So we flew from LAX to Buffalo, NY, which allowed us to visit Niagara Falls (stunning) and then take a quick drive south to Bradford, PA (home of Zippo lighters). The first thing one notices when entering this part of Pennsylvania is how well-kept the homes and farms are. And when you turn onto the access road to the Glendorn Lodge, you see their farm-to-table patch of a vegetable farm. Once through the gate, the drive is a couple of miles to the main lodge and check-in. The staff are so wonderful and polite, calling us by our last names, which is very formal but a nice touch! Our home, cabin, was lovely beyond description. The master bedroom was stunning, the screened-in porch was perfect for 10 to 12 people hanging out (ideal for a family reunion), and we had an outdoor fireplace/pit blazing and roasting marshmallows for the kids. The next morning, we rode bicycles that you keep at your cabin home. We went out on a small lake with paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, etc. We also played volleyball and had lunch catered and delivered to the lake - fantastic service. The next day we played tennis, swam, basketball and even shot skeet! As our time at Glendorn came to a close, we reflected on the unparalleled service and the deep sense of relaxation we experienced throughout our stay. The staff truly went above and beyond, ensuring every detail was perfect, and their personalized approach made us feel like cherished guests rather than just visitors. To cap off our trip, we took a leisurely drive back toward Buffalo, savoring the memories of Niagara Falls and our time at the resort. We left Glendorn with our spirits lifted, ready to cherish the beauty of nature and the luxury of wonderful hospitality. If you ever find yourself in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania, I highly recommend Glendorn for an unforgettable retreat. It's a hidden gem that beautifully combines nature, comfort, and top-notch service!

We went for the breakfast buffet. The restaurant is in the center of The Shiloh Resort campground. When we arrived (Saturday @ 11:00 am) there was an empty parking lot and only one other table seated. Now I was a little worried. Mid July and only one other table, what gives? I am normally the one to try and support mom and pops but I was a little apprehensive. We decided to take a chance at $6.95 it was worth a shot. And I am so glad we did. Mama Doe greeted us immediately with a warm smile. Everyone was very attentive. I loved the fact that they didn't load up the buffet pans to let items sit. Everything came out fresh. The Buffet Scrambled eggs or scrambled eggs with peppers onion cheese and tomato (and a hint of curry if I'm not mistaken), those eggs were delicious. Next sliced potato home fries with onion, perfectly browned. Thin sliced bacon (I like mine thicker, but it was ok) and savory sausage links browned to perfection). Thick sliced French toast, this was sweet with a touch of nutmeg I believe. I hope I am not giving away Mama Doe's secrets. Pancakes were light and fluffy. The biscuits were fresh and warm. The sausage gravy was ok, I prefer crumbled sausage. After breakfast, we struck up a conversation with Ray and Doe and the other patrons. Ray & Doe told us about the history of the resort. Then offered a tour of the place. It is a beautiful campground with a chapel, restaurant, main lodge, cabins, and camping areas. Right between Cook Forest State Park and Clear Creek State Park. I know we will be visiting again.

If you have a chance to talk to the owners you'll find what a sweet couple they are. Note: the restaurant is not always open Monday and Tuesday, so check hours before you go. But if you go, prepare to have a wonderful meal! It's off the beaten path, and to me, adds to the charm of Cook Forest as a whole.

This place is awesome! This is exactly what I want when I go camping, or "glamping". The location…read moreis isolated and picturesque. The cabins are extremely nice, well-stocked, and well kept. The location is amazing - you're in a somewhat small area of woods, next to a river, and at the foot of a mountain (well, very large hill). We stayed in Cabin 1 which is at the end and faced away from the other cabins so we felt very secluded which is perfect. The cabins themselves are excellent. The furniture is really nice, there is a great fire pit (with plenty of wood provided!), a jacuzzi tub, a wood burning stove, a shower, and a full kitchen which has all the cooking utensils you might need. Everything is very clean and in great condition. There is a central building on the grounds which I think is either a store or has games and stuff in it, but it was closed due to covid. There is also a path you can walk down which takes you through the woods and close to the river. We didn't see any wildlife on the grounds, but I have no doubt that elks and stuff come through here and you have a good chance of seeing them. Definitely a solid choice if you want a really nice place to stay in Elk County. A few things to note about this place: - The owner doesn't like credit card payments and charges an expensive fee if you pay with one. He prefers you send him a check instead. I sent a check and everything was fine. - You can't drive up to the cabins, there is a parking lot and then you have to walk. The cabins are in reverse order, so the closest one is 10 and the furthest from the lot is 1. There are big carts you use to transport your stuff. I thought this was cool, but something to think about if you're elderly or have issues transporting your stuff. - There is no cellphone reception here, nor in the closest town Benezette. However the cabins have WiFi which works well. - The floor of the cabins looks really nice (stones), but it's super cold and...rock-like, so you'll probably want to wear some kind of slippers or shoes. - The closest town is Benezette which is 5-10 min down the road, but it literally only has like 4 businesses and twice as many houses. There is a WalMart about 25 min away if you need supplies.

