    The new Shilla has opened!

The new Shilla has opened in Gelderlandplein and it truly deserves 5 stars! The original one was small, but had everything you needed. Now that the new one has opened and it's 3x as big and it not only has everything you need but now also multiple options of every item. They have a wide variety of Korean and Japanese goods. They have packaged goods, fresh prepared goods, frozen foods, cooking items, silverware, serving ware, rice cookers. The store is clean, well laid out, and has good signage of what you're buying, etc. The service is very friendly and everyone there is helpful if you have questions. Being Korean and when I moved to Amsterdam four months ago I was a bit worried that I wasn't going to find a decent Asian market...but no need to worry now since the new Shilla is here! No need to go anywhere else for your Asian grocery shopping - this place has it all.

Great little shop for some key Korean ingredients. Friendly staff and easy to find things in this cozy store.

LET'S TAKE A LONG WALK…read more Wow, just realized I've shopping here for over 15 years already. How time flies! For me food has always been my #1 luxury expense. So while most students were spending their limited resources on beer and drinking binges, I went shopping at Kings. About a year ago they did a complete renovation and some shop designers feng shuid the place, making shopping here even more pleasurable. Their product range is so tempting I tell myself to not go crazy, just get what you need and get out...fast! Let me take you along a stroll through this luxury grocery store and the internal dialogue going on...... Oew Wijs & Zonen Java mocha coffee..."You hardly drink coffee, don't need coffee". Some of their Indian chai blend tea would be nice though.... Sweet, Gavottes Crepe Dantelle...."No, don't go there!" Walkers short bread cookies??...."You know what will happen, you're gonna eat them all in 1 go till you're nauseous" Kings' crown jewel # 109 Grisbi Lemon cream cookies then?? "Fine, just 1 package though and don't finish them all that same night!" Soup from the Soep Fabriek is always good to have as an emergency meal. Get some pure tomato soup ala Johannes van Dam. That Gastoria rouille will be perfect to liven up the bisque soup I got at Vis op Zuid. Kind of bland without it.... Don't even look at the lemon merengue pie or the lemon cakes at the bakery. "Keep walking, just get the necessities!" Orville Redenbachers popcorn is harmless, right? "Not if you put Ker' Amel butter salted caramel on there! Just get some plain Pur Natur bio yoghurt...and a few bags of scampi fries :) " Hey, what's that? Foie gras of the sea? Haven't seen it before, got to try it! Just recently avocado oil seems to have become the newest fad, but I have been using it for years already. Know why? Because Kings has been selling it for years! Oh, that reminds me need a new bottle of Les Huileries de la Croix Verte pistachio oil!!! Those fish cakes look tempting but are crazy expensive at €4,50 for just 2! I think I'm gonna whip some crab cakes up myself. I am gonna get me a few Lincolnshire sausages though. Ok, enough! Go to the cash register and get the f**** out of there! What's that smell? How did that bag of Java Mocha coffee get in my basket? The bill....€37 and all I got was some yoghurt, coffee and snacks and I end up still having to go to the Appie for my necessities :( To sum things up: Kings is seriously detrimental for your bank account...and waste line but good for the soul. It's more than just an expat store, it's a foodie's shopper paradise

Kingsalmarkt is a really nice place for grocery shopping in Amstelveen. They have all kinds of…read moreluxury brands and import brands. I headed here with some specific stuff in my and even though I did not find it I left this place with lots of goodies and if I had followed my stomach's advise, and not my wallet's, I would have left with much more. If you live in Amsterdam you probably would not go to this place all the time, so it is handy to come with money and maybe a car because you will probably buy lot's of stuff here. It is nearly impossible to walk through this store without spending to much money on delicious stuff (also because stuff here is pretty expensive). Even though it is a pricey store I will definitely be back for some things that are not available at my nearest Albert Heijn. Nice extra; they had Halloween themed candies! Trick or treat! Nice!

It's a filipino grocery store but it's also a catering service and they sell take away food. It's what I call "hiding in plain sight". The owner of the only other filipino store in Amsterdam referred me here. It's much closer to where I live. I love it. Why? Do you say? Well, because the owner, Gina, will cook any filipino dish you desire in the quantities you desire to take home. You can call in and preorder, go in and visit and order or buy whatever she's already got cooked. She's very friendly. As a matter of fact I'm hoping she'll adopt me and expect me for dinner regularly. Ok maybe not. So here's the deal. She told me they'd just catered a 150 person private party of which of course all the attendees were all avid filipino food lovers, filipinos, expats, internationals and dutchies. She'll cook for one or many. So I'm going to arrange a dinner for our local Yelpies. I am not going to do this often because I don't want you all to get spoiled and wear out my new source LOL. The owner does it because she loves cooking. She doesn't want the drudgery of operating and running a restaurant. How much does it cost? It's not expensive well depending on how much you want to eat.... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pinoy-Tayo-Store/436474289725247
