Got the top package but feel let down. The pros: The resume was restructured and written in a professional fashion. The cons: - I had to follow up on everything before getting responses. This wasted a lot of time in submitting tailored resumes. - His approach is a blackbox, there is no discussion on the resume elements. So you don't know if the purpose is being served. - My profession being very technical, Paul's fine verbiage made it look good, but did not get me interviews. - LinkedIn details he provided was pretty much the resume verbatim and my questioning that did not get me a response - Cover letter felt very generic as well. Mojo could be added only if candidate reads the company/position and adds his reason to be there. Overall I felt the resume writing could have been used at a fourth of the price. Overall not bad, but I would not recommend Paul for a technical executive resume. I had very specific objectives in terms of repositioning myself into a more technical development role, and already had a resume with most of the facts. What came out made me look like a CIO. It just didn't work. Even though Paul touts his background with McKinsey, I am not sure he really understands the Silicon Valley technical job market. He took out way too many facts and in the end it looked like a cookie-cutter template resume. I also did not like the process where instead of a conversation of my career objectives, he just went through a list of prepared questions. I did not walk away with a positive feeling that he understood who I was, and the resume looked accordingly. I used a total of 3 resume writers, and would place Paul in the middle, but way below the service that in the end got me the results I was looking for. In fairness, the best service cost twice as much as what Paul charged. Can't say that I'm totally dissatisfied with Paul's resume, but it just wasn't me. read more

Overdue review, just realized it never got posted. Did I get what I paid for? Probably. Did I get more than other services that were priced lower? Probably. Was I fully satisfied? Not completely but certainly satisfied enough to recommend the base and mid-level services. Did I get the job? No, didn't even get the interview but it wasn't related to me or Shimmering. Positive -Quick turnaround time, 1 week to get initial draft, 2 weeks to get final version out -Quick response time, I got a response the day after I submit my query and Paul and Tiffany responded quickly to all queries -Liked the overall format, I am not that creative with fonts -Offered weekend help -In person meeting option Neutral -Felt like it took a lot of editing on my part, took several iterations -Feedback from reviewers on my end questioned some of the style like having periods on bullet points and paragraphs made up of bullet points. -Cover letter felt overly verbose, didn't end up using much of it -Cover letter felt form-letter'ish, I gave a specific job and expected a specific cover letter, but maybe my expectations were off? -When I asked to talk because I had questions Paul was almost always unavailable, but that is a high expectation hence neutral feedback -Felt kind of "old school", didn't feel very exciting to read -Linkedin part was really just copy/paste of the resume and some standard tips Cons -Some spelling/grammar mistakes in the initial draft -Felt unoriginal in some areas, duplicate descriptions and cookie cutter "negotiated profitable deals" -A bit old school using Word and not being open to collaborating on Google Docs, slowed the review cycle significantly -Use of information from initial form I filled out was used improperly or in ways that didn't make sense/look ok Full disclaimer I haven't read the book or watched the videos that were included to see if they were helpful. I also suspect the "full package" with more one-on-one time may be more effective, seems like it takes awhile to "tune-in" to get everything right. It's not bad. the only thing I'd say is negative is that the resume format that Paul gives you is pretty outdated, which would probably be fine in more old school job industries like Finance or Consulting but we're based in a tech-dominated job market and most job recruiters are people in their 20s and 30s. I was also expecting Paul to have wee more background knowledge in technology, given where this service is based. I would recommend Paul to people who are really struggling with their resumes. If your resume is already decent and you're getting interviews then you're better off just using that money for a variety of cheaper services, then consolidating all their opinions into your improved resume. read more

This is overdue from 2017. Realized that somehow the one I wrote in 2018 never got posted. I employed Paul to work with my son who had just graduated from college. I was VERY disappointed in the results. You should know that I am a corporate recruiter so my comments are in that context. The resume that Paul wrote for my son over-inflated his experience. When I pointed that out to Paul, his response was that "it would at least get him an interview". This is an overdue review of my experience with Shimmering Careers late 2016 and early 2017. I purchased the Elite Professional Career Services package and I was very, very disappointed. The quality of the resume was very lacking and I didn't even bother to use their version of my resume when applying for jobs. Thank you Paul for taking the time to meet with me and review my current qualifications. Just by answering a few questions and by giving him access to my present resume Paul was able to totally revamp my resume and cover letter. It is always interesting to me to see the difference between a resume created on one's own versus that created by a professional. Looking back my resume was very wordy totaling 3 pages. Most employers do not want to see more than 2 pages, even if you have been in the job market for 10yrs plus. Paul noticed this and broke my resume down into concise highlighted points. Don't waste your time and money. After finishing Grad school my father in law paid several hundred dollars to Shimmering Resumes for resume development as a gift. Although he hadn't ever used the service he had done his research and settled on Shimmering Resumes. At first it seemed like a great service--Mr. Freiberger contacted me and we discussed what type of jobs I would be interested in and how he could tailor my resume to really shine. Several weeks went by and I finally received my resume and cover letter via email. The first thing I noticed was the amount of spelling errors, fragmented sentences, and strange punctuation. My first thought was perhaps I had mistakenly provided him faulty information, but then seeing the title of my Master's Thesis, and the names of members of my Master's committee misspelled I knew it couldn't have been on my end. After all I had just spent the last three years focusing on nothing but finishing that thing. Anyway, I tried to contact Shimmering Resumes and after hearing nothing back I just cleaned up the mistakes the best I could and moved on. And to add insult to injury I never did receive the hardcopies I had paid for. Two years pass and I had yet to land a single job, or single job interview using the resume and cover letter done by Mr. Freiberger when I decided to try and contact him again. This time I did hear back and Mr. Freiberger seemed to truly want to help out and rework the resume as it had proved less than affective. He asked me a few questions and then told me he would contact me shortly with the documents. That was four years ago and up until I received a spam email at Christmas time from Shimmering Resumes I had heard nothing. After replying to the spam asking to be removed from the mailing list and explaining why I had no interest in anything Shimmering Resumes had to say I was once again contacted by Mr. Freiberger. I am not exaggerating when I say it was nearly a identical conversation to the one we had had four years earlier. He happily said he would rework the resumes (I had long ago stopped bothering to use them and landed two jobs using simple resume templates found on line). And just like the first time that was the last I had heard from Mr. Freiberger until I decided to contact him via email and let him no just what I thought about his customer service. Once again Mr. Freiberger said he would complete the documents (despite as he put it me "insulting him" by recounting the facts). That conversation was a week ago and I have still heard nothing from Shimmering Resumes and I really do not expect to. I want to make one thing perfectly clear though--Over the course of six years I have sent out hundreds of copies of the resumes prepared by Shimmering resumes and I have not only never landed a job using them, but I have never even been asked for an interview. Don't waste your time and money with Shimmering Resumes unless you happen to have money to burn and a love of unemployment. read more