A vacation club we belong to offered this location as an option (Feb 2023) for a very good price. I…read moreknew absolutely nothing about this spot, so here are a few things I learned: Check-in: This is a gated community. People live here year round as well as 'vacation rentals'. The rental office is before the security gate, down a short road on your right. They will give you a packet of information and 'should' give you a pass to show the security guards. We did not get one, so security made us a temporary pass. Be sure to ask at the office for your security pass. VERY important to note, you can ONLY enter at the main gate. The rentals are closer to the back entrance which is not manned. Don't let GPS take you that way! Use the rental office address, (1372 Old State Hwy 255) then reroute to the townhouse once you are nearby. Accommodations: The townhouses are fifteen minutes away from the main entrance. The office did not give us an address to enter into GPS and use a very poor map to explain how to get to your accommodation. We found GPS did have the rental units listed. Save yourself a headache, look up your unit in GPS. The townhouse is an open floorplan kitchen/dining/living room, 3/4 bath, and utility closet on lower level. A deck runs across the back and over looks a golf course. The kitchen has plates, bowls, wine gasses, water glasses, a few pans, cooking utensils, a cutting board and knife. So basically enough items to prepare and eat a simple meal. You have to bring containers for left overs, cling wrap, and other 'specific' cooking items. Besides the stove and fridge, there is a dish washer, microwave, coffee pot and toaster available. Housekeeping is not offered daily. Dish detergent, dish rag, paper towels, dish towel and trash bags are available on the counter when you arrive. The sofa is a sleeper; pillows and blankets are in the utility closet, ask at reception for sheets or call ahead. The water heater may need to be turned on if the unit has been empty for a while. A vacuum, iron and board are also in this closet. The stairs are steep and narrow. Think about this when packing big, heavy luggage. Two bedrooms, one with a King size bed, one with two doubles, and a full bath are upstairs. One pillow per person. An upper deck is accessible from both bedrooms. There are NO hangers or hooks in any of the closets. Both bathrooms have many tiny bar soaps and toilet paper. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean. The living room furniture looked newer as did the flooring on the lower level. The curtains, bed spreads and carpets upstairs are older. The curtains are quite heavy and did a good job keeping the cold out. Downstairs windows have wooden blinds. You have control of the heat in your unit. We had plenty of hot water for the two of us. The unit sleeps up to eight with the sofa bed, although there is only seating for six at the table and in the living room. There were a few pieces of plastic deck furniture between the upper and lower decks. Park in front of your unit in a 'turn around' driveway shared with the neighbor unit. Services: On the coffee table is a binder full of information. Besides emergency services, phone numbers of housekeeping, reception and other services in the community are listed. Many recreational services are available summer only, so no pool swimming in winter. The office staff were friendly and helpful. We called housekeeping for additional towels and they drop off what we needed to get us through our week's stay. NOTE: they have limited business hours - Read the binder for information. The binder also includes information needed when you arrive at the property, renter responsibilities during the stay and check out procedures such as stripping the beds, taking out the trash and so on. Read that binder. In summer there are ponds on the property for swimming as well as a recreation center, golf course and activities. Contact the office for information on using these services, costs, availability and so on. There is a gas station, convenience store and gift shop open year round on the main road leading from the main gate. Location: Dubois is about thirty minutes from Punxsutawney, two hours from Pittsburgh, just over an hour from the Jimmy Stewart Museum, three quarter of an hour to the Elk Country Visitor Center where you can see and learn about elk herds in PA. Historic downtown Dubois has a variety of businesses including a day spa, Hockman Candy (PA famous chocolate shop) Luigi's Ristorante, Aegis Coffee Roasters, Scotty's donuts and the Dubois Historical Society to name a few. Due to fire, these are the oldest surviving buildings in the area and are in a designated historical district. A newer section of town includes lots of businesses like Red Lobster, Walmart, bowling, a small mall and movie theater. There is much more information needed if staying in summer and I definitely recommend you call for details. Hope my winter visit information helps.
