have seen a dolphin, but unfortunately I didn't spot one after the fact. In order to get on the boat ride, you do have to pay for tickets at the window across from the entrance. After, you do have to wait in a line. On the way back to return to San Diego, there was a worker who was very observant, watching specific people's every move. We had tickets and there was a female worker by the male who was talking to a customer who wanted to purchase tickets. As we were approaching the woman worker, the male worker left the customers mid conversation, got in front of the other worker to get our tickets as we were approaching her.. I thought it was a bit odd but yeah, that happened. Other than that, the experience of the ride was amazing.

We went on the Coronado to visit the island of Coronado. My mom has anxiety so the bridge wasn't an option for us, so we took the scenic route. I don't go on boats much, so this was a fun day trip. It takes about 30 minutes to and from the island, and there's different time increments of when the boat comes back. It's definitely a busy boat and the lines can get pretty annoying, especially with the typical large family with screaming toddlers types of tourist groups.

Great view of the skyline from the back of the boat

The Coronado Ferry is a great option for anyone wanting to see Coronado Island who maybe doesn't have access to a car. The ferry is $7 one way and tickets can be purchased online or in person. The ferry is extremely prompt and leaves exactly when it says it does so be sure to give yourself about 10 or 15 minutes of cushion time so you aren't late. I was not as wise and accidentally missed the ferry so I had to wait a whole hour for the next one to arrive! I was cutting it pretty close but I was also very confused about which area of the pier the ferry would leave from. It wasn't indicated on the tickets I purchased online or in any confirmation email I received. So when I arrived, I jumped in the first line I saw which ended up being a whale watching tour - not the ferry! Whoopsie. By this point, it was about 3 minutes past the hour and when I asked the information desk where the ferry is boarding, she said it had already left. Womp womp womp.... So for those who might be a little confused, the ferry leaves from gate 2 on broadway pier. Gate 2! If you see any other line, it's not for the ferry you probably want to get on. All confusion aside, the ferry is a super convenient and reliable option to get to Coronado. The ride itself is very peaceful and gives a great view of the San Diego skyline. Don't forget to bring your jacket, some sunglasses, and mask up!

This was so much fun if you are exploring the port. I highly recommend taking the time do this, for the small amount they ask, you get your bang for your buck. It's nice to be able to watch it all and see the big San Diego bridge up close!

Great commuter transportation in the morning for working professionals. Beautiful city views and great time to absorb some vitamin D before heading into and leaving the office. Ferry is excellent for visitors who don't want to drive and visit the island. So fun!

We paid $14 for 2 tickets to take the ferry from Coronado Island to San Diego in the evening. Turned out to be a little mini sunset cruise as the sun was setting when we went. Stunning views of the city and waters. Really easy and convenient to use. Would take ferry again next time we are back in town.

Beautiful ferry ride over to the island. It's $7 so $14 round trip. It leaves every hour. It goes nice and slow so you can sit back and take in the views. Very affordable! Can't wait to go on this again!

Great deal to take the ferry ! For us it was helpful to get to Coronado without a car. We love ferry rides for the fresh air, relaxing travel and beautiful views over the water. The price is reasonable $7/person and you can get a one-way or round trip ticket. It runs regularly (at the top of the hour from Broadway Pier and on the half hour from the Convention Center & Coronado Ferry Landing) 9:00am-9:00pm daily and extended commuter hours M-F. It's a quick trip of about 15 minutes.

This ferry service is fantastic. Being a local resident downtown in a city I don't have a car and really appreciate the ferry service. The ferry is only $5 each way, a conveniently short ride to Coronado, and an absolutely beautiful and lovely ride. Honestly, most of the time I hop on the ferry just for the thrill of the ride and to see the beautiful views. The staff on the boat is always very respectful and friendly. Before the pandemic I can recall the staff Assisting couples and tourists with their photos. So sweet! There's two ferry stops downtown one by the cruise ships and the one by the convention center. Both equally as great and easy to use. I enjoy the journey to Coronado. There's lots of adorable stores like clothing boutiques, gift shops, restaurants, coffee spots and more. Totally worth it and I love the ferry!

    Nice and smooth short ride!

You aren't just looking at history -- you're surrounded by ships that actually survived it. The Star of India, launched in 1863, survived mutiny, violent storms, collisions at sea, and decades carrying immigrants across dangerous oceans. Some sailors believed the ship was cursed after captains died during early voyages, yet somehow she survived long enough to become the oldest active sailing ship in the world. HMS Surprise shows the brutal reality of naval warfare during the Age of Sail. Ships like this once carried enough cannon firepower to destroy enemy vessels while sailors lived packed below deck surrounded by gunpowder, disease, and fear of battle. The Berkeley steam ferry even helped evacuate survivors during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake while much of the city burned. One of the most fascinating exhibits is the Soviet B-39 submarine from the Cold War. The inside is unbelievably cramped and gives you a real sense of what life was like beneath the ocean during one of the most dangerous periods in modern history. The USS Dolphin may have been my favorite. This experimental deep-diving U.S. Navy submarine helped test advanced underwater technology and launched the deepest-fired torpedo in naval history. The museum also includes the San Salvador, recreating the ship that explored California's coastline in 1542 -- long before America existed as a country. What makes this place incredible is the timeline it creates: 1500s exploration... 1800s global sailing... steam-powered industry... world wars... Cold War submarines... All sitting together in one harbor. This place doesn't just teach maritime history -- it shows how ships shaped exploration, immigration, trade, warfare, and entire empires.

The Santa Fe Depot was built by the bygone railroad of that name. I'm old enough to remember the advertising slogan "Ship and travel Santa Fe--all the way!" This is one of relatively few major railway stations that have both been preserved largely in their original form, and continue to serve rail passengers. It is a beautiful Mission-style building from the early 20th Century, and will give you a feel for what rail travel was like in its heyday. Gorgeous tile work and some nice landscaping make this a great place to wait for a train. (Search "Santa Fe Depot (San Diego)" on Wikipedia for more on its history and architecture.) For Amtrak passengers, this is a staffed station with ticketing and checked baggage services. Amtrak staff are courteous and helpful. The waiting room is large and has plenty of old-style bench seating. There is a designated waiting area for seniors and people with disabilities needing assistance in boarding. There are restrooms, but Amtrak often has difficulty in keeping unhoused people from making a mess or using the facilities for things other than immediate relief. So at times, not everyone will find them comfortable to use. In addition to the Trolley, the Santa Fe Depot is also served by several MTS bus lines. There is a paid parking lot run by a third-party provider. No free parking nearby. There is a small kiosk--the Silver Streak Cafe--selling food and drink. See my separate review.
