Shimmy's has repaired many items for me, and I Believe she is the best Alterations business in our area.

She was communicative and considerate throughout the process, and she is a joy to collaborate with. Due to the condemnation of the building she previously rented, she is (as of April 2025) operating out of Zuha Trend's menswear storefront on Loockerman, which comes with some limitations. Ms. Gloria was so very thoughtful in her navigation of this situation, including rescheduling one of my fittings to afford us more privacy from Zuha's male clientele. The gentlemen who operate Zuha Trend are also 'top notch.' Each time I came in, they greeted me and ensured I was taken care of. Top Notch is a business based in the community. You will see folks greet Ms. Gloria and one another, joke together, and share life updates. Some of this will happen during your appointment. It's wonderful. If you want a more sterile, buttoned-up experience for your formal alterations, try driving farther and paying more at David's Bridal. My dress was the center of attention at my reception, and my bridal party and I were comfortable, secure, and stunning all night long, thanks to the hard work and expertise of Ms. Gloria at Top Notch.

I will never return to this shop and caution you to think twice before taking anything in to have…read moreit altered or repaired. After two months of leaving blouses to have the elastic redone in the neckline and sleeves of two peasant blouses, they still were not done. When I asked to take my blouses back, Gloria, the shop owner, asked if I would come back a couple of hours later. I should have listened to my intuition and just taken my blouses back. But I thought she'd done a nice job with hemming my pants, I would leave my blouses and come back. ...Wrong choice: Gloria did slipshod work and massacred the necklines. Thank goodness she forgot about the sleeves! Now I have to pick out the stitching which will take at least a good hour before I take the blouses to another tailor to have the necklines fixed. Previously, she had hemmed some pants for me, and done a great job, although the work again was not done in the timeframe I was given. But the pricing was reasonable and the work was good. So I was hopeful that she would do as nice a job with my blouses, and I even had brought two more blouses that needed slight alteration (she'd had these for one month). ...All I can say is that Gloria did a rushed, unprofessional, slipshod job with those as well, and not only do I feel disrespected as a customer, I feel disrespected as a person. I left three messages, one of which I left in person and I know she received the message because she referenced it, and Gloria did not have the decency to call me to let me know if my blouses were ready or not. I know how to sew myself, but have had eye/vision issues, and working on black fabric isn't something I can do anymore, so I needed to take my slacks and two of the blouses to someone who could do the necessary repairs on them; as for my peasant blouses, I was hoping a "professional" could do a better job than I could, so I didn't mind paying to have the work done. ...So, I'm not completely unknowledgeable when it comes to sewing, and I know when something is subpar. ...It gives me no pleasure to write such a negative review because I strongly believe in supporting local-owned small businesses. I read reviews for Top Notch before deciding to bring my clothes in for repair/alteration. I am now adding my experience as a customer to other customers' opinions for you to read and make your own determination. My mother used to say "you get what you pay for." While I don't necessarily believe that this is completely true, in the case of Top Notch, it is unfortunately true. If you want to ensure you and your clothing are treated with respect and properly, go somewhere else--don't go to Top Notch.
